Xbox Live Fall 2012 Dashboard Public Beta - Signup Now

Not enough feigned outrage for me.

Seriously, this update makes navigating the most used/visited parts of the interface MUCH easier so far. All you need to do is press up or down once or twice for the major destinations. 99% of the ads are direct links to purchase, download, or enter promotions directly dealing with marketplace items. Also, games marketplace is much better laid out, too. Speed is better, so far...overall, a big step up from pre-update.

But...ADS. MOTHERFUCKING ADS.

I don't think you understand the severity of the situation - ADS. ADS. A.D.S. ADS.

I don't understand, go into an Xbox dashboard thread and everyone is against you if you complain. Go into a thread about which system has the best GUI and everyone says the Xbox one is too bloated and that they should bring back the blades.

video marketplace now built into the dashboard, no longer a separate app.

Music is still a separate app, though.

Game marketplace is reorganized into featured, arcade, on demand, indie, add-ons, demos, and extras categories.

Your complaints was moronic. The play disc isn't smaller, they've just made better use of the free space and added a new window that makes browsing the marketplace and your content so much easier and intuitive.

Also, complaining is one thing, saying you're buying a PS4 next gen because you wrongly perceived a window to be smaller is moronic and worthy of mocking.

No one is stopping someone from complaining. I only offered my personal experience with the new interface, but also as a more useful counterpoint to yours since it doesn't go into worthless and unbalanced hyperbole. The ads are never going away for any of the future consoles. Free interfaces will ensure that Sony's next one will push their share, as PSN already does in its current iteration. If you're counting tiles that simply tell people that things are available to buy and link directly to them, you should start giving up on console interfaces, then.

You're generalizing with your use of "everyone". There is a group that loves the blades and wants them back, and there are also those who support ads no matter what. The two groups are clearly not the same.

Could you just try and take it down a few notches from a 9, to maybe a 6?

You get really riled up in your defense of ads, or "info blasts" as you like to call them. We get it, you like them. A lot.

Nah.

Come into a thread complaining about a window/tile being smaller when it's not and then saying he's buying a PS4 because of it?

C'mon.

Anyway, what's not to like about content related promotional material? It makes no sense to hate those, they are there for you, to make you aware of what new content is available. Seems silly to complain about those. Complain about non related ads all you want and I'll be right there to back you up.

Lets not let another dashboard thread devolve into another ad debate. They don't seem much different in this update, so lets keep to the update itself. This is an "Xbox Live Fall 2012 Dashboard Public Beta" thread, not a "What do you think of the dashboard?" thread. Unless, of course, there is something new in the update worth complaining about; then go right ahead.

Favorites in IE show up in your Pinned folder on the home tab. I guess that's convenient?

About to test how long it takes to populate my Game Library.

Edit: My game library popped in 2 seconds after I selected it, right after starting up my Xbox.

How big your library as that sounds like a massive improvement. I currently have 102 games in my GL and it takes roughly 10 seconds to populate. Seems to get slower with each game I add.

Could you try testing after exiting a game? Mine loads instantly on a fresh start but takes an eternity when i go back to the dash after running anything...

So do you have to do something to get this? I was accepted into the beta but just turned on my xbox and it just loaded the usual dash.

I have 106 games in library and it takes less than 1 second to load.
Loading the menu for a game from the library takes a little bit longer (2-3 seconds).
Overall dashboard is much faster after the update.

Click this. https://connect.microsoft.com/XboxLIVEUpdate

Go the left side, and click "product keys". Enter that code into your Xbox like any other code. Download the app. Enter the app to register your console.

Then you'll likely have to wait a day or so for it to update your console when you turn it on.

I downloaded the app using the key and ran it to register my console. The update didn't pop up instantly but I'm hoping it will be ready by the time I get home from work.

check the email account you used to sign up. Follow the link and redeem a product key to download the beta acceptance program on your console. Once downloaded, run it and your console will be registered to receive the update.

hell yeah. Thanks. :D

Interesting. I always thought it was an issue with pulling data from the slow HDD along with flushing the memory used by the game being played. I wonder how they have it loading so fast now.

Not that I'm asking you to do this, but I wonder if it still loads as fast after actually fully loading up a game. I doubt the boot up sequence for a game takes up the full amount of memory, so there may be less to flush out. I'll have to check when I get home.
