The size of the Kinect makes me wonder how people are going to integrate into their TV setup. All it needs is a speaker on either end and the damn thing could act as a soundbar.

Based on the size of the disc slot I calculated the dimensions to be about 32,5 * 8,6 * 25 cm

For comparison: Xbox360 Slim: 27 * 7,5 * 26,4 cm, PS3 slim:29 * 6.4 * 29 cm, PS3 Superslim: 29 * 6 * 23 cm.

To be fair, the fact that it's designed to sit under your TV, or on top of an amp etc is a pretty smart move. It will slot into your AV area nicely, and since it doesn't have weird angles, loads of chrome or whatever on it means it will just blend in. I guess the days of small, next-gen consoles are over.

So long as it lasts, I'm fine with the size. I would rather have an enormous console than one that breaks down all the time - assuming those are actually my choices. Personally, I'm skeptical that Sony and Microsoft can make give us launch unit consoles that won't overheat this time around.

I don't think it's internal. That power connector looks weird and proprietary and in the internal shots on Wired you can see that it goes straight into the motherboard.

I think what MS wanted to do was do away with the conventional "the console has to stand out!" and went to basics. It looks like it could fit into any home theater setup.

I think the RROD debacle influenced the design personally.
