WWE's The Miz has fiery verbal clash w/ retired wrestler Daniel Bryan: real or fake?

Work or shoot or not, this is definitely promo of the year, and probably the best promo Miz has ever done. Fucking fire.

Wrestling is so, so good right now. Smackdown and Talking Smack are the best.

Bret is a salty motjerfuckermotherfucker.

HHH was the best wrestler on the planet in 2000. Dude was making guys like Taka seem like they had a chance to beat him. He may have been mediocre post quad injury, but the guy has flat out been in good shit.

Hell, he went hold for hold with 2000 Benoit in a straight wrestling match.

He was not the best wrestler on the planet. He might have had the best matches because he got to go up against some of the best wrestlers of all time in their primes every month but he wasn't the best wrestler on the planet.

2000 Misawa laughs at 2000 HHH.

Obviously fake. At least I hope so.

The way that guy went off on one waving his arms around...was clearly playing it up for tv.

I hope he doesn't actually act so over the top when he's angry.

Obviously fake but incredibly entertaining...

Yep. Miz was definitely tapping into a long-standing sense of being under-appreciated as a worker though for not coming up via the indie scene, and the truth of the matter is he needs to do a bit more at this point to stand out as champ.

The obvious thing though is that the office clearly has faith in him, or he wouldn't be holding the belt. Going off on his kayfabe "boss" is just a great way to get heel heat.

I'm just impressed that this work worked so well that folks are actually asking whether or not it's a work or a shoot.

Feels like the good ol' days.

And of course we have Bryan saying he doesn't trust doctors. Ridiculous. Everything about him is unsafe, and it's a shame. He was fun to watch but I want him to live. I don't like that he's reckless, questioning doctors, ignoring their advice, picking his own doctors for "new and untested methods" and being anti vax.
Got a source on that, champ?

More good wrestling? Pal, you gotta watch that AJ Styles vs Cener.

Oh that was absolutely fantastic but everything else was just kind of decent and on this huge PPV, to me, you cannot have semi decent for four hours. It in a lot of ways reminds me of when TNA actually had a prayer ten years ago and they were halfway decent. When AJ Styles came on or a few of the other main X-Division guys worked a match, you knew you'd get something solid but everything before and after was just kind of meh.

I want to look forward to a three hour Raw on Monday nights and I dread it so I usually just have a PWTorch live report up in one tab and have my friend tell me if anything I might be interested in is happening live.

Is it a work if feelings are hurt?

There's no way Daniel Bryan didn't spend an extra couple of seconds looking at himself in a mirror after that.

It was a video, pal. Not written. Get with the program.

Of course, you mentioned how unfair it was that people might not like Danny Bryan so maybe that's coloring your judgment a little.
This video, friend? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_7A0SfjIAsU

I'm almost through the whole thing and have yet to hear anything suggesting he's anti-vax and voting for Jill Stein. I'm genuinely invested in getting to the bottom of this though, so please tell me if this is not the right video.

I don't think that's it. The one I saw was at Summerslam itself at an Axxess-like event that had people walking around, not in a studio. It was a throwaway comment as well.

It was an Axxess-like event but not Rosenberg, there was also a Ryback interview by the same guy. Can't remember who he was but I think he wore a hat

Considering how steadfast NeoGAF Vince McMahon is about Daniel Bryan being anti-vax you'd figure he'd have his sources queued up faster than you can type "I remember that podcast! Good callback!"

I'm on mobile, not too conducive to finding what I need. It's just a throwaway line at the SS where it was him and Cena. I can dig it up but it'll be later. He was absolutely discussing Total Divas during it.

Guys, why aren't more people talking about Vince getting blown up when his limo exploded? Shouldn't there be more news about this man getting killed in such an incredible fashion?

That was the final nail in the coffin for me knowing wrestling was truly a work.

I remember, because of this, I thought Chris Benoit's death was a work when I saw it on WWE.com but then Vince showed up in the opener of RAW. I got TRIPLE worked in those two weeks

WWE making marks out of fools in a big way over the last week. If you even have to ask if this is "real" you don't have a clue about wrestling. Brock going hardway on Randy, Miz shitting on Bryan, Sami showing severe ankle injury in a match yet being allowed to finish said match. Some serious mark alerts going off all week.

I'll never be a fan of Miz's in-ring, but that was an amazing promo that felt so much like the kind of old school promo that I miss in modern wrestling and the attention he is getting for it is well earned. Bryan deserves credit too for all the great setup he gave him and really selling getting his soul crushed there. Fabulous bullet point work from both guys and Renee's reaction shots while it was all going on made the entire thing even more priceless. Some amazing work going on in the Smackdown roster the last couple of weeks. I hope people start to take notice and tune in because it's becoming a more engaging brand than the flagship show.

Obviously a work at first but Daniel Bryan didn't help at all. Calling a guy a coward and attacking him for his in-ring style (basically, saying he's crap at his job) will turn it into a shoot real quick.

What leads me to believe that it was a shoot was The Miz being apologetic to Renee Young. His heel character is he thinks he's too good to talk to anyone.

Definitely a work but its still nice to see Miz put in some effort and going all out on the mic. Segments like this is something this pg era needs more of.

Also DB is right. The Miz has like the softest, safest and most boring style out of any wrestler today. Its similar to the criticism that Bret Hart had on Triple H when he said H has never been in a great match. Same with Miz. He can brag all he wants about never being injured and always working but fans aren't gonna give a shit. Wrestlers are remembered for great matches first n foremost. That is what makes you great.

Agree with most of what you said but Brett Hart has to be one of the most overrated wrestlers ever. I always thought his matches were boring. Even worse with his stint in WCW. The more I hear him talk to more resentment I think the guy has.

Yeah, if it was a work Miz would've just been rude to her too or would just ignore her

I'm obviously in the minority here - it was a good promo, but far too repetitive for my liking. The intensity of the delivery didn't really cover for the overuse of the same 'I'm a coward?' rhetoric.

And I'm a massive Miz fan, so it's not bias - but I think he had quite a few better promos in his run leading up to his WWE Title win, and into WM28, with the best being his 'shoot' on JBLs hazing during his feud with MVP. It was delivered a lot calmer, but you could still feel the truth oozing out of him.

Regardless, I'm glad Miz is getting his props, cause the guys is a top heel, and a great ambassador for the WWE. He deserves another main event run this year.

I will never get over the ceaseless fascination wrestling fans have over whether something is a work, a shoot or a worked shoot. Frankly, I don't think it matters. All that matters is whether it's good TV or not. And this - unlike most of what WWE puts out - was good TV.

And it won't lead to anything (i.e. a match) so who cares.
