Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Thread: Everyone wants it, no one uses it

Ninja Gaiden 3 was on the 360 spinner

If it's true BC it will be difficult to add interesting achievements to games that didn't have them in the first place. Maybe they can hack something (Sony has a patent about it though), but it would most probably be progression achievements ("finish chapter X") rather than complex ones (defaeat a boss without being hit, upgrade weapon to max level, ...)

Yeah a lot of that stuff requires hooks in the code of the game itself that just doesn't exist already.

Just for predictions sake, these were the games available digitally back during the old "Xbox Originals" thing on Xbox 360:

Amped: Freestyle Snowboarding
Black
BlowOut
Burnout 3: Takedown
Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex
Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge
Destroy All Humans!
Destroy All Humans! 2
Doom 3
Dreamfall: The Longest Journey
Fable
Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy
Fuzion Frenzy
Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows
Grabbed by the Ghoulies
Grand Theft Auto III
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
Guilty Gear XX #Reload
Halo: Combat Evolved
Intellivision Lives!
Jade Empire
Max Payne
Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne
Metal Arms: Glitch in the System
Ninja Gaiden Black
Psychonauts
Raze's Hell
Sega Soccer Slam
Sid Meier's Pirates!
Stubbs the Zombie in Rebel Without a Pulse
The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory
Ty the Tasmanian Tiger
Zapper: One Wicked Cricket

I think a lot of these you can expect.

I wonder if the age of original Xbox games (and licenses) could mean an initial focus on exclusives or MS made titles. Would really like that as they're still dragging their feet on key 360 exclusives (Ace Combat, Crackdown) .

We need the Skate 3 of that generation though... Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2X! The definitive edition of the best game in the series.

This is the only reason why I am willing to plug my Xbox One back up and play some of the titles I missed out on. Looking forward to playing Blinx: The Time Sweeper if they end up making it backwards compatible.

Definitely isn't farfetch since they just announced it!

The one moment that actually made me jump out my seat, so so happy.

Being able to play KOTOR and Republic Commando on Xbox One X needs to be a thing.

Being able to use our original discs is so awesome. Microsoft really deserves props for how they've been handling backwards compatibility.

Good news.I want shenmue2,conker,operation flashpoint,thief,deus ex,all the rainbow six,all the ghost recon,all the splinter cells,call of cthulhu.

"Your original Xbox discs will work. Digital licenses will carry over. AND you can system-link play across all three generations." - Albert Penello

System-link across all three generations? That makes it sound like they are using the same emulation we got on the 360 and moving it to the One.

Hope they sort out some of the problems first though. The EU version of Panzer Dragoon Orta wasn't even playable from a certain level (lvl 3, I think) onwards

No Live support is completely understandable, but mutes my enthusiasm just a bit. More than anything I would've loved to play Unreal Championship 2, Amped 2, Rallisport 2, Crimson Skies, Mechassault, et all, with my mates. There are tunnel programs that I suspect will still work, but that's a hassle and a half.

I don't have high hopes for many games though, I'll still get an OG Xbox anyway soon. Wondering which improvements we'll see on games: AF, V-Sync are confirmed, but what about games without widescreen support?

As cool as it is for ms to really support backwards compatibility to this level

I just worry it will split resources and we won't get some of the Xbox 360 games I was really still holding out for

Called it: (04-16-2017, 08:09 PM)

All this OG XBOX talk.

We all thought 360 BC on Xbox One was impossible (or improbable at best).

The same is often said about OG Xbox.

Could MS deliver it?

Rare Replay and the work they did to 'port' the 360 games helped MS build the emulator for the Xbox One.

Could Phantom Dust do the same for OG XBOX?

Am I setting myself up for disappointment?

And my hype prediction was near spot on too, just a few things (in spoiler tags) that didn't happen.

Here is my hype prediction:

1. Opens with Scoripio teaser trailer. Builds up the hype. Shows back catalogue of Games (which will later be confirmed as Scoprio upgrades)

2. The name is Revealed - Xbox Scoprio (or Xbox One X).
One is dropped completely.

3. The machine itself is revealed. Its essentially the dev kit, in black.

4. Phil comes on stage "Xbox Scoprio is the latest member to our Xbox family. You can play all your great Xbox games in one place. Yes, you heard that right. ALL your Xbox games. I am pleased to announce that Xbox Scoprio can play your original Xbox Games.

5. Xbox family confirmed:
Xbox One S is re-branded to Xbox S
. Also has OG Xbox box compatibility

6. Games games games. All the games. HDR, 4k.

7. The close is the price for Scorpio. $499 at launch.
(smaller model coming in 2018 at $399). Includes 6 months game pass.

8. Close.

Original Xbox BC was a true 'cheer' moment. You have morons in the crowd that cheer for stuff like the price tag announcement lol, but this was a legit whoo!

I never expected disc support, figured that was wishing for way too much - MS have been crazy good with this stuff! They really don't get enough props for the BC effort awesomeness. I mentioned earlier in the thread if it happened how much 'fun' I'll have digging out all my old Xbox games. :D

So I need my holy trinity of games, and I can get rid of my OG Xbox once and for all :

Panzer Dragoon Orta
Jet Set Radio
Otogi

I think I have just over 50/60 titles on the OG Xbox, need to unpack them now. Hugely excited to see what games get support. So many great racing titles and shooters, just really loving the support that Microsoft has been bringing to this generation. Did they announce any OG games yet or when the service would roll out?

So will OG Xbox be disc-based too? I upgraded my 360 HD to a 500 gb 3rd party version and as such I lost BC, and I never owned an OG Xbox, so I'm hoping my old games will work.

Also hoping for a game that I adore but never gets mentioned among the Xbox's best, Armed and Dangerous!

That's the game with the Shark gun?
