Concord OPEN BETA Milestones

This is Jabali in Spanish

. I'm sure it's just a coincidence, 100% non-racist.
The boar looks better though.

I liked playing as Jabali, but he look gay af with those colors.
His design isn't even that bad.

*game wants modern audience*

Most played character: Basic white guy.

I mean... if that doesn't tell you Game Developers anything, then I don't know what will.

I don't think they even care, as far as I know they stay 90% of their time on social media and think thats the representation of the real world and as you can see, is not.

Not only that, but those numbers are like to like on movies as well. Those 'modern audience' movies like The Marvels and the New Indiana Jones, more than half watching are males.

They miss pretty easy their target audience.

A DEI/Woke game succeeding is despite of the stuff. Not because of it.

I don't think Sony have ever been known for putting out solely multiplayer titles like Concord. Most have included have included a single player element as well as far as I can remember.

While true, I'll chime in with that their best MP offering so far, Warhawk, lacked a campaign. Although I think it's weird how Firewalk is pushing the narrative angle without even a PVE mode of some sort. Betting on cinematic shorts, ehh… not sure about that one.

No SP mode, important for PS folks.

Well...not really. I'd consider myself a PS Folk and this game not having a SP mode is fine with me.

Its not a single player game.

Even Battlefield removing that mode was something I was ok with it.

Just cause I like single player games, doesn't mean I like crappy ones too lol If the team's core focus is a MP game, let the game 100% focus on just that. That actually isn't a con or negative for me. Not having a SP mode is fine, the game was not created for that and thats ok.

I was talking more alone the lines of peoples expectations of Sony first party stuff.

But yes i agree with all that you said there.

Edit: I liked Just cause as well. :messenger_winking:

I looked up some random scoreboards and it seems about 60 kills on average per match. Thats 200k total matches played over the span of 4 days on 2 platforms.
And if you add the fact that matches were fairly short in playtime, those are some pretty abysmal numbers.

True, but even then, we also know Sony has a long history with MP

GT series, Warhawk, Killzone, Resistance FoM, NBA Shootout series, Face off...man I fight old typing that in lol

Point is, Sony may be known for those record breaking and award winning single players, but they also have a long history of MP, so I do expect to get single player stuff from them, but I also expect MP stuff too.

I think during the PS4 days, maybe I had a bigger bias and over looked them sorta leaving some of that behind post PS3.

I feel Motorstorm to Driveclub
Warhawk to Starhawk
Selling off of SoE and many more was the last straw and they sorta backed away and allowed for 3rd party to do MP stuff

Then we go from Killzone to Horizon (as I recall, that game originally had a MP concept, so we sorta see that old school PS design, like a SP and MP mode ala Killzone / Resistance)
Then we go from Resistance to Spiderman

and its like you can see the restructuring of the whole MP thing at Sony with them focusing on what is working and sitting back and rethinking what is not.

PS5 gen is a return to that strong SP and strong MP focus on both fronts.

(we didn't mean to make a baby tree on this one lol)

Yep. I like both single player and multiplayer games. And I'm fine with them not having both in the one package. I think Sony have gone way too far down the single player route the last couple generations. We need a good multiplayer title from Sony studios. Not saying this is it but they need to start somewhere. We need some Killzone 2, Resistance or Warhawk/Starhawk back imo.

Oh yes i agree, but look how old some of the franchises you mentioned there. If they want to get back to those glory days they need to do a hell of a lot better than concord.

You forgot an honorary mention for Socom. Bring that back, it would do gang busters if done right.

Yes Sony largely dropped MP for PS4. Killzone and Resistance were axed, TLOU2 had no MP, no Warhawk, MAG, Socom... Some hidden gems though like Ghost of Tsushima Legends.

PS5 however is mainly critized because of Sony's plans with GaaS, the cancellation of Factions, Concord being a dud in a year Sony claimed they would release no sequels to or new AAA games and slower rate of output in general. There is still no Naughty Dog game to be found and there won't be when the PS5 is past its 4th year on the market. Okay, they and Sucker Punch released their big projects mere months before the PS5 came out hence they naturally would miss out some years. On the other hand Polyphony was fast to the party for once (GT7 came out just when the PS5's 1st year was over), and Santa Monica was sort of early with Ragnarok. But both were seen as cross gen projects.

But it has more to do with Sony's recent change in strategy and the things they said that they receive some flak at this moment.

damn, how can I forget that one lol

I feel, if I had to bring some back, Warhawk and Socom would be solid picks. Focus only on MP, make Socom a deep squad based type shooter, look towards the leads that worked on Ghost Recon series.

With GG on Horizon series and Insomniac on Spiderman / Wolverine, they should focus on those MP only aspects and the rest of those MP games should be new IP. Looking back at those old IP now, I realize maybe the new generation of gamers will not even get the reference of those old IP and the weight of the brand isn't as relevant today as it was 15 or 18 years ago. So of course, I have a bias, I love PS, but businesswise, I'd maybe only take 2 of those old IP to return and the rest would be new IP or something.

The early Ghost Recons were fantastic. I could camp for days in some of those games lol.

True. But god damn wasn't Resistance 2 amazing value with single player (some people didn't like but I did), the co-op missions with up to 8 players and then 60 player multiplayer. Absolutely bonkers. Would love a new Resistance game to be honest, I enjoyed it more than Killzone series.

True I enjoy the early ones as well as the new open world to type ones

I feel if they're able to get some of those leads on a team it's possible to bring Socom back but I don't know if Socom can return with the same exact concept in 2024

To let's say theoretically a few years ago we were building some Ace team to bring that series back we would also need to focus on what currently makes sense for multi player today

I would opt for a more darker tone, If an open world approach was going to exist, We could make it based on cartels and Drug dealing in South America or something like that.

So we would have an open world for these type of squad based missions , But also still have the multi player formula intact enclosed areas

I believe a focus on teamwork from land, air and sea should be their new focus

True, I don't disagree. We got a good combination that generation with those types of games, like Resistance and Killzone had great single players and also amazing multiplayers, but with how expensive gaming is today, to do both justice, it was take like some super team lol

Resistance 2 had like, everything lol They were pushing PS3 to its limits

Perfect also make it a slow squad based tactical shooter, with heroes(/s).

These meaningless milestones are the same kind of shit that Hyenas Twitter put out after their closed beta (the game was canceled 6 days later):

So I decided to look at the player peak during the Hyenas CLOSED beta:

Meanwhile, Concord's OPEN beta:
h2DTg4Q.jpeg

Barely 100 players more for an OPEN beta where all you had to do was Install and play. I think you had to sign up for a key for Hyenas' closed beta. Either way, the closed beta's performance is what finally convinced SEGA to pull the plug less than a week later.

That said, I still think the game may have a small audience on PS5. But the game is 100% dead on arrival on Steam.

One thing to remember, it that the studios that made most of those titles got closed because they underperformed.

And GG and Insomniac are primarily focused on singleplayer games.

lol nah, from that time frame, they need a full remake.

That would be a massive undertaking too, but if they are doing online MP stuff, I'd love to see some remake, reboot of that IP.
I'd take a 60fps ps3 upgrade over this shitshow any day of the week.

😭

I just want to play MAG again.

What's with these names? Haymar for the woman? Jabali? Teo?

What happened to cool characters with cool names?
Who knows. I skimmed Google to see what comes up with these 3 names.

Teo is a gender neutral Spanish name, or a Chinese last name.

Haymar isn't a first name anywhere. What comes up is a village in Syria and some old generation of Americans who had that as a last name

Jabali is the name of someone in an Indian epic story, an African mans name, and also pulls up a bunch of pics of wild boars

All told, very peculiar and rare names. Game writers trying their hardest to be unique. It's like a guy at work long time ago who'd always try to be witty to prove a point he's a brainer. Instead of calling something red or yellow, this warehouse worker would get wordy and say cherry or canary. The rest of us would look at each other and smirk WTF.
