this almost feels like the time someone asked me if internet is a thing in Mexico
Reminds me that one time someone asked me if we had cellphones in France. In 2008.

just sad. sad.Reminds me that one time someone asked me if we had cellphones in France. In 2008.
almost all of the hilarious GIFs, memes, images, and weird lingo like "Thank you based God/Nomura/whatever name, are pretty much in English or are based on media that's in English

Personally, I feel the internet must suck for you people who only read read/speak English.
Also OP, I'm sure someone in China is asking the same thing about non-Chinese speakers.
This just occurred to me the other day. Seeing as how the majority of the people on the internet communicate in English, and almost all of the hilarious GIFs, memes, images, and weird lingo like "Thank you based God/Nomura/whatever name, are pretty much in English or are based on media that's in English, I can't help but wonder how boring and bland the internet might be for people who can't understand all of it. Does the non-english community of the internet have their own funny memes and things similar to us? I'm curious.
This thread should be rededicated to our favorite foreign memes.

Hahah, ofcourse I should've expected GAF to respond with exaggerated reactions and pile up like this. I know the internet has its own communities in various languages and obviously they can communicate there using their own languages. I'm bilingual myself. My main question was about memes which seem to be prevalent in English, and coudn't help but wonder if other languages have their own variations of memes, or if they would feel "lost", similar to people not getting an '"inside joke" amongst their friends that they missed out on because they weren't there in the moment. Really, you guys need to chill.
It's not just the foreigners... Go to another English site sometime and you will find that they have their own jokes, memes etc that wouldn't make sense to people on GAF
Jajajajaja
True story: we once had a receptionist in London who admired the French because She thought they were able to hear French and translate it into English in real-time...
That's next-level ignorance. Like holy shit

Reminds me of all the how Americans see the world maps![]()
Yes and it's common sense.
English is the most popular and most widely used language in the world after all.
Name a country who doesn't use or teach English.
It would suck for everything if one can not read or speak English, not just the internet.
Even Pokemon(a Japanese cartoon) names are based on English!
