Xbox One: over 3 million sold to consumers in 2013

How many have they shipped then? Because the product is no long sold-out (so less than 90% sell through). Surely they haven't shipped 3.3 million consoles ?

So we can assume from this XB1 was in fact not the fastest selling console in December?

3DS probably did better than I expected but I wonder if that means another home console did better as they could've added that qualifier?

Eh trying to determine meaning from PR statements is probably a fool's errand

So basically, "that site" was nearly spot-on with XB1 numbers. If they're close to as correct with PS4 numbers, that'd be crazy for Sony.

Don't go there.

It is selling faster than either of the previous Xboxes.

I'm not sure about the original Xbox, but Xbox 360 was heavily supply-constrained for its first holiday season...this dramatically limited sales.

It would be interesting to see performances of an Xbox 360 that had as much available stock as Xbox One.

I have 2 DS4's so battery life doesnt bother me, it depends wildly on the game you are playing, I know I havent charges a DS4 for about 7/8 Hrs before and others every 4 Hours worth. I just swap them around on my DS4 Charging station.

Light bar is not going anywhere since it is quite handy so the PSeye can detect you are holding the controller and log you into your appropriate account or Game Profile. I dont mind it at all :)

I have 2 also, so not the end of the world just terrible design (or battery selection)

the LED on the other hand is brutal, I have a plasma and was prepared for it to be an issue when I play in the dark..but you see the reflection just as easily during the day. It has been completely useless for every game I have played so would be freaking awesome to have the ability to turn it off lol

When is the NPD announcement this month?

Do you think Microsoft would make an outright, falsifiable lie about sales numbers? The legal consequences for statements like that in a corporate environment are damaging enough that it's not something that's really feasible. If anyone would be able to make accurate statements about how many systems have sold in the wild, I'd say it's the company fulfilling the follow-up orders from retailers. I think there's just a lot of built-up demand for this sort of thing.

Im not saying he is right. But 1,500,000 consoles sold seems like a bit of stretch regardless. You dont have to outright lie to muddy the truth.

? Can you elaborate on "muddying the truth"? Because its either a lie or not, they gave actual numbers, this isn't something muddy?

I very much doubt they were lying here, but this is the company that announced day one sales before day one was over.

The number of RRoDed units would block the Sun though.

Judging by the allotment sent to larger markets (Spain, Germany), I don't think those 6 countries would have amounted to much more than a 200,000 consoles alotment, and that may be being fairly conservative.

I still think the delay in those regions was a software issue given the rumors pre-launch of big problems there.

Difference now is that you can buy Xbone in 12 countries. If they could provide units for 18 countries they would.

Software or not. CBOAT rumor said yield issues and soon MS changed launch countries from 18 to 12. Saying "CBOAT am cry" is stupid especially that yield issues don't always mean supply issues but can mean for example amount of chips from wafer is low and that means for MS high production cost and then it can mean supply problem.

Impressive numbers considering the period before the launch.

How do you muddy numbers such as these? The most they can do is neglect a couple thousand by simply calling it 3M. No way that they can "muddy" 1.5M sales.

Yeah, work around in that scenario, would be an "automatic Off" feature, it wouldnt work to disable it completely since some features require it, but to have it auto-off when not NEEDED as necessary would work for some.

I have a OLED Glossy Flatscreen mounted on the wall, about 4-5 feet from where I play, I only notice it sometimes, but that is largely because the center of the screen is EYE-Level to where I sit and I typically have the DS4 at arm-rest height. I also have a very comfortable but lowish Leather recliner (with foot rest if needed) So it works for me :)

Saw this story on Facebook, picked out a few gems for you gentlemen/ladies:

That last one, holyshit.

But anyway, 3 million is nothing to snuff at, congrats to MS.

Those are really excellent numbers. I think that long last gen created a whole lot of pent up demand. It'll be interesting to see if MS and Sony can maintain.

Yea it would be interesting to see where the 360 could have been if they had the stock available for it like they do the Xbox One. As it stands, regardless of supply constraint, the Xbox One is outpacing the 360. Now if it can maintain that with the PS4 available as well will be the main thing we will be watching.

on its own it's very good indeed and compared to previous consoles.

Now in comparison to its current competitor, will be interesting.

Either way, it's great to see that the XBONE has a pretty good user base so early on, great for competition.

One thing I don't understand about this pr is didn't Sony outsell them in the US November? and had one million sold day one? I don't know how they are the fastest selling or am I missing something.
The initial sales of both consoles were heavily weighted by presales. That means that most of the sales occurred in the first day or so with a huge drop off after that. Because the XB1 came out a week after the PS4, its average sales per day since release is higher than the PS4's in November even though at the end of November it was selling nowhere near that daily average. It's statements like this that caused the quote "There are three kinds of lies. Lies, damn lies, and statistics".

I dont know and im not going to give out random theories that can be translated as FUD unlike many on here.

But I am going to say that it seems strange that a console that has not been sold out for much of December managed to sell 1.5 million. It is not out the realm of possibility that Microsoft is using a different way of accounting "Sold to consumers" than traditional retail reports. It may be more accurate or it may give more room for PR error.

In any case, im not making a stand that the numbers are wrong. Im just saying that questioning them does not make you a conspiracy theorist.

Regardless of Sonys numbers MS continually releasing theirs a day or so earlier is a good PR move. Sends the internet into an impatient flurry/argument.

They must of known Sony were going to announce something at CES.

Should be close to 4.5 or even more. They will probably announce when they hit 5m mark.

Imo it is something ~4 mln

Sony themselves said that they plan to sell 5mln till march which is probably their max production cap.

Both consoles selling this well out the gate is great. Faster we can phase out cross-gen the better we will all be.

Didn't you know, the DS4 has a built-in salt to power converter? Only way to get the battery to last more than 10 minutes

This is a sarcastic response to hopefully the sarcastic response of a sarcastic post.

I'm only kidding mate. I knew you were being sarcastic.

Mmmm... delicious sarcasm overload!

Actually, that charges the controller. If I set the controller near my TV during Seinfeld re-runs it actually glows red and charges without wires!

That would explain their need for revenue; Almost all of the MS studio releases look money hungry (free 2 play mechanics in full priced Ryze, Forza, Crimson dragon).

Out of curiosity, how is that great for competition from a consumer standpoint?

Good news and the system is very good I've been using it a lot lately. Now get those system updates out now with new features.

http://news.xbox.com/2014/01/xbox-one-january-thank-you

Together, we ushered in a new era of games and entertainment with Xbox One. Over 3 million Xbox One consoles were sold to consumers in 13 countries before the end of 2013. It’s been incredible to see Xbox One selling at a record-setting pace for Xbox, and we were honored to see Xbox One become the fastest-selling console in the U.S. during our launch month in November. Since our launch, demand for Xbox One has been strong, selling out throughout the holidays at most retailers worldwide. We are continuing to work hard to deliver additional consoles to retailers as fast as possible.

.

Citation CLEARLY needed here. I went holiday shopping the weekend before christmas, (at king of prussia mall, near philly) and literally every single retailer that could have had Xbox ones had a goddamn pile of the things, including a mall kiosk set up to do nothing BUT sell Xbox ones.

Meanwhile gamestop was laughing in the faces of anyone asking for a PS4.

Selling strongly? sure. Selling out? I'm not so sure about that.
