Which will have the better mileage?

I want to play both Doom3 & Half life2,in one benchmark the 6800GT raped the X800 Pro but the x800pro faired a bit better in Halflife2 benchmarks.

What of the Shader Model 3.0 & four extra pipes, will this 6800GT the edge in the future?

6800GT seems to be the better card right now. I think you will see more games in the future based off the Doom 3 engine so you are probably better off with it.
When used, the Shader Model 3.0 gives an atvantage to the 6800GT.

16 pipes vs 12 pipes - 6800Gt wins

This works... %100 (on specific cards... do a little reading, it's not hard to find one). I recently found a sapphire x800 pro 256mb VIVO and did the exact process on this page with no problems. Running very stable with 16 pipelines @ 520/560.

ATI is my call though if you're just looking for opinion :)

I remember reading a bunch of benchmarks when I was researching what card to get, and the 6800 GT seemed like the best of the lot for price/performance of a high end card. Things may have changed since then, but I am more then happy with the GT. Best card I ever owned, runs anything I own flawlessly (HL2, Doom, anything).

I'd say far more games will be based off the Source and Unreal engines which are ATI friendly. But ya, in that price-range right now the 6800GTs are probably the way to go. I have a x800 Pro that I got on big discount and am EXTREMELY happy with. I got it a few months ago, so if I was in the market right now I'd wait a couple of months since the new refresh should be coming pretty soon. At the very least that'll drive current products down in price.

As far as DX9 games go (Halflife 2, Far Cry), the 6800 GT and the X800 Pro are effectivly even. The 6800GT cleary has an advantage over the X800 Pro for games programmed using OpenGL (Doom 3). As much as I appreciate the fact that the X800 has a more efficient design, I have to go with the 6800 GT due to it's clear advantage with OpenGL (and Linux, if you're into that) and it's nearly identical performance with DX9.

Very well put

Might as well pose this question here...

I'm going to be buying a 6600 gt PCI-E in a few days.

Which of these is the best company?

XFX
Leadtek
Gigabyte
Albatron(although I don't think i'll go with them...last card i got from them had a jammed fan)
MSI
EVGA
Chaintech

I should also note that the leadtek and MSI both have bundles that are of minor interest to me. But they're not a big deal, and I'd rather have abetter card with no bundle then a somewhat lesser card with a bundle.

That's a real tough one. Most manufacturues either use the stock Nvidia reference design (good) or add a little something extra (better). It's kind of hard to go wrong. MSI is great. EVGA is great. All of them at least seem decent.

Is BFG owned by some other company? Where the hell did they come from? Lifetime warranty is useless if they go under in 2 years.

I would go with BFG (because of what you said, the warranty), but I don't think I'll be able to get it at the same price, or even remotely close to the others.

Besides I also realised MSI's bundle is much larger than I thought, unless I'm reading something wrong. So I think I'll go with that.

The 14 in 1 games collection...is that all those COMPLETE games? If so that's REALLY cool.

I honestly don't know who are the best but I have been happy with my eVGA 5900 XT and they have a great upgrade program that you can take adavntage of in 3 months (might be longer) after you purchase your card. Anyway, eVGA is a major Nvidia manufacure, but any of the brands should last you 3 years of more.

A lot of those are budget titles so I'd assume that they are. That's a nice deal though.

Edit: Bleh! Only 128mb though. I assume they have a 256mb version with the same bundle, right?

Man, looking at benches, I think SLIing two PCI-E 6800GTs is gonnna be a video card setup that is going to last you a LONG TIME.

Thats a 6600 gt, not a 6800. I dont think the 6600 comes in 256mb.

Before you decide on a GT, what processor do you have?

If you have anything at or below an Athlon 2500 (even a 2800) or equivalent, then the X800 will be much better. The 6800 GT seems to be much more dependant on the CPU then the X800.

For example. this X800 PRO on an Ahtlon 2100 is faster the GT and even the Ultra at some points in Half Life2.. LINK

I want to add that some older games/tech demos may (most likely will) have issues with the way the 6800 handles IQ.

For example, Far-Brausch's Zeitmachine. On the ATI, and previous Geforce hardware IQ is flawless however on the 6800 when you turn on the IQ you get this huge blurry mess. Don't count on the Video processor either (first post on Nvidia's first forum which went online two days ago was a post wanting to know what the hell is up with the broken 6800 Video procs).

But, just like Max_cool said, if you can find an X800 cheaper then 399.99, the X800 is the better deal. When I mean cheaper I mean 349 or less. Unfortunately, you should of asked or read my earlier post. New Egg had brand new X800 Pros for 349 and the OEM/refurb ones at 329.99. Gateway also had them for 349 for a bit. People caught on and now the demand went back up and New Egg has them for 399 - 429 as well as gateway.

For 399.99 the 6800 GT (read the nvnews forums before deciding on brand, lots of bad cards from certain AIB makers). If you are feeling bold, X800 PRO Refurb for 353.

You could wait till January and see if the X800 PRO ( and maybe the 6800 GT) prices go down a bit. You might want to look around for black friday deals as well.

Hmm i have 2500Barton i most likely will upgrade the cpu to a 3200 in six months-years times,

i live in the uk :D

I won't be buying the card till jan2005

Man it's a hard choice to make as they are both good cards...

Is there a reason you're not overclocking that to 3200ish speeds already?

It's in a box with other PC part's waiting for the GPU,OS DVD:RW

Is it safe to overclock it that much?
