Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Thread: Everyone wants it, no one uses it

Duly noted.

Oh and how are the killstreaks. Are they as varied as MW2's?

Even more so.

MW3 uses the Strike Package system, which splits up killstreak/scorestreak progression into three different categories: Assault, Support, and Specialist.

The Assault Package contains many useful killstreaks aimed towards getting you more kills and executing huge game-shifting plays (sometimes), and functions exactly like killstreaks in MW2 did, i.e. the streak resets upon death. You have to stay alive and build your streak to get more rewards, and both kills and objective captures/defenses build your streak.

The Support Package works a bit differently. Most of its rewards focus more on supporting the team--better UAVs than the Assault Package, stationary area denial (remote controlled sentry turret), high-health defensive unit (Support juggernaught with riot shield and pistol), etc. The streak, however, does NOT reset upon death. It continuously builds up and up, requiring people to continuously try and get to objectives, to get into the fray, in order to get up to the higher-tiered streak rewards. This is the package that allows people who aren't as good at the game still contribute to the team in a meaningful way, and the package that divided a lot of people on the game.

The Specialist Package works more like the Assault Package, resetting upon death and focused more towards confident players. However, where it differs is the rewards: instead of gunships, care packages, etc., each reward tier gives you another perk of your choice on top of the three you get to slot in per class. 2 kills gets you your first additional perk choice, 4 kills gets you your second, 6 kills gets you your third, and 8 kills activates ALL perks in the game simultaneously. The difficulty with this package, however, is the double-edged sword that it inherently is. You obviously become extremely potent, but often power goes to the head, and you die a lot quicker if you aren't careful. Maintaining the streak takes a lot of restraint and patience.

Finally, all Packages come with the MOAB as the ultimate reward at 25 kills/points. However, unlike the Tactical Nuke from MW2, the MOAB does /not/ immediately end the game. Rather, it kills all members of the enemy team at once, activates an EMP for 1 minute, rather than the normal 30 seconds, and the team who got the MOAB gets double XP for the rest of the game.

Oh, and the best part is, the Strike Packages are dependent on the Custom Class. Unlike MW2, where killstreaks were independent of the class, Strike Packages are an additional category to choose from in your classes. You can have an Assault Class with the Assault Package, and also have a Support class with the Support Package, etc. Frees up classes for a lot more experimentation.

I noticed that there seemed to be quite a lot of players on CoD: BLOPs recently when i played it with BC. Is the games multiplayer actually safe to play, though? I remember trying to play WaW a few years back and it was filled with hackers and modded servers and i've read they're basically all like that now. Wouldn't playing on modded servers count as cheating?

The people who modded the game were and still are the vast minority of those who play. The vast majority play the game the way it was meant to be played, which means the majority of lobbies are hacker-free. As the population went up, so, too, did the percentage of the active population who hacked go down.

If i did end up getting put on a modded server, would that mean my XBL would be banned though? It's whether that would count as cheating or not that i'm worried about.

I've been on modded lobbies before and never got banned. It definitely ruined the experience, though. If you find a modded lobby, figure out who the host is and report them. It's the best thing you could do.

Oh! And a side-note for Modern Warfare 3, guy who asked. Ever since the last double XP weekend way back before Advanced Warfare launched, Infinity Ward never bothered to turn it off. The game's been in double XP for three years now and it doesn't look to change any time soon.

I already get reported and sent messages for having the gamertag "Hacked". It would most likely be worse if I ended up in a modded lobby...

Yes I did try VPN (Vypr and ZenMate) even with different Browsers and I changed my consoles region but nothing actually worked. You know: GERMANY!

Do you have a VPN that will allow you to set the country you are connecting to? I'm in China and have a 360 UK Xbox account, I have to set VPN to the UK to download games to my Xbox One that it won't allow directly to download to the 360 because of region restrictions in China, but they will show up on my Xbox One backwards compatibility list and I can download them.

If I set my VPN to USA I can't purchase it so I have to use UK. Perhaps you should try setting to another European country and see if it works.

That's hilarious.
"Hey joe did you switch off the double XP?"
"Eh, maybe I did maybe I didn't"
"Works for me"

Wow! Just looked and I didnt realize I bought MoH Airborne digitally on the 360. Downloading now to the One

I just realized none of the Dead Rising games are backwards compatible. DR4 comes out in a week and I was thinking about booting up DR1 or 2, but I really don't feel like getting the 360 out. :(

That's because they re-issued the first 2 (I don't think they're remasters) for the X1.

Works for me too, heh. Since the level cap non-prestige is 80, shit would take even longer if it wasn't double XP all the time.

I hope it never gets turned off.

EA, if you're going continue to torture boxing fans by never releasing any new Fight Night games, please give us Fight Night Champion XB1 back compat.

I will literally pay money for it.

Literally.

I honestly couldn't believe that I never purchased Pure digitally. I did have two physical copies so maybe that's why but I normally converted any physicals to digitals but I just went through the purchase history and sure enough, not there. With that said, it's a sight to behold when you put the "Full Games" list into Excel and see you've purchased 266 games digitally just on 360/BC.

Apparently, I didn't own Oblivion digitally either...oh well, I actually really did/do enjoy Astropop so there's that.

I tried all kinds of countries but I always get the same error. I assume because my sub is german they don't allow me to get the game as it is not allowed in Germany. As I bought Gears Ultimate & Gears 4 I already got the codes for every other game in the series except the Gears 2 code. As said earlier in the thread there is one workaround that will work for sure: Putting in a disk and play it from there. Not as much convenient as a digital copy but no issue at all.

That sucks :/

An inconvenience but nothing more :) Okay a little bit more inconvenient as I just found out that I sold my hardcopy of the game some years ago ... sniff

Well, Oblivion doesn't seem to run much if any better than on 360 but the loading seems improved at least. Had to bump up the in-game brightness a bit from my 360 saves. Still nice to have on XB1. It seemed a lot of people were playing and posting screenshots and such last night. The screenshots I took were darker looking than they were in-game. I'm not sure if that's common with BC games or not.

That looks really nice. How is Oblivion, anyway? I played it a bit in 2005 and haven't since. I have Skyrim SE in the mail, is it worth bothering with Oblivion?

I installed the dlc via disc two on my goty edition oblivion, but when you go to the in-game main menu and then extras, the dlc doesn't show up as installed. That happen to anyone else?

How are the 'Loading area' pauses when out freeroaming?

Oblivion will seem clunky and primitive looking compared to Skyrim. I loved Oblivion back in the day so I'll always view it through nostalgia-goggles but in truth it is very dated. I still feel like it's a good game but you need to know what you are getting into and be able to put up with inconsistent framerates and ugly character models. The PC version runs great and can be modded to look better but it's not very couch friendly unless you're willing to use the Steam controller. I played the BC 360 version for several hours last night and enjoyed myself, though.

They still pop up occasionally but go away very quickly. There is still some stutter as it loads new assets.

I must have put around 200 hours into Oblivion when I played it around 8 years ago. But looking at it now it looks like janky dogshit :(

I would love them to remake it.

Cheers. Will give it a go at the weekend I think.. If I can tear myself away from Skyrim!

Wow the class system seems pretty ambitious.

LOL at double XP for four years.
