At a live event in Toronto tonight, Santino Marella announced his retirement from in-ring competition:

Sad that he has to retire as a wrestler, but I am sure the WWE will keep him around as a comedic character. Good on him for making the right choice for his health.
 
While I never cared for the character, it's always sad when a performer has to retire far too young.

He can probably continue to have a career with the WWE without in-ring action.
 
It's sad to see him retire from in ring competition. Santino was entertaining to watch I'll give him that.

Luckily, he's got a good bit of ability on the mic. I'd imagine he'll probably be around for a while longer as an on-screen character. At least, I hope so.
 
His daughter went to my highschool. My Lil bro met him when he was driving around my neighborhood and stuff. Oh yeah I also saw him grocery shopping when I was working.

Seems like a good guy. I remember his debut against Umaga (rip)

I hope Emma's recent troubles and this don't add up to something bad for her!

In any case, he's a legitimately great comedic wrestler, if not at the Kikutaro level, and his "almost winning" Royal Rumble 2011 http://www.wwe.com/videos/alberto-del-rio-makes-history-royal-rumble-2011-26021340 and Elimination Chamber 2012 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6KYppySTahU were absolutely part of the "WWE stops sucking" streak from 2011-2014 for me.
 
This guy was one funny motherfucker, I never stopped laughing at how he pronounced Cena's name. Even Cena would corpse when he did it.
 
Damn, when I saw his name in the title, my stomach turned for a second as I thought he might have passed away...

Glad he's allright, although I'm sad to see him retire as I really enjoyed his performance.
 
Aww, I quite liked him. Nothing wrong with a good comedy character.

Although, does this mean Emma can do diva matches now?
Using her new shoplifter gimmick, of course.
 
Maybe you can make one about Hulk Hogan's huge hog. Or Virgil being seen at a convention. Or Heath Slater appearing on Raw. Fucking christ. There is a reason this garbage form of entertainment was banished to Community.

-Speedwalking the ropes
-The top rope salute headbutt
-Entrance theme

I know you're just as embarrassed of this and the other 4 fake fighting threads currently in OT full of people who think they are smart marks because they know the terms "jobber" and "push". Bummer. :( He was an entertaining dude. Hopefully he'll stick around in some capacity...and I don't mean doing ads for Twisted Tea on PPVs.
