Xbox One Launch Thread [Thread being archived 1/1/14]

After seeing all these problems with BF4, I might just skip on on it for the time being.

The PS4 thread of BF4 problems is horrible. I really wanted this to be one that I picked up first, but between the PC and PS4 issues it might be prudent to take a wait and see approach.

I should start watermarking my stuff.

That GIF was glorious - good stuff man.

In other news, does anyone know of any headphones that will be available Day One that work with the Xbox One? I love my A40's, but I'm a headphone addict now so really want a solution ASAP.

Don't sweat it KI is practically an "under construction" game, Titanfall doesn't come out till March, and Games for Gold won't be up on X1 until sometime next year so the only thing you guys are missing is the hype and potentially hardware defects :)

Yea I could buy one at launch but to be honest I barely have time trying to catch up on some big 360 games this gen.

Like trying to plow through the rest of the Mass Effect Trilogy (HONESTLY why didnt MS keep this game to the xbox???

Anyone know if this thing will support camera parties? I know skype charges you for having group video calling iirc. I wonder if it'll be the same for Xbox One.

Anything that passes their performance tests. That alone will limit it to fast USB 3.0 drives.

Probably. But I'd imagine anybody serious enough about using external storage would use a USB 3.0 drive regardless. So it shouldn't pose too much of problem.

Ok, so skype on Xbox is exactly like it is on PC then. Well, that's a little disappointing. I was hoping that the Gold sub would be enough. I don't really ever use group video calling, but with everyone having a Kinect, I'm thinking there could be some fun group calls.

I always think it's a bad idea to buy into a platform for what you think it's going to be in the future. You have to go on what the platform is in the now. I'm sure Sony will have some awesome exclusive titles in the future, even if they have yet to show me anything to make me personally want to throw down the change.

Right now, in 2013, all I have to look at is the launch window lineups. That's where Xbox One looks like the better choice at the moment. If and when Sony has games that I want to play that I can only experience on their box, then I will get one. Until then, I'll be happy with the games that are available on Xbox One.

Maybe I'm bad at making decisions - but I'd say it's far more dangerous to buy on the basis of the "right now", especially when the right now is a small number of launch games. I suppose that somewhat depends on whether you view the price of the console as reasonable as a short term proposition, or like me, as a long term proposition. For me, it's a fairly long term gamble on the basis of what I can see about the future. Admittedly, I entirely see not buying until the games you want are there - makes no sense otherwise.

Lots of hyperbole and cherrypicking here.

If you say so. To add to Ryse and Dead Rising, Crimson Dragon was also going to be a 360 game initially. That's three - and I'd guess there are more (not sure if anyone knows). How can we know, for example, if Zoo Tycoon was going to be a 360 game prior to being made cross-gen? Same with a lot of the titles. We can't know. Either way, there is a definite trend of Microsoft pushing games from 360 to the Xbox One. The 360 has been left with a paltry lineup, the One has, for now, a reasonably broad one. This isn't a coincidence.

So Puppeteer, GT6, Beyond ect are amazing but Forza, DR3, Ryse ect are all forgettable. They'll score the same and be around the same level of quality more than likely. The only big game out of those is TLOU.

Gran Turismo isn't .. big? Whatever

As for Forza, DR3, Ryse - I've played them all briefly at a preview event, but obviously I cannot fully attest to how good they are and how well they will review. I can speculate though. Forza is blatantly the most solid of the bunch, but is lacking in features and content. Dead Rising 3 really doesn't pack much of a next-gen punch, and is said to have framerate issues. As for Ryse - it's a beautiful mess - and pretty much everything would lead you to think it plays badly. That was certainly my first impression.

I would be fairly shocked if the One's launch lineup reviews well enough to live up to your statement. I would be gobsmacked if they are 'around the same level of quality'.

Sony had the better hardware last gen too, as so far I've yet to see a massive gap between the two. You've not been keeping up with their first party initiative? Black Tusk, Victoria, Osaka and Redmond are all working on core games, to compliment that there are several small studios they've started for games like Project Spark.

Several second parties are working on MS IP. Remedy with QB, DH with KI, Frontier with Zoo Tycoon. MS has lots of IP that can be given to second parties.

The hardware situation is very different this generation. Last generation, Sony had the more powerful hardware overall, but a weaker GPU, and a harder to develop for system. This time, Sony has the hardware advantage in practically every area, and the easier to develop for system. I don't really think there can be much discussion - this will matter. In the short term and the long.

As for the first/second party stuff Microsoft are doing, it's good to see, but I'll wait until I see these studios pumping out high quality experiences. These studios are unproven and a lot of the franchises Microsoft have really aren't at their best at the moment. Halo 5 coming from 343 is a great example of this. As a (relatively big) Halo fan, I don't have faith in them after Halo 4. With their even less proven studios, it's a simple case of gambling on a horse you've never seen run. Some of these studios will no doubt impress, some probably won't. It hardly compares to the situation that Sony has with its first party.

In any case - I'll leave it there. Enjoy the launch.

Lococycle seems to have a big HDD footprint for the kind of game it is.

The external drive support is the one thing I'm concerned about. Hopefully the support is universal, since you can get 3 TB for about $100 now.

Need lots of room to fit all that FMV

I got a second controller today so I'm ready for 2-player on day one. GameStop didn't have them out on display but when I asked they got me one from the back.

All the XB1 packaging is beautiful, MS definitely got that right.

Was at the new Microsoft Store opening in OKC tonight. First hands one experience with XBOX One and played a little Forza 5. Game looks so much better in person, and the controller... I love the 360 controller, but the XBOX One controller blows it out of the water.

Also met MajorNelson tonight...

Damn at these people having shipping confirmations from the MS Store. Looking forward to some early impressions next week.

I said it before...I guarantee people who are getting shipping notices this weekend still don't receive them till Friday. UPS will hold them. Happens with iPhones all the time. They ship a week early, and then they sit somewhere for a couple days. I hope this isn't the case this time around, and we get some early impressions, but I'm pretty sure you'll get them Friday still.

Didn't realize there was that much FMV in Lococyle. Knowing is half the battle.

As for all you people who ordered from MS, I'm jealous. What is it UPS ground? Most of you will probably get it early. Bastards.
