Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Thread: Everyone wants it, no one uses it

You know what I really miss, the realtime achievement tracking etc xbox one games has. I'd love for them to implement 360 achievements into the guide achievement tracker with all the xbone one features aswell, It's already tracking it for when to unlock achievements so shouldn't be that hard to do?

Can I play SSX as a "racer" like the 1080 series, or do I need to pull of tricks/stunts? I'm never good at memorizing button combos.

You need to do tricks to get boost, but the trick system is so simple you really don't have to worry about it. Racing was all I did back in the day.

I'm a little surprised Microsoft isn't holding these back to drop during their e3 speech. Seems like that would have been a great time to unveil black ops and ssx. But maybe they will still do that with some titles. I know everyone is expecting them to do that for red dead.

Big E3 BC announcement is gonna be that they're porting the emulator to the Win 10 store.

I'm legitimately starting to believe that they're saving Red Dead Redemption for E3 to blow the roof off by announcing RDR available on BC AND Xbox 360 BC on Windows 10 via the Xbox Dashboard.
"We are super excited to bring Red Dead Redemption to PC exclusively for Windows 10!!!11!"
That's like a solid 60-second pause for clapping and cheering right there.

They promised to drop games when they are ready.

I'm surprised to see SSX for this very reason.

We've seen the links showing that several Xbox 360 games from EA being marketed as playable on Xbox One - starting on June 14th.

So why is SSX - another EA game - suddenly available now? I assumed EA was waiting to announce several new BC titles at their show on June 12th.

Yea guys if you don't have SSX already and you have EA Access, I'd wait for E3 because I'm thinking EA will add a bunch of titles like Mass Effect 2/3, Mirror's Edge, SSX...etc to the Vault.

That's a really good point.

This will be the first E3 with Backward Compatibility as a full-go. This will be the first time EA has had the spotlight at their show with a chance to really impress people with the value proposition of EA Vault.
We've already seen them add some PC games recently; putting some of those same titles on Xbox One via the Vault seems entirely possible (or even probable).

17 days 'til we find out. Sunday, June 12th.

I would cry with tears of joy if they did this. Seriously.

Haha, can I play it on easy mode and just scream down the mountain and look at the pretty scenery?

I don't remember an easy mode but all tricks are done by holding the right stick (or face buttons) in one direction or two directions, so LEFT, LEFT>DOWN, LEFT>RIGHT and LEFT>UP are all the tricks that start with left for example, easy enough right. Once you get into tricky mode you get around 20 seconds of unlimited boost where you don't even have to worry about tricks. The dynamic of finding the best lines to ride and finding out where to trick to get in and out of tricky is what made SSX 2012 the most satisfying racing game on the 360 for me, so I'd recommend embracing the trick system in your racing habits.

Here a video of how it works in practice, notice the moments where he does tricks to activate tricky and super tricky: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWJWuEmXySE

SSX (reboot) is coming today.

Dammit! I was out of the country when it was GwG. I told my brother to add the GwG titles to my download history, but for whatever reason, he didn't get SSX (though he did get whatever the other game was that month). I would have loved to try it out, since I've never actually played an SSX game before.

Perfect. Thanks for this!

Followed by 60 solid days of bitching and whining about how it runs at 720p, is limited to 30fps, is exclusive to the Win 10 app store, etc. Personally I'd love to have it, as I don't have any delusions of a real RDR PC port ever coming to Steam.

If e3 comes and goes and theres no crackdown bc Announcement i might very well jusy sell the one and wait for the updated verison its legit all i want is that and the second one ive came so close to buying a cheap 360

Regarding all the Mass Effect DLC getting discounts on PC and the trilogy being made available on EA Access recently Is it safe to assume that ME 2 & 3 will become available soon?

Looking at the list of games alongside their dates added, it seems that since March 17th the longest span between additions has been 7 days. Wonder if they'll be able to keep that up. In theory it should be getting easier and easier for them, but I suppose no matter how fast they improve the emulator, they're still going to be bottlenecked by testing.

It'll be nice, but 360s will also continue to work. People still play on Atari 2600's.

I think people forget this. I'm pretty big on playing old games (just wrapped up the original PS1 Tomb Raider for the thousandth time last night). Frankly, I like the backwards compatibility because it lets me give the ol' 360 workhorse a rest. She's getting mighty slow. I need to buy a new one before they disappear from stores.

with the first being some deus ex game

Haha, yeah. One of those hundreds of Deus Ex games that came out last gen. Who can keep track of them all?

Exactly. If I want to play a 360 BC game, I can just press a button, while the alternative is to power up my old 360, switch inputs on my TV and receiver, and start the game from there. Not to mention that it's also much slower to look up games on the 360 compared to the Xbox One. The difference between a few seconds and a few minutes means that I never power up my 360 these days.

In theory, I like what you're saying.

But I think the bulk of PC gamers would instead take that moment to complain about having to use Microsoft's PC gaming service to play the game....even if Microsoft did something crazy like figure out controller emulation on keyboard and mouse.

So is anyone else unable topurchase Backwards Compatible titles in the Xbox One Gamestore? For the past week or so whenever I select Show Price I get an error message.

I would cry tears of joy! To play Redemption in 4K, DREAMS. I hope that when/if the new Red Dead comes out, it launches everywhere not just UWP.

Why do people think that backwards compatibility would come to PC? Truly doesn't make any sense.

Anyways...You do know that the original rendering size didn't change for BC?

So there is no "Render in 4K"

So have no fear...there will be no tears

if BC games are UWA then aren't too far from being avaliable in W10. MS gains instantly a bunch of games for it's store and publishers get another storefront for their products. Certainly for many people steam or other storefronts are more appealing due to price and performance but I think W10 store works in a different market than those other storefronts, it's more casual.

Yea like the others said, in this case it would be upscaled, you can't change the rendering resolution for BC games on Xbox as you can for emulators on PC.

Pretty big If.

(Hint: BC came out before windows 10 came out for the One)

Could be updated to UWP though. If they aren't UWP now they probably will be in future, dunno where I read it but I think I read somewhere it's gonna be mandatory to make games UWP on xbox one? if so I doubt BC is exempt from that.

I don't even mean BC for PC through an emulator- I'm dreaming they'd say "RDR is now BC on XBO. And for the first time, available digitally on PC." (even if it is through UWP)

With an announcement for the new Red Dead available on all PC stores.

ONE CAN DREAM. Not upscaling the resolution from the original release, we're talking new proper resolutions for a PC port.

But I'm derailing. Let me dream.

Why would they do that? What is the return of investment?

Easy scalability across devices (future xbox's)? all console/xbox exclusive games on their win10 store only?

I think we can all agree RDR will do more for the Win10 store than probably any exclusive will so there's that too, and I doubt Rockstar is gonna say no to all the millions they're gonna make.

Making BC a UWP and putting it on the Win10 store will have a far greater return on investment than will on xbox, they'd be smart to do it for the $ and win10 store push. Idk if they will put BC on win10 though, if they can keep it locked down to prevent piracy I think they probably should.

This is also assuming it's as easy as MS says ("1 code works on all"), too. But who knows.
