Coming from a first world country, with high standards of hygiene, probably not. That's certainly not too bad in terms of 'dirty India street food' though. Really, don't know what you're fishing for

did you see how he makes the food? what if he takes a leak and forgot to wash his hands or puts his finger in his ass or blow his nose, or maybe he licks his fingers to taste test the food, you don't see anything wrong with that?

I mean at least you can see what's going on it's not hidden in a kitchen. Don't see why he can't use some kind of utensil though.

I get what you're saying but you really think he's just going to start fingering his own asshole and add extra corn to the servings? From that video, all he does is serve food with his hands. That's not outrageous.

Only if I was acclimatised by living there for some weeks/months. I'm selective about street food when I travel, more just the fact of staying off the toilet when new to places. As a kid I was in Singapore for years and they're some of the tastiest vendors going, pity about what the government did there about street vendors. We dabbled in some in Thailand and Bali but overall you need to be able to identify what you're about to eat and have a decent guesstimate about the vendor/health of what you're eating. You can't just show up from first world countries on day one and think you have a stomach for local food/water/methods etc. Doesn't work that way for most people. The same goes for Mexico or elsewhere.

Dude in the video was handling money with one hand and preparing food with another, really not that different to so called hygienic nations. Pretty good service there. I've seen far worse from kids working at fast food joints and takeaways in Australia e.g. wear a glove but handle money and go right back to preparing food with the same glove over and over. Idiots. You just have to judge where you eat, anywhere you eat.

Street food is the best food but since it’s India and there’s no sanitation no. I’ve had street food in Japan China and Vietnam and it’s amazing even the bacon wrapped hot dogs in LA. But even Indians will tell you sanitation is not India’s strong suit; Chinese cities are sadly cleaner than downtown LA and SF though but not nearly as bad as India.

It could be said for every food place and restaurant in the entire world.

Everyone knows a whopper doesn’t taste nearly as good unless your chef puts a finger in his ass beforehand.

But why did you created this thread? The world is a big place. In this world some people don't have money to buy food. What so unique about this that you are drawn to. Did you realized today that there is a whole world out there with very poor people.

While I love Indian cuisine and would very much like to try "authentic", as in what the locals eat, Indian food, I would not eat that. That's also why I will probably not travel to India even though I am interested in the country and culture, the hygiene standards are not up to par with first world countries.

Curry was invented to make the taste of rotting meat

This looks exactly like that situation

I dont see much toilet paper either, so that adds to flavour as well

The idea that spices were used to cover the flavor of rotten meat is a myth. A food historian has actually tracked down this myth to a 1939 book by JC Drummond.

That's referring to medieval times. But there have been cases in modern history where sausage was used to hide rotten meat.

Isn't most food everywhere prepared with bare hands?
If a restaurant makes you a salad, do you think they put gloves on while cutting and chopping all the ingredients? They touch every single piece of lettuce, every tomato, every piece of chicken, etc.
Would you not eat something made by Gordon Ramsay?

Who gives a fuck, they're still using shit covered hands to eat
There's a reason many Asian cultures give a different status to left and right hands, you're not supposed to touch food with your left hand specifically because it's the one you use in the toilets.

8 Tips on Eating With Your Hands in Southeast Asia (theculturetrip.com)

Use only your right hand

When eating with your hands, you don’t really use both hands at all. It is best practice to ONLY use your right hand. This is because the left hand is used in the toilet! This might seem difficult at first, to only use one hand but with practice it becomes easier. If you have a large chunk of meat, you can either break off a piece or bite a bit off. Your left hand’s only purpose at the table is to grab the glass of water you might be drinking.

It's not like those cultures are unaware of hygiene, they just have different ways of dealing with it.

As for the video in OP, I have no doubt it may be just as healthy as any other food stand in the country. If I were to visit I'd be cautious as a general rule, but not specifically because of the way the guy is touching the food.

what do you mean he forgets to wash his hand? That thought would never enter his mind. It’s part of the flavor!

But i work in close contact with kitchens from many many places and if you think that your average restaurant is cleaner than that, you're a fool.

Always thanks your god of choice that you can't watch the people who make your meals.

A friend of mine once told me that he went with his family in South America and he wanted to eat some kind of chili (can't remember exactly what it was) and just before ordering his mother came telling him to not order that food because she saw that the guy that was cooking was using his whole arm for stirring the sauce.
