Xbox and Bethesda Showcase June 12th

Bring it on

I want them to be done and rid of Grounded so they can move onto Avowed with full force.

Grounded just doesn't have any appeal for me.

Have literally like 12 people working on it I believe they said, there's 200+ people at Obsidian would have no impact.

The only concern is how much time Starfield will get.

Since there's no separation between the MS and Bethesda show, there probably wont be a 15~ minute long Starfield presentation like Fallout 4. They'll wanna rush through things.
It will no doubt get the most time. The Fallout 4 presser was like 30 minutes and since these Xbox showcases are produced ahead of time they can trim that down easily.

What else does Xbox have that would need significant time dedicated to it? FM8 is obvious but beyond that I can't think of much else.

Every morning I wake up a little more excited because June 12th is a bit closer. I've never anticipated a game the way I am anticipating Starfield, it's absolutely exactly what I've always wanted in a video game. "Fallout in space" sold me the game the second the announced it. Based on the concept art alone I'm sure I'll love the universe they're creating and I can't wait to get into it.

There's also Forza Motorsport which if things go the way I think they'll go means they'll finally have adopted the model I've been saying they should have switched to years ago. Bi-annual releases are completely pointless now. A constantly evolving model makes much more sense for a game that will be using many of the same locations and vehicles from game to game. Constant small updates is a much better model for a racing sim. It works fabulously for the big PC sims which have updates for everything from cars to tracks, to the handling model itself in place of a new release. If the groundwork is solid there's no reason the game shouldn't be able to last a decade.

Goldeneye rumors are also exciting as it was my favorite game for years, there's InXile's current project, Indiana Jones, The Outer Worlds 2, what id has been working on since Doom Eternal released, potentially Fable, a new Elite Controller, etc. I doubt they'll show a lot of the things I'm hoping they do but if it's even just a fraction it should be a great show.

I'm curious to see if Turn 10 has partnered with a company for wheel support for FM8. Will they go with a similar Fanatec package like Sony did with GT7 or something different? Would be a missed opportunity if they don't do something, especially since they're completely reworking the physics.

FH5 plays so much better with a wheel so I'm hopeful FM8 gets some love there too. FM7 with a wheel was awful.

This 100%
Horizon 5 would've been a massive surprise if not for the leak.

Why would it have been a surprise? I was fully expecting it before the leak. Another Forza Horizon game was due since there was already an extra year between releases. Plus they always announce those at E3, and in the Motorsport reveal they had said it was "early in development" so clearly not ready yet.

Motorsport already had a trailer the year prior too.

Currently replaying Skyrim, and it has reminded me of how much I love Bethesda RPGs. Writing may be not the best, and the RPG mechanics are barebones, but man, getting lost in their worlds is the shit.

I just want to be blown out by Starfield. Todd said something about making this one more hardcore than Skyrim and Fallout 4, so here's hopping they deliver in that front.

I wonder which "roles" we'll have available. Maybe instead of the Conjuration magic school we'll be able to create robots to do shit for us? I don't think the game will have magic powers ala Mass Effect, so I'm curious to see which gameplay alternatives there are to "shoot thing" or "punch thing" when it comes to "kill thing".

Can't wait for this!

I'm thrilled Microsoft is still doing their show even with E3 being canceled. Nintendo and Microsoft keeping things going!

People like to poke fun at Bethesda, but they really do deliver experiences you don't get anywhere else.

I just hope they don't try reinventing the wheel with character building like they did in Skyrim and Fallout 4. Character building in games should never abandon its pen and paper roots because it works and gives the player something to get invested in. Dumbing things down too much like we saw in Fallout 4 makes the experience way too shallow.

I'm still just so cautious about MS hype.

Will THIS be the year they really have a slate of upcoming exciting titles? Will they then keep that up?

I've had patience as I understand their purchase spree happened right around some studio overhauls / game reboots, etc... but it's been 3-4+ years now since the "great Xbox reset" and things should start really happening more quickly.

But then you get COVID.. and examples of MS having games that come late/incomplete (Halo Infinite) and I'm left just not letting myself get hyped.

Except for Starfield.. PUT IT IN MY VEINS!! CRAM IT IN MY DICKHOLE!! SOUND ME STARFIELD.... SOUND MEEEEEE!

Doubtful. I'm expecting 2023 to be the year when things start coming together. It's all about Starfield and FM8 this year which ain't bad at all. Also Hellblade but I couldn't care less about that.

Perfect Dark and Fable gameplay are my most anticipated and with both games stuck in minor development hell seems unlikely we'll get anything juicy.

Avowed gameplay would be nice but Starfield would totally dwarf that. Probably best to save it for later IMO.

Yeah I'm with you; by THIS year I really mean "does it start end of this year, then will we start to see games outside of holiday as well next year"?

They've got so many teams now anything is possible, but it feels like MS bought all of these companies and then sort of blank checked them and maybe slowed them down a bit (not necessarily a bad thing, but maybe some projects are too ambitious now.)

Trying to remember the last Bethesda showcase that actually delivered on great games in a relatively timely manner. I remember a bunch of employees talking about how great is to work there. "The creative journey is great!" Then nothing of substance materializes.

I'm not sold on Starfield yet. Bethesda haven't really struck gold since Skyrim. FO4 was okay, but IMO nowhere near as good as FO3 and the less said about FO76 the better.

I'll still play it, but I need to see a lot more in order for me to get hyped.

For me even a "not striking gold" Bethesda RPG will instantly be my most played game.. as was FO4.. which yeah, it's no Skyrim, or in many ways.. no FO3/New Vegas... but I just love the Bethesda RPG formula so much, the scope of the games, etc. that I still get excited.

FO76? Honestly I think it's kinda fun haha.. I haven't played in a while, but after a year of patches/content the game was pretty fucking fun when I played it last year.

Still 100% doesn't scratch the SP Bethesda RPG itch but as far as online games go it's a blast, and actually does manage to have that "Bethesda RPG big map" feel.. it's the best Fallout map IMO

Yeah hard to say. Coalition is due for a new game and Josh Sawyer's new RPG should be nearing completion. What else? id's next game maybe? Can't think of many more.

InXile is early on in their next project. PD, Everwild and Fable are in development hell. 343, Tango and Arkane all dropped games recently. Still seems like we're in that transition phase.

Yeah for sure, theyve spent the past two years leaning heavily on cg trailers and the indie scene, now its time for them to put up or shut up. Last year was a good start with flight sim and forza horizon 5…and the early access halo infinite, but they need more than that if they want to compete with god of war or horizon. I think forza motorsport and starfield will be a great one two hit combo. Hopefully next year they will have big game releases at a more consistant cadence

The physics in their game engine is already excellent, I'm hoping they can iterate it further and add combat elements like harpoons, rope tethers, gravity guns, electrical blasts (which conduct across metal), fire (which spreads across fabrics), that type of thing. That sort of stuff would be bonkers with the emergent gameplay of a Bethesda RPG.

Fable is in development hell? Where you getting this from exactly?

Somehow it became accepted that the ideal system for character building was one without classes, where you 'can choose any skill and create the character YOU want". Which is bullshit because that destroys replayability and the fun of multiple playthroughs.

Hope they announce things that are closer to release and not just CGI trailers for 2025/26 games.. My Series X is dusty as fuck.

I'm looking forward to the Deathloop GOTY trailer. Hoping they do a deep dive for like 90 minutes.

Motorsport already had a trailer the year prior too.

Possibly people who weren't paying attention. There was never a chance Motorsport was first when they called it "early in development". It was obvious to me from the moment it was announced.

Lots of people commented the same. So it definitely wasn't everyone who thought Motorsport was first.

Not to mention that Horizon is always announced the June before it releases. So no surprises there.

I think that game's vaporware unless someone confirms otherwise lol.

You don't sign a deal with Disney and make nothing out of it. Todd Howard's a huge Indiana Jones nut and has been trying to pitch an Indiana Jones game for well over a decade now.

Zero chance of it being vaporware. Might be too soon to show anything other than CGI this year.

Games I would definitely expect to see,

Starfield
Redfall
Forza
Scorn
Hellblade 2

I'll be disappointed if we don't see gameplay for any of those. Everything else is up in the air, with UE5 only just having a full release unless some games aren't using all the features then I doubt we'll see anything from Perfect Dark or Everwild.
Would be happy to be wrong though.

Would not be shocked at all If we don't see any substantial amount of scorn again until it's out. Game just isn't big enough to justify it when MS has so much else going on

That would be tits.

I don't know if I expect that kind of gameplay from Bethesda, although maybe this time they've been helped by other studio when it comes to combat, just like id Software helped with the gunplay in Fallout 4.

I just want proper RPG mechanics this time around. Perks are fun, but I'd prefer the old, more customizable style.

Can not wait to be blown away by Forza

I don't think I've ever heard them talk about what they'll be showing at the next showcase during a current one so I think you'll be OK.
It's a meme. Phil says "just wait until next e3", every single E3. Seems as there won't be an E3 this year, he will have to say xbox and BEthesda showcase. it's just a joke pal, don't take shit too seriously.
