I guess I never thought about it, I didnt know anyone actually bought the base iPhone. Who would want that over the Pro? If you are that cheap, buy an android.
Most people are rocking the peasant models or older models. 🤣

I'm liking the camera button, though a tradtional mechanical two-stage would probably still be better for when capacitive just won't work.

The action button is nice too. That it's in the same place thay Samsung put their Bixby button (which could eventually have it's function changed), yet Apple don't get flak for it is rather irksome.

It is nice to see physical and dedicated controls making a comeback. Again, sadly, it is only after Apple do something that, outside of a few niche players and segments, the rest of the industry will follow like sheep. So, hopefully within six months other companies will start releasing phones with action buttons and camera buttons.

Sony's Xperia 1 and 5 series phones have a dedicated camera button

Xiaomi phones have a camera kit accessory. They are 3rd worldwide in market share just 1 percentage qpoint behind Apple. Hardly a niche player.

I deliberately worded my post to address that. I knew somone would come in and accuse me of claiming Apple 'invented' it. Read my comment again.

Anyway, I've long used Nokia and Sony (Sony Ericsson) phones with camera buttons. Sony are the only one left, and are very much a niche player now.

Anyone jumped to the iOS 18 RC yet?

Probably the least interested I’ve been in an iOS update. I want the new calendar month view but the Photos redesign seems dog shit.

Had it for a bit now and yeah there's no huge changes that are exciting.
The photos thing is quite editable, and I've almost completely adjusted it so it's like it was. But there's options.

Same overpriced and underpowered crap
What a joke
Underpowered compared to what? It’s the strongest chipset out there.

I’ll get the new pro max and hand down my 14 pro max.

I’ve got an ultra watch but that black, nearly makes me want to hand that down as well 😂

Well, I may upgrade from my 15, even though I typically keep my phones until they're old husks weezing along. The return of ports and buttons and they way they're using them just sounds too nice to avoid.

BestBuy is currently offering a $300 trade in value for the watch series 9 45mm if is good condition. You could get the series 10 for $100 or $130 based on your screen size. If you, like me got the series 9 on sale for $300. That’s one heck of a deal.

I’m really liking ios18. Specifically the fact that we now have dark mode icons and they look fantastic along with having everything else in dark mode.

New OS + new case = my iPhone 12 Pro feels new again.

I have a 15 pro and my wife won't let me upgrade

I tried telling her that she could get mine and I could get the 16 pro thus starting in our family the honored tradition of the phone swap down, but no

I don't know how that camera control button is going to sit with left-handed people. Haven't heard anyone mention this.

I'm a leftie and I checked throughout the day and I hold my phone exactly where this button is.

Does this thing trigger with a touch or is it an actual press? I don't want to switch to camera 100 times a day.

My wife’s 11 has some non-glass screen damage going on (lines running across the display) and I’ve also considered proposing this with my 15 Pro…but she’s so frugal I bet she’ll want a less expensive route

Never have combined bank accounts with your wife.
I have a bank account with my wife it works out great we talk. But there has never been a time where I go I want this and she said no. Most of the time it is me telling her, stop spending every dollar we earn.

maybe you just need to budget and save. Set aside 100 a week or something.

It's common that couples have a saver and a spender. In my case I'm the spender and she's the saver. Seems your case is the other way around.

Spending $1K+ on a phone when you already have last year model is not financially smart, you don't need the newest shiny thing.

This is something that I have been struggling with for a while now, cause I usually have the latest tech, but there are smarter ways to use that money 🤷‍♂️

Oh I'm aware. It's not a "need", it's a "can afford" and "want". I like having the latest gadgets but I totally know it's a waste of money.

If it was a "need" I wouldn't let my wife's discontent decide for me. She filters my unnecessary purchases

Yeah, in the last few years I've been trying to fight that feeling, even though I have the money, I could certainly do something better with it.

I guess this is not the thread for that discussion anyway :messenger_tears_of_joy:

It can be when apple products are so expensive. My XS Max I managed to get about half off refurbished, and my macbook air at least half off used. Refurbished is probably best, since "used" stuff you take a risk with scratches. My macbook screen is a bit dinged up, but you don't notice much while it's on thankfully.

I just switched from a XS Max to a 15 Pro (no Max). Got a good deal and I don’t need the latest tech. The smoothness is quite amazing, though I don’t see the advantage of 120hz yet. Maybe my eyes are already too old.

You probably notice it more on heavy games, but general use, not really. I notice 120hz or higher a lot more on tvs and monitors during action scenes or playing stuff in first person. I'll probably ride out my current phone until it becomes unbearable. As of right now, I don't have issues with it

iPhone 12 here, not noticing any slowdowns with iOS 18.

I feel like I need an upgrade though, since I have the 64GB model. But it's such a hassle having to upgrade so I am putting it off. :messenger_pensive:

What do you mean? They made it super easy to transfer from one phone to the next. In fact the whole experience feels like magic, the way you connect the two phones.

Look up some youtube videos, it's legit no hassle at all.

Living in Sweden it is.

We have this thing called BankID, which you use to identify yourself (basically the whole society seems to be based on it these days). It does not transfer between phones.
So you have to apply for a new one each time you change your phone or when it expires, before that did not require much effort.

But my bank and probably many others (which issues these BankIDs) now requires a different type of ID (called nationellt ID kort) which is issued by the police, in order to get a new BankID.
Renewing an old BankID does not require this nationellt ID which is why I am keeping my old phone. :messenger_expressionless:

I don't have a nationellt ID kort that's why I keep putting it off.

So I managed to get iphone mirroring to work, but one issue I'm having is how to zoom in and out of things since I can't pinch. How the heck do you do it?

So, I have an iPhone 8, is it time to upgrade?
Sure, but not to a 16. Grab whatever model has the features you need for a fraction of the cost.

I am still using a regular iPhone 11 128GB. The only reason I even use the 128GB is because I store my entire CD collection in lossless directly on it. It still works perfectly. I've never even had the battery replaced. Bought it day one.

I used to upgrade every other year, mainly for the camera and larger screens. I went iPhone 4 to 5 to 6 to 8 to 11, and just stopped. There haven't been any features other than Dynamic Island that are even remotely intriguing since then. The standard 11 also has the perfect screen size; not too big and not too small.

I was on the fence about upgrading but after watching this and thinking about it for a bit it makes zero sense to do so, especially considering Apple Intelligence won't deploy in the EU for god knows how long, if ever.

What a weird release.

Same with the Apple Watch 10, it makes no sense to go for a 10 when you get a basically identical 9 for 100 bucks cheaper.

iPhone 13 Pro here, iOS 18 works wonders. iOS 18 cut out iPhone X, which released in 2017, so 7 years of OS updates. Using this logic the 13 will be cut around the second half of 2028...
