Xbox 360: Best Launch Ever?

I think one of the biggest hurdles Sony and Nintendo will have to clear with respect to this Xbox 360 launch is convincing consumers that, even though the Xbox 360 is launching with good 3rd party support, they shouldn’t identify these titles exclusively with Xbox. For example, in this generation, the first console that will probably come to mind when thinking about Madden football isn’t Nintendo Game cube but Playstation 2. Customers typically associate certain games, even third-party titles, with specific consoles, at the expense of the competing brands who present these games equally as sound in terms of visuals and gameplay.

If Xbox 360 succeeds in doing this, it will be up to Sony and Nintendo marketing and PR to convince gamers otherwise.

Madden will indeed be the system seller (granted that EA can make it look beyond what it is now on XB/PS2). As for selling power, I dont remember many having a problem slurping up PS2 Madden 2001. This despite the PS1 version having all of the bells and whistles not found in the PS2 version.

Yeah but I think the PS2 Madden 2001 only hit like 700K overall. It wasn't huge like what we see now. Then again the PS2 era is when Madden rose to power. Plus MS will have more consoles out at launch than Sony did in 2001.

I'm sure some of these "launch window" games include January, Febuary, and March 2006.

The real system seller will be Madden 2006 methinks. Although I will question its selling power since nearly 4 million of current gen version will be sold by the time the 360 version comes out. Which means many madden players may just hold out until next year.
I actually think alot will hold out getting the current gen version for the next gen, certainly enough to sell alot of systems.

True indeed. Madden is crazy now. It's terrible :)

Mainstream will.

Tekken still sells and well that baffles me to no end. The games gets graphical upgrades every release but the point is it's still pure utter crap. If that crap can sell (to casual gamers), why not others (I love SC from Namco but I still think Tekken ~ poop on a stick). As much as I'm not really into DOA, I think it's a much better game than tekken.

I agree, the mainstream love their polygon titties. However re: Tekken / DoA, you're welcome to your opinion and all but the general consensus is that DoA is not really tournament caliber material. Hence why it never appears in any majors (Super Battle Opera, Evolution 200X, etcetera), whereas Tekken Tag / T5 does.

stealth edit: Tekken sells well because a) it looks good, and b) it's accessible. Whether it has a good deal of depth to it is sort of irrelevant to 90% of the people who buy it. I supposed the same applies to DoA ...

"Not officially, but there've been several hints of it and Konami already puts out W11 on Xbox, so...."

What hints? Because then it's just speculation. I'm sure it will eventually come to the 360, but I wanna know if it will be there close to launch.

in one of the MS interviews, they alluded to the importance of having Winning 11 on their next system in Euro/Japan, if I remember correctly. We'll hear much more about 360's Japan lineup in the coming months. Sonic 360, W11, Q's title, FFXI, DOA4, etc. will all likely be shown more thoroughly, imo.

I hope so. I want to see the 360 sell as much as it can to help support my one console X360 future. That way I can buy a PS3 sometime down the road for a couple of the exclusives but get all my main gaming content on X360!
