WoW Open Beta

Holy shit this game is laggy.

FFXI... tends to have a pretty good indicator of when something goes wrong with the connection

with this, my connection is perma red (700 ms)... which isn't unplayable in and of itself... but utter shitcakes because it lags out so much.

Well... it's ok for now because I'm practically invincible... but hopefully battles aren't 3-5 second affairs at higher levels (like with Diablo 2), because then I'd be dying every which way.

Also I keep overbuying because of the lag... I buy something and it takes 2 friggin minutes to come up in the inventory.

Ridiculous!

If this is a stress test... their servers are fucking stressed to the point of unplayability. I hope they don't release it like this :(

I hope they do it release it this way, it should of been released already. Never had lag problems, not once. There must be hundred of thousands of players playing the game as we speak, that's all an open beta is for, to see how much you can stress your servers.

And this isn't a stress test btw, the stress test was last week and it ran flawlessly.

OB serves the same purpose as the stress test. I wouldn't even call the stress test a stress test. It was just a way to give FP subscribers entrance to the OB first. Anyway, before OB the servers were very stable. I wouldn't worry about it.

An OB lets you see how freaking far you can hammer the servers, it doesn't even reflect the normal population of players per server like a stress test does.

I'm not worried for one once, right now people are hammering the servers like there's no tomorrow. Not for nothing that Blizzard even closed the WoW website for a 'lil while with access to the boards.

You think this is bad? You've obviously never played EQ or SWG.

I don't think you understand my pain.

I'm not even that concerned about high lag... but it does tend to drop out for me alot... from 5-30 seconds quite frequently. At the start, the serve just didn't respond for a few minutes.

Zap, there'll be no lag after launch, trust me. I've played the game for weeks and have never experienced lag while playing. OB freaking sucks, wich is why I said to everyone I know to not bother getting into it. First, it ruins the magic of getting it at launch since you already know what to do and 2nd, it doesn't reflect the normal state of the game.

I wish I wouldn't of played the closed beta and stess test actually but I did bleh. At least I played a lot of classes and not so much of the one I'll play at launch.

downloading and downloading and downloading. Are people going to sorta gather on one server once live play starts? I guess 2 servers that is.. one PVP and one non.

Kinda like the FFXI launch. That was nice. Most of the people from GAF were together. I really used to love PVP in the MUDD's i played on BBS's when I was young, but I'm not sure about this... It seems like there is almost enough PVP on the non-PVP servers.

I haven't played open beta yet (installed this morning before leaving for work), but I'm not liking the addition of regeants and the durability penalty. Now, durability I can handle, but everyone seems to be saying it's way to high, especially the 10% for player death and 100% spirit raise. If they lower it alot then I'll be fine with it. Regeants, however, just totally suck. It's really turned me off and I'm hesitating purchasing now untill maybe a few months after release. I'm going to have to try OB though before I make up my mind. I don't want to be farming for regeants just to use buffs, I don't have alot of time to as it is, much less an annoying and unfun time and money sink. Let the crafting system by the money sink, or get some money sinks on there that aren't as taxing, or I'm going to have to rethink my purchase. It's a shame because WoW was the best MMORPG I'd played during the first stress test.

I think we should all play on a Central PvP server for retail. We could start a GAF Alliance, and a GAF Horde guild.

If not I'm going to play on a MST PvP server.

There's regs vendors in some towns. As far as the durability penality, it's nothing, they've reduced the durability loss you get from battle wear to balance with the one you get at death. Also, there won't be any loss when you'll die in PvP so it's all good!

Reagants aren't going anywhere, but the prices will be tweaked. Reagants and durability costs are waaaay too high right now.

Sounds good.....what about the Central timezone servers as that way the East or West coast won't get the major cross-country lag.

I know of the Regent vendor in Darnassus. She's been there for ages.

I would play PVP if enough of GAF was up for it. It could be really fun if the clan/guild could defend ourselves :)

Right now I'm leaning towards:

1.) Shaman
2.) Hunter (I like this but it seems like the "loner" class for now.. I don't want that again :\)

Ah that sucks, I'm gonna play on an east coast full pvp server with some friends, would of liked grouping with some of you :(

Shaman's are real fun and really good in PvP, so are Warriors :)

That's why I thought a central server would be good. Kind of in the middle for everyone. Make your friends change servers.

Yeah, I've been all over Shamans for a while. I like being able to do a little bit of everything, and I ESPECIALLY like being really helpful to other people if possible. I want to not be a total wuss tho :) Had that in FFXI :\

So, Shaman's seem good. I just hate picking the jack of all trades class because they seem to be the first to get nerfed bad. Look at Druids.. they are kinda Jack of all trades and most people say they do just that. Come be a poor warrior (bear form), poor rogue (cat form), etc.

I'll try but I doubt it, we're a good douzain of people all living on east coast heh.

That's cool, I'm all for durability as long as it's done right. But wait...!

This contradicts with Malakov's post. Like I said, durability is fine with me as long as it's implemented right. As of now, there's countless complaints about repair costs being too much, which I hope are addressed soon. Regeants though...I really hate, HATE regeants. Part of what I loved so much about WoW during the first stress test was that I didn't have to deal with regeants. We'll see how I adjust during open beta. I might just stick to a melee. Too bad. I liked my druid... :(

i'm really torn now. i've played my warlock enough to know that he's fun and worth making again in retail (although I will go orc instead of undead), so I kind of want to make a warrior and see if it'll be fun to play with the new changes to the berserker stance (which I was wanting to play using) and maybe even if they can tank better now (according to one dev post now you don't spam taunt, you just use it sparingly to pull something off another player and all the other abilities do the taunting instead). I've also played shaman enough to know that I'm definitely playing the class again in retail... not quite sure which race to use, though, as the racial traits are essentially worthless for any shaman race except for tauren IMO.

shaman is awesome and really can't be nerfed any. a lot of alliance pvpers whine and bitch about it being "overpowered" but honestly, it's mostly hot air because the class is pretty easily countered by rogues and warlocks, and even the class they're really good at taking down (priest) is pretty good at beating them if they go for shadow talents. if blizzard nerfed anything about the shaman class it would pretty much become worthless because it doesn't have any singular strong ability, just lots of very useful abilities that all synergize well. it's basically the first MMO hybrid class done right.

Crap, someone took the character name I was gonna use on Central Test 5 (Lenneth) :lol

I'll be under Lyonesse as a Priest on Central 5 instead.

Edit: This'll be after I get back from class though ;p.
I was on central 5 and yes, it's crowded (like I said last night :|).

Central 5 is too laggy Vep ;p. I'm sticking with Pacific 31 ;p.

Damn you!

I think I'm gonna head to a pacific server too. Let's see how 31 is :|

[edit] HOLY SHIT! Pacific 35 is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more crowded for Night Elfs than Central 5 and C5 is High population (Pacific 31 = medium). Holy crap...

Ok...99ms latency, but it's unplayable. I don't know if I'm attacking or not until the fight is over. I can't use my boy because the character just sits there with his bow out. I talk to NPC, but if I right click, it takes 45+ seconds for the merchant/quest window to pop up...if it ever does. Went back to the starting area and I thought it was empty, but then about 50 people popped up. o_O

Is this what it's gonna be like when this thing hits retail or are the servers just buggin' right now? I know it's not me because everyone is complaining in General 1 about the same thing.

Heh..yeah..everyone is complaining abou the lag, but we all know its just cause of the OB. Really the PVP servers aren't at all bad guys. Its pretty rare that someone will come and make your life hell for you if you wanna pve. Chances are (at least on my side) there will be a lot of players waiting for any type of grief player.

Just today we spent a good hour chasing after these two alliance guys while the lowbies were spamming chat on their position. Ended up with the lowbies taking him, but it was fun.

And don't worry to much about any class being the loner class. Most people will accept any class for grouping (outside of the needed tank and healer).

This game only get's better as you progress in level. I'm a level 13 that's now just starting to get some sweet items (green=uncommon), and I can't wait to hit up my first instance.

yeah, basically. there's a bit of a lull I mentioned earlier between level 30 and 40 (at least IMO it's a lull, just no real story to go there on either faction) but there are enough quests in 3 or 4 zones to allow people to level up enough to get to 40 pretty quickly.

Ahaha just died to a mob I couldn't even see...I suppose it was a spider, but it wouldn't show, so I couldn't attack it...

I've had quite a few bugs with fighting mobs. When i initiate a ranged attack, the mob (to me) looks like he's not moving at all, but really he's right up next to me pounding on me, and i can't do anything about it. Died from that.

Yesterday we had an invincible spider! Just kept hitting it but his bar was full when it killed us both. It wasnt an NM, dodging, evading or anything =/

Haha in the Night Elf town, there was a spider that was invading the town killing everyone. You couldn't kill it, you couldn't escape it, and you couldn't see it. Players were shouting to warn others not to get close. I logged off after that. Maybe I'll get some decent play in tomorrow.

The lag most people are experiencing are because of the large amount of players in one zone, not because the servers can't handle it, it seems.

As soon as I got away from the large number of people, I was able to do things much more rapidly and without much of a hitch.

I'm almost 13 with my Paladin on Pacific 31. Earned about 1 Gold yesterday and got myself trained in Sword and 2H sword (had 2H sword for a long while, got myself a nice shiny claymore with 23-35 damage now). Gonna try to do some quests in Westfall and probably run over to the Night Elves hometown to meet up with Nataku/Vep.

I made a Troll Hunter for now. Level 5 I think. It doesn't seem like anyone in the Valley of Trials/Den area sells bows or their equipment.

I got a new bow luckily from a quest, but I can't find someone to sell me arrows, or quivers. :\

If you were on Pacific 31, I could always send you some XD. Although I'm done to like 4 silver after gear upgrades.

The great thing about Stormwind = you can get almost everything there. The only thing they don't have is an Axe trainer (which i have to go to Ironforge for, which is an easy trip).

I can't see ANY realms. They are doing mainentence on US1 and US2..are there only 2 servers? Cause nothing else pops up for me.

Totally agree. I can vouch that this is not what its normally like....even witha full server load.

Leave the n00b zones and enter the wild!

Thanks, I think I just need to move on. This Den doesn't have much trainers. Someone told me to go to a troll Village jsut before it made me log off. I bet they have people who sell more gear there.

Communications question:

Ok, I've been trying the enter button/say command. Who does that talk to? People in my vicinity?

How to a "chat" for instance I see people chatting in General 1, and then there is a self-defense channel I get logged into. Thanks :)

/say is like ffxi /say, just in the vicinity

to talk in General, you have to do /1 blah blah

Trade channel is /2 blah blah

crap crap crap crap damn.

I got signed up via Fileplanet using the email my school provided. Come to find out that box was full 2 months ago and not receieving any mail. So now I'm stuck waiting for retail.
