Posting anonymous because I really shouldn't be saying this. Yes, it's for real: notch wants to sell out. It's been known inside the company for weeks. The news hit the developers in the Stockholm office very hard to the point that people were actually sobbing. No-one's happy besides the two people likely to end up with a large pile of cash after this goes down.
So... what will Microsoft end up getting out of this then?
I think MS just wants to buy access to the next generation of gamers. Minecraft is the King of the schoolyard and playground. Now that Nintendo is not converting people into gamers MS will grab the opportunity with Minecraft.
This actually makes a LOT of sense... good post! But good lord, I would not want to be the person tasked with that...
If they take the "Minecraft 2" approach, how do they do it in a way that would be effective? And really, what else COULD they do? It can't be a new IP... they wouldn't have needed to buy Majong for that...
My head is spinning... lol
