WoW Open Beta

gah 2gb of it downloaded and now I have to sit for 209 minutes in a fp queue. ARGH!!!!

in other news I created my account using an address thats a halfway house for convicts ( thanks SpeedRazor) and a telephone number for a mormon church.
 
I got in and started downloading this morning. It seemed to be going VERY slow though. like 10-15k average.. hopefully it speeds up during the day or that's going to take forever.
 
I played last night for awhile and got up to level 5. The graphics are very nice and I really like the cartoony "disney" style look, but the gameplay so far seems meh.

So far it is just running around killing groups of bad guys... It seems very very similar to City of Heros in its gameplay. Does it change?
 
Woo! I finally got this dumbass installer to be nice to me and it installed overnight while I slept. It stopped at 3am but I got up quickly and set it again to install.

Now, I just need to figure out which server (damn j00 Ror and Vep) and then I'll be set. I'll just pop around on a few Pacific servers until we decide on one server to hang out on.

I have played pretty much every MMORPG and while they all pretty much are they same they have varing levels of depth. WoW has been touted as revolutionary, but it seems very similar to CoH (not a bad thing mind you) which is MMORPG-lite. It doesn't seem as hardcore as FF11 or Eq1, at least not at my preliminary level.
 
Crap, someone took the character name I was gonna use on Central Test 5 (Lenneth) :lol

I'll be under Lyonesse as a Priest on Central 5 instead.

Edit: This'll be after I get back from class though ;p.

Thats basically it.. why spend a bunch of time making content your userbase will outlevel? Onyxia is the entry level raid. You have to farm her drops to even be capable of raids beyond her. WoW has a gear based progression. I cannot wait to see the next 2 levels of gear (legendary and artifact).

anyone have any experience with a GM?

I made a ticket request.

do I have to be there when they happen to get to it?
do I have to be logged in as that character or can I play as a different one?


I was exploring with my ghost and jumped into a mountain crevice that is, apparently, physically impossible to jump out of. So all I can do is just sit there.

Just type /stuck and you'll be moved to the nearest graveyard.
 
Hrm, I can't seem to see anybody randomly shouting or saying anything, anyone know how to get it so I can see it or something?

I think the command is /join 1 - which is general chat.......a quick test would be to zone and see what channels you auto-join.

Ooo one more thing it could be is that you are toggled to the Combat Tab instead of the Chat Tab. Rt click in the chat space and see if you can select the Tab on the right which I believe is called Chat.

just tried it, but it doesn't register as a command, just told me to type /help to see a few commands.

Weird...it worked a few patches ago when I had to use it for exactly the same thing (I fell off a waterfall edge as a ghost)
 
Does anyone know how to change the background resolution? Mine's very jaggedy and I don't remember it being nearly this bad during the stress test. I'm running at 1600x1200 by the way.
 
GM response has been really fast in my experience. I wouldn't be suprised if that slowed down given the larger number of players now though.
 
Since the GMs have been on 24/7 the most I've had to wait has been about 3 or 4 minutes. I'd go hours upon hours waiting for a response in UO and EQ. Hopefully they stay fast with all of these new players.
 
Blizz is whoring out my connection, I can barely do anything on the internet :\ Oh well. Still have about 8-10 more hours of downloading also.

I did, but the ticket system seems screwy, no matter what I put in there when I try to edit it 90% of the time its just blank. Is it erasing what I wrote? no idea.

I've been waiting for a response for 3 hours now.

No, it isn't erasing what you wrote. When you edit it gives you a blank slate to rewrite your problem. You're old ticket still exists if you cancel it.

GMs must be going insane with all of these OB testers.
 
Man, Central 5 is crowded. My Priest is on that server.

I'm on Pacific 31 with my Paladin which is really low in population at the moment.

I just came back to my game, I was logged off (even though I left it logged in)m my open ticket is gone, and I'm still stuck.
 
oh my god, they sent me an email saying they couldn't help me because I was afk at the time they checked. They really expect you to just sit there staring at the screen for 3 hours while you wait for them to sort out their incompitance?

is it so hard to understand I am STUCK.

Heh, I didn't think this game would run so bad on my system... but my little 8500 is barely pushing this game along. 15-20 fps max outdoors, 30-35fps indoors. :lol

It looks surprising smooth for being 15fps tho... so /shrug. Even so, I need a new video card...

The extreme lag cause by the Open beta is causnig major slowdown that wasnt there this past weekend. It was FAR smoother even on my crap GeForce 4.
 
Yea... mine took forever.

EDIT: Oh anyone know if there is a way to increase the volume on the voice clips NPCs and voice emotes PCs can do? For some reason they're far lower than any of my other sound effects/music. Not sure what adjustment bar they're tied to..
 
try turning off sound at character, I think that can change it. it's odd for me, only a few NPCs are loud: my character's race (aka orcs if I'm an orc, and so on) and goblins (who are hilarious, just like in warcraft 3).

Actually... I think I'll restart and come over there. Don't really care about the time difference. Would be nice to play with someone I know... even if it is you. ;p
