Xbox One sells one million+ (sell through to consumers) in all territories worldwide

I wouldn't really say it is "running XBMC". They are just using the hdmi-in port for a device that has XBMC on it. That is like claiming the Xbox is running PS4 if you were to hook the ps4 hdmi in. I guess you can call it semantics but it just seems disingenuous to word it that way. Kind of cool although we knew this would technically work.

NPD doesn't give numbers. And considering Sony has been hiding from giving out numbers for a while to hide their failure, it would be pathetic if they start now. On the other hand, I fully expect Microsoft to fully reveal the results like they have done in the past.

We've known what each console has sold almost exactly for the past couple of years or so.

I'm sure the PS4 figure will get leaked. No way it gets kept a secret. Too many people with itchy trigger fingers.

Sure. Someone will want the protagonism of revealing it....coff coff Pachter coff coff...

What I'm not expecting is Sony bragging about in the PR. Or at least I hope they have that decency after hiding it in the last years PR after NPD.

Just got back from Best Buy was looking for and X1. They told me they had 42 and sold all of them last night. Same Best Buy only had 18 PS4s. So no X1 for me but I did go ahead and get the PS4 camera.

Sadface at some of the attacking or criticizing...

To be fair, MS could have sent all 1 million consoles to the US, too, and likely sold out. At the very least, we can agree that it's probable considering the timing of today.

Sometimes it's OK to just be happy about preliminary numbers for gaming's sake, and save the industry analysis for the NPD data.

I'm usually pretty critical and competitive as a finance guy... I mean, it's beyond just being a fan, my very livelihood and personal savings is contigent on being critical and even aggresive about declaring winners or advantages in an industry or sector. And i have been before. I hestitate to seem contraditory. I'm really not prone to be sensitive about other people being so critical or aggressive about who is doing better...

But the way some people are critiquing or taking sides here, in the context of just some genuinely happy news, positive for all gamers, genuinely gives me a sad face.

I'd like you to expound on this idea right here. I'm interested to know the logic behind it. Do you believe there was enough demand here in the US for MS to sell 1 million units in 1 day?

Congrats to Microsoft, it's nice to know that console gaming isn't all doom and gloom like the media had been reporting recently. Hopefully it will encourage publisher more to go full next gen.

I don't really see the need for all the posts downplaying the numbers. If the PS4 hadn't launched last week everyone would have been really impressed. 1 Million in 24 hours for a new console is great, and competitors selling more doesn't diminish that

So this figure is based on assumption that everything they shipped sold out. Yeah, wait and see on that, no way to prove the Euro number.

Glad to see two successful launches. Frankly both consoles have great promise and I'm excited to see where they both go.

I'm looking at the number of countries Sony is launching in and allocating units to over the two weeks bookending the Xbox Launch, I don't know how you could claim that lower NA sales for Xbox One are due to just a strategic allocation being made. The PS4 is by all metrics sold out in North America.

Sony has allocated enough units in each territory to launch in more countries by the end of this month, yet they are still crushing it in NA.

I think this has more to do with the demand for each console and the price sensitivity of consumers than it has to do with the allocation of launch units in North America. The North American launch of the Xbox One would seem like a priority judging off of the delated territories in the European Market and the major push being put together to have multi-media content available for North American consumers.

I'm not sure how else to interpret these numbers. They are very impressive for a $500 system though. It just seems strange to put the two consoles next to one another and say the influence of their sales are even or the same.

It's still early, but I would like to push back on the notion that the results we are seeing today are due to a allocation strategy and not an example of the different demand levels for the two consoles that have been substantiated by higher NA sales, higher preorder numbers, and polls gauging the attitudes of early adopters.

Try Walmart/Kmart/Target. Our Bestbuy was sold out, but I saw some at Target just a couple hours ago.

What would they do different, because they aren't sold out here.

Just two months ago when the PS3 outsold the 360 in the US due to the GTAV bundle Microsoft didn't publish their NPD numbers. Nothing guarantees they will talk about their XBO numbers if they are worse than PS4 sales.

All companies (including Nintendo) employ the same tactics regarding sales PR.

Hopefully others will talk about them...

PlayStation is going to be ok I bought 2 of them don't worry. We all know the PlayStation has faster Memory and a better GPU...just let it go.

I think we all knew it would be very strong in NA. The real story lies within the Euro numbers. I think that territory would respond best to a Kinect-less bundle.

Both companies say they're pretty much sold out, or so they say.

I agree that Sony's mindshare is through the roof, but if you only take the numbers into account, both companies sold 1m units worldwide on their first day.

It's still not a fair fight when the PS4 hasn't been released anywhere else yet besides NA & Canada while Xbox One has been released in 11 other countries including NA & Canada.

Once PS4 starts releasing worldwide, then we can start talking about that.

Those claiming Xbone isnt sold out in the States..how do you know this? I just assumed it was sold out everywhere. Do we know how many consoles MS shipped?

From the sheer numbers Sony seemed to have on pre-order and shipped to retailers... I kind of wonder if they are holding back a 1.5m sold memo just to one up the XB1 launch.

It is fun to watch the companies duke it out.

Awesome news. Console gaming (and competition therein) is here to stay apparently.

Thats what we as gamers should be focusing on.

Yea...you know how it is, one has to fail for the other to succeed. I had pre orders for both systems, hardship forced me to have to wait next yer for next gen, but I still plan on getting both.

I have never been a console fanboy......even when it was Atari 2600 vs Coleco Vision.

Just looked up Xbox One on my phone (mobile Walmart), out of the 18 stores all showed in stock. Called the first store and they said they have 4 left.

Note: I bought mine from Walmart without a preorder between 1-2 am on an impulse. The thought of Killer Instinct being good was to much for me to resist. :p

I've seen America = the world posts, but this takes the cake.

Until I can buy a PS4 in my local shop over the Atlantic it's a North America launch.

Just look at the other thread. It provides a pretty damn good sample of locations around the country where there were plenty of units available in multiple stores. The PS4 on the other hand is completely sold out in most places. Call you local stores if you want. Odds are they still have systems.

Good start for both consoles, looking forward to seeing how next Friday in Europe goes for Sony. Console gamers were hungry for new systems

What type of numbers do we expect for PS4 next week when it launches in EU? I mean, is it actually possible that PS4 outsells the XB1 2:1 after the EU launch?

If sony has enough systems available, I think it's pretty much given they'll sell more in EU than NA/CA, considering their past sales in the market. The PS3 sales in EU (including UK) were nearly twice larger compared to NA.

Ah ok, it was sold out at the GS and BestBuy near me but that must be the exception I guess.

Those are the last stores I'd go to without a preorder. :p Plus you have to factor in where you live. I'm in Colorado.

Either way 1 million is great news! Hopefully we get some killer titles announced soon and more developers will switch to next gen as a result of the big numbers!

Seriously guys this is really bad news for MS. They got the same numbers as Playstation did alone in the US combined with the 13 most important markets for them. PS4 outsold them on their own turf but also reaching the same numbers as Xbox did with 12 other major countries. What will happen next weekend when the ps4 launches not only in those countries as well but also a lot more countries where the Xbox does not even have a release date?

Even if half the xboxes where sold in the US it is a 2:1 ratio in favour to the ps4 on their own turf. According to the Xbox one pick one up after preorders thread there are a several plazes where it is still possible to get one while the PS4 is not even available through outlets,

This. Blows my mind people thought consoles were done just because PS3/360 were old and getting long in the tooth.

All in all I'm just glad all the "mobile is the future" people are eating some crow... for now. I hope these sales figures continues.

"But Console gaming is dying" lol

awesome!!!! i hope all 3 systems do amazing this holiday, more games, more jobs, more money in the industry!!!

All of this. I know people will play back and forth with whose million in 24 hours is 'better', but it seems obvious neither is struggling. Console gaming is alive, well, and folks were fiending for new hardware. So much for console gaming dying.
