Wouldn't the internet suck for people who can't read or speak English?

Personally, I feel the internet must suck for you people who only read read/speak English.

Also OP, I'm sure someone in China is asking the same thing about non-Chinese speakers.

almost all of the hilarious GIFs, memes, images, and weird lingo like "Thank you based God/Nomura/whatever name, are pretty much in English or are based on media that's in English

They're sure missing out on some top grade funny shit right there.

Not really

This just occurred to me the other day. Seeing as how the majority of the people on the internet communicate in English, and almost all of the hilarious GIFs, memes, images, and weird lingo like "Thank you based God/Nomura/whatever name, are pretty much in English or are based on media that's in English, I can't help but wonder how boring and bland the internet might be for people who can't understand all of it. Does the non-english community of the internet have their own funny memes and things similar to us? I'm curious.

Internet doesn't equal memes. You're kind of naive and egocentric, grow up.

Speaking of which, I think the Internet would suck more if you were from Japan judging from the web design of their big sites, and Nico Video is an insult to the concept of a video streaming service.

OP has an interesting point though.

I bet the internet does suck for people who can't read.

All they can do is search for porn.

I've actually thought before about how much stuff I must actually be missing out on by only speaking English. I've been to Spanish suits and seen heaps of replies to threads with jajajaja and though man I am missing out on something here. Your question sounds stupid but on both sides we're all probably missing out on heaps.

this almost feels like the time someone asked me if internet is a thing in Mexico

While playing World Of Warcraft a long time ago someone on our guild chat legitimately asked why It didn't snow at Christmas here in Australia, and if we celebrated Christmas at all without the snow..

Is there a French neogaf? I want to prevent getting rusty and bringing shame to myself as a Canadian.

I used to read the "Forums jeux vidéo" section of forums.jeuxonline.info. It has a similar type of moderation and posters are relatively informed in general (I'd say it's slightly better than Neogaf on that point). It's smaller in scale than Neogaf though, which is what lead me to spend most of my time here instead. CanardPC is pretty good too.

If you want a big forum with lots of traffic, the only one that comes to mind is jeuxvideo.com, which is IGN- or gamefaq-tier as far as moderation and quality of posters go (it's a huge website though, with tons and tons of posts).

Hahah, ofcourse I should've expected GAF to respond with exaggerated reactions and pile up like this. I know the internet has its own communities in various languages and obviously they can communicate there using their own languages. I'm bilingual myself. My main question was about memes which seem to be prevalent in English, and coudn't help but wonder if other languages have their own variations of memes, or if they would feel "lost", similar to people not getting an '"inside joke" amongst their friends that they missed out on because they weren't there in the moment. Really, you guys need to chill.

It's not just the foreigners... Go to another English site sometime and you will find that they have their own jokes, memes etc that wouldn't make sense to people on GAF

Jajajajaja

True story: we once had a receptionist in London who admired the French because She thought they were able to hear French and translate it into English in real-time...

I live in Turkey and i assure you guys Turkish internet is the weirdest shit ever. And the local memes are actually preety fucking hillarious.

You know, I agree. It must suck.
Let's just have every native language become English and freedom* can be ensured everywhere on the interwebs.

*Terms and conditions may apply.

This is what happens when you only browse Gaf and Reddit and have to actually question how people can enjoy jokes if they dont understand english.

trial and error also having a *insert foreign language* to english dictionary by their side would do wonders.

Yes and it's common sense.

English is the most popular and most widely used language in the world after all.

Name a country who doesn't use or teach English.

It would suck for everything if one can not read or speak English, not just the internet.

Even Pokemon(a Japanese cartoon) names are based on English!

I don't know if the fact that you think that people who don't speak English can't enjoy the wonderful world of memes and gifs is sad or funny. Like WTF are you talking about man.
