Xbone: Microsoft blames the media for consumer rage.

I really hope something comes out of this. It seems these fucking corporations just keep making technology as an excuse to take more and more of our rights away as consumers. Go fuck yourselves, Microsoft. Same goes to any company that supports this bullshit.

Some of the mob-mentality stuff here recently has started to scare me a bit, but if you guys are making enough noise to put Microsoft on edge, keep up the good work I guess.

but the media blames us for raging against the XBone

next step is of course the XBone raging against Microsoft, and this is how Skynet was born

MS can complain all they want, but they've ended up using the media to push this "infinite power of the cloud" bullshit to make them look good.

Now is the one time when angry crowds are actually okay. And if it won't stop them from launching these policies, I do hope the majority on GAF continue to strongly recommend Sony and Nintendo for the next few years (assuming these companies won't adopt similar anti-consumer restrictions).

Maybe it's not that astonishing, but I've certainly been dumbfounded... and I didn't think my opinion of game journalism could get any lower. A true new low has been reached with this situation, though. There's no way we can get lower than some game "journalists" blaming consumers for being 'jealous' or 'entitled' when they rage against the most sweeping anti-consumer measures in game industry history.

As to the other part of your comment, to be honest I've been so furious I haven't had time to do such research, but I'd like to see such results myself.

Ok, after doing some initial research, I'm definitely going to write it... for you, me, and that nerd over there. The only good analyses are comparative analyses, so I'll probably title it "Games Media and Console Launches: A Comparative Analysis" and look at the news dissemination of the Wii U, Xbox One, and PS4 console announcements. I'll work on it this weekend and hopefully have it posted by Tuesday.

lol seriously..wtf is wrong with this industry

Honestly, I think the only difference between this industry and others is that the consumers are numerous and highly vocal. There has always been a contention between news reporters (IGN, Gamespot, CNN, Reuters, etc.) and news sources (Microsoft, Sony, the United States Government, EU, IMF, etc.). What is interesting is that the news reporters have a need to please the news sources in order maintain a healthy connection and thus access "breaking news."

This has been problematic since print media, and even more so after the fall of the Berlin Wall (not because of ZOMG COMMUNISM!! but because of the gained authority and popularity of television news and news in general).

It makes sense to me that there should be a contention between news media and the consumer when the consumer relies on news media to access "breaking news." Hmmm...

I can already imagine the consternation at MS HQ.
'Who the fuck do these PR regurgitating brownnose asslickers think they are saying anythig negative about our product? What do we even give them all that ad money for and why do we even invite them to these bars? Why the fuck do we pay all our good loyal PR people to jerk these turds off into doing our bidding? They have ONE JOB, sell our product to the masses , and they can't even do that.

Or something of that sorts.

I wish we could see the threatening messages/emails to editors to withdraw privileges, cancel ad deals, threaten with blacklisting etc unless they adjust 'their message'

They TOOK ISSUE with what they perceive to be non-factual, FALSE reports. What the hell is wrong with that???

Edit: And they did in a rather low-key, professional manner, IMHO.

Compare Microsoft's rebuttal/clarifications, with the rants by internet fan-boys. And again, I myself got a laugh out of "Angry Joe" going into full apoplexy. Nevertheless, it still is over-the-top, knee-jerk reaction to information that has not been made official (at best), and at worst, is a complete over-reaction to what Microsoft's actual DRM policy actually appears to be.

It's Microsoft's fault for putting themselves in this situation in the first place.

They really should just come right out with all the bad shit, instead of letting it all stew.

Maybe I'm just being naive but I'm still hoping a majority of the currently held presumptions are ultimately going to prove unfounded.

If Microsoft had been smart, they have gone with games presentation first, TV interface presentation second and let everything dribble out. By the time we realized they were actually going to do 'no used games, onlined-required' we would be talking about other things as well.

But no, it's the media's bias. Welcome to the Microsoft bubble.

I think Sony is enjoying this. They couldn't hope for a better screw up.

If they were really enjoying it, they'd be trumpeting how much better their plan is.

Their silence means they're dreading announcing the same thing in 2 weeks, and maybe a bit happy that the association is out there with Xbox instead of them to begin with.

There is about zero chance I will buy MS next console now.

Blame GameStop, blame pirates, blame the media.

The most grating thing is these fucking entertainment companies seem to think we are fucking crack addicts or something. Like oh, yeah this totally sucks but there is no way anyone can resist our sexy POS box. They will accept it and we will make bank! No fuck you. People didn't blindly accept the ps3 "work harder" bullshit, they didn't blindly accept the wiiU's whateverthehell positioning.

It's like they feel they can't possibly fail with thier stupid plan, ignoring countless systems before that have crashed and burned. Gamers are not some stupid sheep that will just BOHICA for your bullshit. Allot of us have been here since the beginning, Allot of us will not just roll over and let you dictate how we spend our entertainment dollar.

At the end of the day no one needs a console. It is a luxury time waster. I have a closet full of them. I could go 20 years playing shit I already own. There are a lifetime of games released this gen alone that I could play.

Sony will not announce any such thing. If they did it would be the second crash of the industry and probably the end of their company.

Seriously, Microsoft can just go to hell. Let them put their always on, mandatory camera corporate box in homes. I'll be sure to laugh my ass off heartily at any future class-action lawsuit that arises from Kinect being hacked in someone's home. They are just asking for it with a console like this, and I hope like hell it happens.

Angry Joe and his followers have gathered quite the pitchfork and torch crew informing any and everyone about the Xbox One's policies that strip you of your rights as a consumer!

I love angry joe, but I seriously doubt he can have any influence (positive or negative) on Xbox' image. I mean come on, it's just some youtube guy.

lol

Completely out of touch.

Touch is outdated. It's all about kinect gestures now.

Ha, you gotta love this industry.

It's amazing that everything resets each generation.

Microsoft is acting like the 360 install base instantly converts into the Xbone install base come November.

The install base of PS4 and Xbone are both currently sitting at exactly 0 units sold. The company that accepts that will win the gen.

Unless of course they are going to do the exact same thing and are letting MS take the initial heat.

If they were really enjoying it, they'd be trumpeting how much better their plan is.

Or maybe everyone hoping that Sony does the same thing should tell us why they feel that way. I've read so many post with people saying that Sony will do the same, it makes my head spin, wondering why anyone would want that. With things going this badly for Microsoft, Sony doesn't have to say a word until E3. But of course Sony announcing something similar would somehow make the XB1(sorry I refuse to use that other name, it's bad enough that I can only read it as X-bone.) look better, right? It won't, it will just make them both look dumb.

If something is revised as a result of all this then great.

They have a huge installed based with Xbox 360 so they figured they were in a position to pull anything they wanted and we would have to just accept it.

I am shocked but impressed if this somehow is altering what we were suppose to hear at E3 and what we will hear now as a result of this.

I wont post the whole thing because its a decent read, but here is abit of it.

http://m.cinemablend.com/games/Microsoft-Blames-Gaming-Media-Xbox-One-Consumer-Rage-56056.html

I searched around, but did not find this article but a few places are reporting on it, so if old I apologize.

As for the article, I fully agree with the sentiment. If Microsoft does not like the bad press the they need to start answering peoples questions about Kinect privacy, always online, and used games. I dont think this is an issue that is going to just blow over at this point because it just keeps building onto itself. Really it needs to be the first thing they talk about at E3.

If they haven't done enough to buy off the press, that's their own fucking fault, just throw some free shit at them, like a press beta kit or something, free ads, etc.

I don't want it, and I'm certainly not hoping for it - In fact I'm dreading it - but their silence on the matter is making me expect it.

I suspect this whole thing is really coming from EA and Activision rather than MS, and if Sony wants their games on PS4, they'll have to play ball too.

As much as I hate Activision I believe they had nothing to do with this nonsense drm Microlol put on. This stench has EA written all over it. Activision never had an online pass system in place and they made a ton of cash off DLC. Meanwhile EA had online passes and they recently announced they would stop that practice, why because Microlol was going to implement it in their next console. I mean I know Activision loves this idea because it guarantees them more money but I don't think Activision gave ultimatums or anything.

I agree that EA are probably the primary ringleaders, but I think Activision and Ubisoft are both happier than pigs in shit about it.

I don't exactly pity Microsoft. They're big boys. But you do get the sense like they are always starting a race in last place. Say what you will about how well the 360 has done, but just about nobody was giving them a chance against the PS3 back then, even with the ps3's price and super exotic hardware.

Microsoft is always better being the underdog.

The Xbox 360 is a gift from the gods compared to this draconian piece of shit.

I agree with Microsoft. It was the media that made Windows 8 a piece of crap.

Oh wait...

Can someone define "anti-consumer"? I googled it but I only found "anti-consumerism" which is a lot different from what Microsoft is about.

Umm....as a member of the lamestream media, the mainstream media reported on what they showed and unveiled. I think I said in another thread that the official AP story on the Xbox One unveiling that was on the wire didn't mention an actual fucking videogame until 21 inches into their story. (Which might as well be on the jump page B24). That game was CoD Ghosts. Any mention of games was buried, because they didn't show anything game-worthy. It was all about TV, Sports and Kinect.

Now, it's one thing to get mad at the gaming enthusiast press whom have shown themselves to be corporate cheerleaders yet again, but it's another thing to blame the press as a whole.

Shit, they should be doing fucking cartwheels because the mainstream press has been nothing but positive towards the Xbox One.

They are just fucking mad because those in the gaming press are actually asking them hard questions, unlike the lamestream media that doesn't know shit when it comes to games.

Sony thought so too when they tried the whole "people will work 2 jobs to afford PS3" nonsense. Complacency does not get rewarded in this industry.

Technically, none of this build up means anything if the system comes out, has great games, and isn't nearly as bad as people thought it would be. Usually the idea of something is far worse than the reality. I've learned this over and over.

Alone, no. But you get more and more like that and it spreads, and thus we get cases like 85-90% in favor of PS4 on GameSpot's Twitter thing. That's probably what will ultimately set the course here, if enough people make their opinions clear to others so they understand the issues (nevermind the mob mentality forming...)
