Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Thread: Everyone wants it, no one uses it

Oh boy, they better curate it goddamn. If they flood the store with those fucking Flappy copies I'll throw the console in the bin.
I just know it's gona be a mess. They already updated the store on the PC and it changed a little bit but not enough to filter out the crap

Why do you guys think they added the side stripes for the Xbox One titles now? Differentiate between games built for the Xbox Two in the near future?

I suspect it's purely to make converting box art into a square PIN shape more easily

OG Xbox back compatible please.

Please.

For what its worth, here is the most-recent comment that I have found regarding making original Xbox games work on Xbox One. (November 2015)

Mike Ybarra:
"We're not looking at original Xbox games on Xbox One yet," he said. "Right now the focus is making more Xbox 360 games work. [It would be] certainly very challenging. Getting Xbox 360 games to work was incredibly challenging and really a multi-year engineering investment. Going all the way back to the original certainly would challenge the team."
There is still a chance, however. Ybarra added that the Xbox backwards compatibility engineering team enjoys taking on new challenges. "I'm sure they would love that one as an opportunity to go look at," he said.

He also said he shot a video with Major Nelson, I dunno seems like it could be a video for an announcement, like a new addition to BC like Original Xbox games or something....I dunno, my guess is they do have something planned.
That could be completely unrelated to BC too. It is more likely to be a video for E3 that highlights and explains new OS features included in the Anniversary update. I'm guessing it has more to do with Cortana, background music, and a My Games and Apps redesign.

I'm honestly surprised that DuckTales is BC. I figured that getting any licensed games to be BC would involve going through some sort of license hell (or license red tape, if you will).

LEGO Pirates went BC, LEGO Star Wars Complete, now DuckTales. Go Disney!

Edit: Just bought Epic Mickey 2 and LEGO Indiana Jones 2... here's for hoping!

I wonder how much MS is making just on pure speculation that a game might go BC lol

Wow, I totally forgot that those were made BC. Then again, the only LEGO game I have is a free Star Wars one that came with my 360 HDD (LEGO Star Wars III, I believe).

Edit: I'm 90% certain that it was actually Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy. Wait, no...I guess I was right the first time.

Yeah, Lego Star Wars III was bundled with Xbox HDDs for years.

Speaking of which, they really need to get it up on BC. Lego TFA (i.e., "Lego Star Wars IV") comes out in just over a month and I'd like to play III first. :P

Food for thought...
There has been speculation that we'll receive some extra games to celebrate the 3rd anniversary of gold, well...
What if those games that leaked a couple of weeks ago are the surprise? There was Ryse, Red Dead Redemption and Bioshock Infinate and 1 other... Various people surmised it to be a fake list immediately on account of the fact that infinite has been gold already but if they are bonus games it really doesn't matter if it's been gold before as we're not technically paying for them.

I honestly believe that original list is genuine, but they were the bonus anniversary titles... Perhaps.

I'm pretty sure they will add surprise GWG during E3, especially RDR!

I Think its worth all the hassle to get Xbox Original BC on Xbox One. Most of us has sold their Xbox Original games, but re-buying them and increase the library on the Xbox One even further is a nice argument to get Xbox One.

I agree. How many people missed out on the genius of KoToR? Especially with how huge Star Wars is now MS could advertise that the 2 best Star Wars games are playable on Xbox One. Just need to get KoTor and Republic Commando up and working.

People forget how crap upscaled 480p (4x3) will look on our 60" HDTV's. including the fact that they don't have achievements of any kind. I really don't think it's worth the effort myself.

What if one of the requirements to add Xbox Original games to BC is also including achievements? Even though people most people wont play Xbox original games, its still nice to "have" BC feature.

I completely understand where you're coming from.

I tried playing KotOR again on my original Xbox last year and laughed at how enormous the interface icons are on the screen. Seriously, when you realize that its not natively widescreen, and then the interface takes up the entire corners....the actual amount of in-game action on-screen is rather humorous. And lets not forget the fact that the text is not in HD.

Having said all that, I think all of us have a handful of games that we would absolutely love to have on our new console. For instance, I loved RollerCoaster Tycoon on Xbox. Loved how well the interface translated, was surprised at how well the controller worked with it, etc. I want that on my Xbox One - even if its a fullscreen image (not widescreen).

And if the team manages to get original Xbox emulation working, they would be able to rightly claim that all Xbox games - past, present, & future - are backward & forward compatible thanks to the shared Windows 10 backbone.

Beyond Good & Evil HD had an update. 531MB :s

I check older titles out for updates every week or so and haven't seen anything for a while now BAM. Wonder why

Any chance of Toy Story 3? Looks fun.

Dude, this game is really good. I got it as a gift from my mom the christmas it came out and ended up playing it more than most of the games that holiday. It far exceeds its sudo sequel that was Disney Infinity. Id be curious if it still holds up. Hope for BC.

SSX (reboot) is coming today.

I'm a little surprised Microsoft isn't holding these back to drop during their e3 speech. Seems like that would have been a great time to unveil black ops and ssx. But maybe they will still do that with some titles. I know everyone is expecting them to do that for red dead.

Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, Mass Effect 2/3, Dragon Age 1/2, and Tales of Vesperia and I will rejoice.

They promised to drop games when they are ready.

Microsoft changed the header on 360 digital boxes about 4 times last gen, they like to do such things for no reason.

I realize it's highly unlikely but id be really interested in seeing some numbers that some of these back compat games are doing. Like, if love to see Activision say how many copies of Black Ops they sold digitally once BC was announced for it.

If only MS released top sellers like Sony does for PS it'd at least give us a rough estimate

It's not the same, but I heard someone who would know say it went from 13k concurrent players to 84k when BC showed up.
