Xbox One: over 3 million sold to consumers in 2013

Great numbers Xbox. Congrats although no mention of Halo concerns me a bit I must say...I need a Halo fix in 2014. I am not sure I could handle a delay, unless Titanfall lives up to hype.

"2014 will be a promising year with many more great games on the way for Xbox One including “Titanfall,” “Watch_Dogs,” “Project Spark,” “Sunset Overdrive,” “Tom Clancy’s The Division,” “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt,” “Destiny,” “Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare,” and “The Elder Scrolls Online,” among others. More games, more features, more content, more fun – all coming your way this year."

Oh no :( well cant say anything for sure till E3 or maybe gdc.

That certainly is interesting.

Halo also wasn't in that other article about the games of 2014. I smell a delay too.

So this pretty much confirms 1 million+ NPD for the XBO in december right?

Breakdown:

NA: 2.1 mln
UK: 400k
Rest: 500k

I would say it makes the platform holders try harder with their own games, if Xbox One bombed and Sony had it all wrapped up in six months then would they put as much resources and effort into their first party games?

Sony when they were trailing 360 put a lot of effort and money into their PS3 line up to tempt people who already had a 360. I would say that's good for consumers.

Oh, I 100 percent agree with you there. The guy I quoted made it seem like he wanted it to be close because "it's good for competition". Also, I wrote this up because I misread your post and thought you agreed with the guy I quoted lol. Still, I want people to know the benefits of not hoping for parity in sales:

The difference between those 2 companies is that Sony has a bunch of established 1st party/2nd party studios/relationships when compared to Microsoft. It's the reason why I want there to be a clear winner and loser. I want Microsoft to invest in studios so we can see constant exclusives throughout the generation. They would also have to provide more value than Sony to get people to choose the Xbox One over the PS4. Things like Amazon PSN, PS+, PS+ discounts, MMO friendly policies, etc would be great to see.

Always good to hear numbers

Consoles are dead! lol

So 1 million more sold WW in 20 days or so?

2 million sold WW in first 18 days

Relax, bro. I am not saying consoles are dead but let us avoid knee jerk reactions. Both consoles are selling extremely well. I just hope it continues. But it is way way too early to call. We are still very much in the early adopter period.

The "mainstream" audience wont show up until killer apps are dropped on both sides.

No chance, unless Sony magically found a way to massively increase their production of the PS4. And even then the demand needs.

I'm pretty sure that Major Nelson/Microsoft have shown us that avarage is king when we talk about console sales.

I am kidding of course. I think 4 million world wide would be insane, I'm guessing 3,6-3,7 or something like that.

Yes, fuel GAF and internet arguments. Stoke the fanboy flames. All is going according to plan.

Some people can't accept that there were two really successful consoles launched weeks apart. As bad as you guys are harping on the guys on Facebook, there are posts just as bad for 'the other side' right here on GAF in this very topic.

Sony should be at around 10-11 million sold in Europe alone, right? I think the november numbers showed that they avaraged around 350.000 consoles per day in Euorpe.

Avarage is best, there is no denying it.

Lol, not a snowballs chance in hell. I doubt Sony have even manufactured close to that number yet.

PS2 had no competition, but Sony kept pumping out exclusives, even though it was 10s of millions ahead of the Cube and Xbox. Meanwhile you had the 360 which had 2 tough competitors but almost no exclusives since 2010. I think it all depends on the type of company and nothing to do with competition.

Are you telling me that PS+ would exist in it's current form without Microsoft's Xbox 360? Giving away amazing games every month was a direct response to a competitor. This is why competition is good.

To be honest, I wasn't expecting a number that big... I think it would be a sensational story, if the numbers were just estimates that were horribly wrong.

If I'm honest, I wanted to see them take more of a beating over the direction they tried to take gaming and their general attitude towards advertising targets. Oh, I mean customers.

Wii U shipped 3.06 million consoles to retailers in 2012.

The 3 million mark really isn't that major of an accomplishment for a November launch.

It's great, sure, but it's not absolutely extraordinary.

Honestly is there really a difference between 3.7 mil and 4 mil WW?

it looks like Sony actually had the yield issues.....because with that many Bones sold and them being super easy to find everywhere. I walked into Walmart and there was a day one still sitting there along with 5-6 regulars. GameStop has a ton in my area.....its apparent that Sony was not prepared as we had seemed. Microsoft did one hell of a job making sure there console was the one that could be found the most and bought the most despite the price tag. It's launch lineup also was one of the best and they already have had 2 great arcade games launch in peggle 2 and max:tdb..........

Microsoft I congratz you on really turning all that negative PR around.

Was this a "shipped" number or actually sold to consumers number?

Have there been any PS4 estimates yet?

They quote "Xbox One consoles were sold to consumers in 13 countries"

expecting a reply from Sony at some point, either console typically does not wait around, Sony has a good platform at CES to make an announcement, most expect it there.

It's sold to consumers, but it's Microsoft's estimate. It's not 100% confirmed figures like numbers you would get from NPD or GfK, but Microsoft wouldn't state that if they weren't confident that the console had surpassed 3 million.

The U.S. NPD numbers will reveal a lot, notably the demand of the console as by deduction, we'll know the rest of the world numbers for December.

Really stretching aren't you.

Fastest negative PR turn from a video game company in recent memory.

You do know that Sony are releasing in more territories right.

More like 2.36m for NA and 340k for UK AND 300K for the rest.

Far too low for 'the rest' did 67k in Australia in the first 3 days. Seeing as how UK and US doubled the first week and a bit sales it's safe to assume Aus is safely over 100k.

NPD will tell us all we need to know about how it sold elsewhere.

Given that the xbone has been in plentiful supply at places like Amazon I wonder how many MS shipped WW? 4m? 3.5m? It is crazy talk them saying that the xbone is sold out everywhere...

PS4 is likely at 4 million.

If the system sold 2.1 million after 2 weeks on the US market and 1 week on the EU market, we can expect a huge increase from that.

If the supply allowed it, PS4 will be at 4 million. Give another million for the Japan launch and we will see that PS4 ends up passing Wii U as soon as the supply allows for it.

It is funny to hear them talk about selling out when they are readily available nationwide.

it sounds like Sony is having a much harder time meeting demand and it might hurt their potential holiday sales. It should help them continue selling into spring though, while the lack of upcoming software and lower interest in the xb1 might see its numbers slow down a lot for January until titanfall.
