The faster both consoles sale the faster we'll get genuine next gen games without compromises to cater ps360 install base.

Thanks. I don't know what Sony's shipments are, so I guess we'll have to wait until the end of the year for that one to go away.

For clarity, we would not have said "sold-through" unless we had a way of confirming that with our partners. So of course we can get that data.
What is the definition of sold-through? I'm not sales age so I don't know much about these terms.

Congratulations, Albert. It must be a relief for you guys right now to have your product out there after such a long journey.

As for the yield. The latest metal spin at TSMC would be a good figure to work from. I can understand if you don't want to give it out though as it is sensitive information, not just for you but for TSMC also.

If I only can understand this.

Good numbers. Curious to see how the price factors in over the next year once the early adopter period ends (those who planned to buy the console regardless).

n my opinion, if the Microsoft's worldwide shipment numbers are significantly lower than Sony's worldwide shipment numbers by the end of the year, then I guess that would lead credence to the "yield issues" rumour.

I don't think that would say anything.

Some PS4's are being made in Japan. So it could be that. As far as I'm aware all Xbox Ones are being manufactured by Foxcon.

However we can compare your US numbers with Sony's US numbers if you released them. We will have to wait until next week to get an Apples to Apples I guess.

The same argument will be presented. It's a bit ridiculous. We'll have conclusive information when Sony releases their Worldwide numbers next weekend. It should be interesting.

I don't buy this "we had a different strategy" angle to spinning sales numbers. They're good numbers on their own it would seem. It seems like another example of trying to claim balance. Our sales are evenly balanced across "the fewer European countries that we will be launching in this year."

Something I've been wondering about PS4 sales....Before the system came out they mentioned they had 1 million preorders and then on launch day they said they sold 1 million units but was the 1 million preorders referring to NA or Worldwide? If it was just NA that isn't impressive because that means all the extra units didn't sell and/or people cancelled preorders.

Im also interested in knowing how many people preordered xbox but the number must have been low since MS isn't sharing.

Both consoles did well. The real important number is six, twelve, and eighteen months from now. I don't get how this is controversial.

Thanks for the kind words, everyone. I love reading how people are enjoying the system.

As for the numbers, as people have said it's great for the industry (after all the reports of the "death" of consoles) to see the sheer amount of interest and excitement with consumers and the media over this. It's really amazing.

Sony chose a different path for launch, so an apples-to-apples comparison is impossible. We had X number of units to sell and we chose to launch in all our launch territories. Sony had X number and chose to focus on North America. Neither was better than the other.

In this circumstance, comparing our US number vs. their US number would be like comparing our UK number to their UK number. They don't have any in the UK yet, so it's not a fair comparison.

Both consoles I think will be hard to get through the holidays.

And I love how "yield issues" is still a thing. What was the precise number we needed to make for that to go away? There were no yield issues.

Hey, any reason in particular for under shipping free sale stock to the UK, London? Can't find a reasonably priced one anywhere and that's just not cool...

Both consoles breaking the 1 million mark is impressive. After 8 years people really want these next gen consoles. I'm curious how both consoles will fare when the year is over, my gut says there's definitely momentum for another record breaking number for at least one console.

There are stores still open in west coast USA. Surely waiting for them to close and report in would have been a good idea. That would have allowed you to get the European GfK overnights as well for a more accurate figure.

Still, 1m is a good figure. Take out Kinect and it will be 1,000,001!

It's the launch period for goodness sake. You say this as if the PS4 and Xbox One have been out for more than a year in NA.

"Losing significant market share"? Based on less than 2 weeks of next gen console sales on top of the fact that both consoles are obviously selling well during their respective launch periods?

Wow.

People rush to judgement, like always...

Next Friday.

Oh yeah consoles aren't leaving any time soon.
Lol @ the possibility of Consoles becoming extinct.
It will never happen NEVER! Some may die(Sega Dreamcast) but there will always be someone to come in and take that someone else's spot(Microsoft)

Will we see another Console die? It's plausible. I got money on Apple coming out with a console to replace an eventual death.

Apple's console wouldnt compete with the Big 3 though. They'd likely make iOS gaming possible on their Apple TVs and sell it for ~100 usd as a microconsole.

No way they would make a traditional console. Apple's products are expensive, the console would be expensive like the rest of the products in the portfolio. Consoles are a very price sensitive market and they're often loss leaders, Apple is getting crazy profit margins on their products. Overpriced premium product wouldnt be able to compete in it.

This may be a really dumb question but has Wii U cracked 1 million sales? If so how long did it take?

In america? No idea. I remember seeing it's around 4 mil worldwide though. Shouldn't take either one of these next gen consoles very long to outsell it considering they both already hit 1 million in a day.

I honestly don't think MS would make the mistake of a kinectless SKU any time soon. If you want devs to use some tech you need it in every box and most iterations. They put it in the box for a reason.

All in all, this is amazing for all the console gamers out there. Console gaming ain't dead and these sales figures prove it!

You (MS) said over million in less than 24 hours since launch, at that time it's still night in NA (less than 5 hours since midnight), so it's safe to assume the number are much bigger than 1.5 millon.

Nah I think those guys are still banking on a resurgence of the WiiU.

Its the smartphone/tablet assholes that were everywhere a year ago when the gen transition was in full swing, and console sales were down. Where are they now? Quiet as fuck, as they should be.

I love it.

Yep. Nintendo fans have actually been vocal about hating on mobile/tablets. Just look at any FF mobile announcement thread.

It's the iOS wankers who have been saying that consoles were dying.
