Apple would design the 360 better guys. -_-

well, apple could probably design everything better than most people. But an all apple world would be pretty damn sterile.

I kind of like the design aesthetically, but it needs to be at least half it's current size to appeal to Japanese gamers. I mean seriously, MS should have had Apple design it for them..

And holy hell, it reminds me of the dreamcast and white saturn.

Are you dumb? Like... really?

It's the same fucking size as PS2.

Apparently PS2 doesn't appeal to japanese gamer. Microsoft should just give up.

Well, if you make generalizations like that, why would gamers want a MS version of PS2 for next gen instead of a hot off the press PS3 design?

Here is the comparison that sscrew did when the images started to leak a couple of weeks ago. There is nothing wrong with that size (he roughly matched up the dvd trays). And as far as the look, well I don't really care. It will just sit in the cabinet under my tv.

Even in that picture isn't to scale.

Look at the size of the dvd drive.

they're pretty much to scale - if you take away the eject button from the tray. X360 + Ps2 would have about the same sized tray. It just looks longer with the button

Android, in that picture are they are using a 2.5" hard drive on top of the XBOX 360? That wouldn't be cost effective.. I doubt a 3.5" would fit in the measurements in that comparison pic.

Well the three consoles in the pic are scaled to each other correctly, but who cares if the pic itself is smaller than real life.

I was expecting something just a little larger than the PSTwo. That thing is just slightly smaller than the original XBox. Hope it isn't as heavy.

I mean, hell, if you are gonna try and imitate Apple with the curves and the white color, at least get some input from them. The original PS2 design is more than five years old, yet MS can't do any better?

Sony may have it's issues, but they make a nice looking console.

So its not the final x360 model???

launch is november. They have to decide to make the console soon. E3 is mid May. That gives them say 6 months to produce however many consoles for launch (pending production issues...etc etc). I'd say it is.

Controller looks pretty nice. Console is still fugly.
the "sucked-in" look is totally out of place. Maybe the designers really took the "lol xbox si hueg lol" jokes personally.

Looks like a flower vase from the front. Overall, its just vanilla. Not bad, not good, its just kinda... "there"

It's an improvment, but that's not saying much. It just seems like MS doesn't know what to do with it. Hey, lets but a GIANT FUCKING POWER BUTTON on it, that'll take up a lot of space! Yeah, huge memory cards would work too!

That little remote port thingy on the bottom of the controller is obivously for the XBL headset.

I hope you can get the 360 sans Tivo crap for less, because I doubt it will hold a candle to my HD-DVR.

My first impression was that it's an ugly looking system. But I have an Xbox and it's not exactly eye-candy, either. I don't buy video gaming systems based on their looks, anyhow.

Can't wait for more info at the MTV thing.

Oh yeah...this forum during E3 = teh d00m3d!!

EDIT: Now that I think about it, I shouldn't describe it as "ugly."

I expect PS3 to be about twice the size of the PSTwo. About the size I had expected the X360 to be. The biggest issue here is the thickness of the box. I'll have to hide it in the cabinet like I do the original XBox

The games should be fine, though. And the controller is an improvement..

PS3 couldn't be twice as large as PStwo even.

The heat generated by the CELL and the nvidia chips alone is too high for such a confined space.

Like the saying goes, opinions are like arseholes everyone got one. Its a game console it looks like that picture, its slightly smaller than a normal PS2, if you like it great if you voiced opinions that you hate the design well tough. If that means you won't buy it, that makes you sad, or you were never going to buy it in the first place, but decided to voice your opinon because you thought it mattered.

Can the sucked-in look be due to cooling issues, so that console can be stacked and have air vents top and bottom?

I hope you are wrong, but you could be right. Too bad, because the PSTwo is the best console design of all time...

FIXED, then AGREED.

The controller is brilliant functionality-wise, everything I wanted, however I really had wished they wouldn't insist on having fruity buttons and a space age design though. PlayStation controller is a great design but crap to use compared to Xbox.

Yeah, I was referring to functionality. I should have been more specific. I'm not fond of the white/green scheme with the colored buttons, either.

Thanks Android. I guess they could get a 2.5" 5400rpm HDD for under 50 dollars (US) in bulk by the time the XBOX 360 releases.

The whole Xbox 360 episode is like a chapter from Bad PR Management 101.

When you show new hardware, you make bloody sure that the first picture opinion leaders see is a studio shot that has been polished in Photoshop to look like the coolest thing ever - not a dodgy, badly lit picture from a bad angle.

When Nintendo first showed the final Nintendo DS for the first time, they released only this picture:

nintendo_ds_7.jpg

Check back the ZOMG THATS THE COOLEST THING EVER SINCE SP threads from that period - pretty good reactions for arguably the most hideous looking handheld of today.

Not to speak of the leaks of the controller, the name, the logo - a total anticlimax. Sure they could have imagined that if you arrange an event, people will leak a pic. Sure they could have made the focus groups camera-free.

Meanwhile, in other companies, cards are held very close to the chest and nothing has leaked. Prepare to be stunned in bit over a weeks time.

:lol good point

MS has awful leak control though

1) leaked e3 transcript
2) leaked console image
3) leaked controller image
4) leaked game info (some)

its like... lets just ruin the ENTIRE surprise before the big event. its definitely entertaining for its train wreck effect. Now if someone leaked the game pics, heads will roll.

Yeah, there's not much left at this point but to see the Xbox 360 games.

Meanwhile, with PS3 and Rev, youre going to be either totally shocked or amazed bc you never got to see it weeks ahead of time and form an opinion about it. It's going to be in your face. "Right then and there" type of reaction with hundreds of other gamers on websites.

With MS being such an experienced company, I seriously doubt that this happened by purpose..... Dont they have dedicated and trustworthy employees(grain of salt required :D )

compared to....

bunch of old prototypes

How about comparing to the first unveiled PS2 (identical to final), first unveiled Xbox (identical to final), first unveiled GameCube (identical to final), first unveiled Dreamcast (identical to final). In recent memory, the only console that has looked significantly different in unveiling than in launch has been Nintendo DS - still puzzles me.

I agree, leaks will affect MS greatly
They are also showing first, what will be left for E3 to get hyped about?

By the start of E3, Xbox 360 will have been old news on GAF

I'm really hyped for some Sony news now

Because

they saw PSP and they knew they had to redesign or face much ridicule. DS ver.1 was like a fisherprice toy and honestly a pretty fucking ugly object. It was laughable x 1000

Dammit you beat me to it. I was going to suggest that it would be nice if the the ring changes to different colors. :(

I like 3 things about the XBOX 360 design: The Hard Drive unit, the nice cooling vents near the Hard Drive unit, and the stealth bomber shape of the controller. I would like the controller more if it was two tone, you know, white on top and darker shade on bottom. Otherwise, my opinion on the console design, like others, is that it's nothing to get excited about.

Edit: My bad. Controller is two toned. :) Looked at the picture again.

In all honesty, v.2 isn't very different in that aspect. Bring on DS SP, with a good screen, thx bye.
