Xbox Live Fall 2012 Dashboard Public Beta - Signup Now

Let me guess, you can't use internet explorer without a Gold subscription? I have one month to enjoy the luxury of browsing on a console.

Just to let people know who got in, console registration is now available.
Have to download app again to register your console.
Just goto Product Keys on the beta page and Request New Product Key.
Should give you a redeem code for 2012 Fall Console Registration App.

Thanks.

Running the registration app on 360 now, it says: "The program is expected to last for a period of approximately 3 months or until the Fall 2012 release cycle is completed. Consoles registered via this process typically take 1-2 business days to be registered to receive pre-release updates. Even once registered a pre-release update may not be available yet."

That's quite a lengthy beta period compared to past betas. Weren't they usually like 2-3 weeks?

Got an email from Microsoft about it, 3 steps and all. But nothing seems to be up and linked yet.

Try this link, not sure if it will work: https://connect.microsoft.com/XboxLIVEUpdate/ProductKeys

That's weird, I went to connect site and signed in and they have section for product keys on the left.

All the links they sent me in the email were broken, but I managed to find the right page through clicking through the connect site.

But all regged in. We'll see how it goes.

Just on redeem code on your xbox 360 dash.
Hit guide button hit LB few times til you see Redeem Code and enter it there.
Or whack it into above link.

Goddammit.

I'd take anything that might fix how SLOW menus are on my 360 now. Geez, I only have 210 GB of games and demos installed...

I have two questions:

1) The Xbox is shared by another user. Obviously this updates the entire console - how will it effect him? Will he still be able to log on to older machines?

Which links in to my next one

2) my profile is on a USB stick. I often go between two or three different machines. If I do the update, am I forced to play on that console until September? I know I can register up to three consoles, but putting them all in the beta isn't my call - and if I did, it'd go back to question one on how it would effect the users.

I've already signed up and redeemed, but haven't downloaded the app yet.

Update is live. X360 IE is better than the PS3 browser, anyway. Pins are best thing about update so far.

Wow that was fast. I never got a chance to input the code on my console last night, hopefully it's not too late when I get home today.

How's the speed of the dashboard? Performance improvements was supposed to be one of the features.

Got my code today and put it in, but I was halfway awake so I didn't think to actually check for anything new or different yet.

So the disc tray option got even smaller and the ads got bigger, I'm buying a PS4 next generation. Fuck this shit.
Let me know why the disk tray icon would need to be bigger and I'll maybe not laugh at this.

Anyway, does anyone have two Xboxes connected to the same display? I think the dashboard text has been softened a little. Probably my imagination.

No update yet, but I only used the app today, so it might take a while to register. Regardless, it's really quick for the beta to roll out. Looking forward to finally pin my favourites to the home menu.

Not enough feigned outrage for me.

Seriously, this update makes navigating the most used/visited parts of the interface MUCH easier so far. All you need to do is press up or down once or twice for the major destinations. 99% of the ads are direct links to purchase, download, or enter promotions directly dealing with marketplace items. Also, games marketplace is much better laid out, too. Speed is better, so far...overall, a big step up from pre-update.

Just called my wife and had her check for me. Updating now.

Part of me wonders if they hit the switch a little early by accident, so I wanted to make sure I got it before it was taken down. :P

I just updated (UK). I like it. IE is really good, although I doubt I'll ever use it as I don't really need a browser on a console. It's an optional app anyway. I like the My Pins thing and will definitely use that. The tiles layout looks better IMO and there are some other minor GUI changes - everything looks bigger and some things are better laid out. The only thing that looks out of place is the TV tab as it's still only 2 tiles high and the tiles haven't been made bigger. The recommendations thing is a good idea, but it's recommending games I already have so thumbs down for that.

The people who whine about ads will be no doubt using this as an excuse to whine again, but it adds more functionality and improves certain things, so overall I thing it's a good update and obviously it's still a beta.

Needs Flash support to evolve into more convenient SeXbox, though.

You can set it to load mobile sites which is nice.

Really impressed with this compared to the ps3 one. Just realized no tabs tho, which sucks.

(neogaf mobile needs to add san-serif fonts to the css file)
