Xbox One sells one million+ (sell through to consumers) in all territories worldwide

They can't tell the Euro number for another couple of hours as Zomg pointed out, so this is MS' assumption and an easy way of claiming something you won't get questioned on later.

Bleh, just more clever wordplay like that term exclusive that keeps getting thrown around for things that aren't exactly exclusive.

Good numbers as they will undoubtedly sell what they have at least by black Friday if they aren't sold out now but I would have preferred less wordplay after the double talk we have gotten since the reveal.

Tried Target and Walmart. Both showed them in stock on their website. Both were sold out anyway.

Try Sears and grocery stores next. Some grocery stores carry systems so it's worth a shot. Always call first. Good luck man. Don't know what else to tell you unless you want to go to Colorado. :)

So is the Xbox One sold out everywhere in the US?

No, but that doesn't mean it won't be sold out in your area.

There were multiple stores we contacted in Germany who were told they would get less than 20 Bones until the beginning of next year. To me it is a soft launch in the non-English speaking world. Just a token "you're still important to us" launch.

I think they would have been better off launching in US, Canada, UK, Australia and NZ and spread the stock out better in those countries then worried about non-English countries in 2014 while also working on getting deals signed with Cable TV companies in Europe.

If they can't get Liberty's European footprint it's pretty much DOA. Not sure why any Cable co would sign up to yet another potential OTT adversary bypassing their box....unless they thing this thing has no real threat and they'll take the money.

Xbone sold 1 million within 24 hours in 13 countries.

PS4 sold 1 million within 24 hours alone in NA.

Fuck comparing them. Both are impressive in their own right. Congrats to both.

(Before people get all pissy about what I said, the Xbone had to climb back up the hill and gain the trust of their fans back. That's pretty impressive and it's part of that Xbone thing above.)

Going by last gen logic PS4 outsold Xbone. NA > World :D

LOL

and then Japan is on the horizon (though who knows if it'll even sell big like the previous Playstations there).

It's a tough market out there in Japan right now, but every cloud has a silver lining.

There should be enough Playstation hardcore in Japan that should make the launch itself a 'success', relatively speaking. And despite the move to mobile, there's been growth and increased excitement for western titles in Japan too. The big titles do sell well, and imo, it's slowly growing.

I would have liked to see what happened if MS stuck to their guns on the DRM stuff. I think they would have probably sold a lot more than people here on GAF expected.

So this means that PS4 has kept the lead over the Xbone for the moment in the US (which is the only market where MS has a chance of leading in this gen (outside chance for the UK)). Will be interesting to see Black Friday and Christmas numbers, but of course the main differentiator will be supply. Who can ship more consoles now to the end of the year. Anyway, good start out of the gate for Sony taking back a solid lead in the US after trailing there for the whole previous gen.

WHAT DID YOU DO TO MY POST

Addition: On Japan, don't forget how much the popular games can make on the consoles. Big name franchises like Gundam are going to gangbusters.

Seriously though, I still think that removing the DRM did A LOT for them. I know many, many people that refused to buy the system when it was announced and now they are, at the least, considering it.

Sony and Microsoft have raised the bar for console launch numbers. Unbelievable how many systems have sold.

How many Wii U's have been sold in the US so far?

Albert was in here implying they had the numbers already. I'm not sure why they would publish the PR now. You are correct west coast is still at happy hour.

Isn't it simply based on twenty-four hours having passed since the first country saw a release? Didn't someone mention it has been that long since the Australian release somewhere in this thread?

You mean like the Tales series? I guess we'll see how much your statement holds true in the future if the ps4 achieves and maintains a 2:1 lead ww for a prolonged period of time...

Right, so some niche Japanese games that won't even make use of that extra power will probably skip the Xbox because of its performance in Japan. But the big titles will be on both. Neither is going to end up in a Wii U situation. You'll be able to play the next Mass Effect or Grand Theft Auto no matter which one you pick.

Those niche Japanese titles would have been on the PlayStation even if the Xbox sold more worldwide anyway because their main market is domestic.

This isn't a positive considering the PS4 numbers. It looks like Sony will win back market share in NA and clean up worldwide this generation.

You really can't compare this gen to previous ones. The iPhone and iPad have made new gadget launches mainstream events, not just something for the hardcore.

The Wii U's launch was strong historically speaking, but the PS4 and Xbone launches really put into perspective how poor it was by today's standards.

Online inventory thing only updates so many times a day at most retail and some only update once a day. Its incredibly unreliable to rely on that on hot items especially on launch day

Wii U launched in line with typical launches then just died as far as appeal. PS4 and Xbone are simply a case of easier manufacturing allowing a larger allocation at launch. Imagine the numbers the Wii could have done if it wasn't supply constrained for 2 years. Still way too early to predict the future though

This.

I am quite happy for both consoles! Lot's of people have been declaring videogaming dead with the WiiU kinda flopping and so many cellphones and tablets selling. Well, I think the PS4 and Xbone have proven that VIDEOGAMING LIVES! Live and long and prosper, videogames!

The PS4 could very well have passed that number already

I doubt there were meaningful PS4 shipments this week considering that the console is still sold out everywhere. I suppose that they're preparing an other 500k for NA for the BF week + 1m for Europe.

There were indications of a Bone cockblock shipment.

Of course it's positive. It's a huge number. It's obviously not as good as Sony's in contrast, but that's unimportant - these are big numbers. Now the important thing is for both companies to maintain what momentum they can, and start focusing on bringing a consistent stream of high quality game. No much launch rush, thank God

I agree with this. And if its monthly sales pale to the PS4/One come the spring, it will be time to reassess its future. This Christmas will make or break the Wii U IMO.

Great number! and smh to anyone trying to call a winner at this point. Both MS and Sony will sell out ALL of their units this year regardless of how many country they launch. By spring next year we will know who have a longer leg, then we can come back and discuss.

Good start to both companies. Sony sandwich next friday though. Also in December there are other launch countries for PS4. You really wont be able to tell WW numbers til January.

MS won't.

I don't get it.

From the rumors LEADING up to the reveal, to the actual reveal, to the hardware, from the hoops the marketing guys were jumping though after they revealed it and the HORRIFIC statements they were making, to their bait and switch in just a weeks time. From the HILARIOUS UI, to the emphasis on being an all in one device when its target audience likely don't even HAVE CABLE, Xbox One this year since pre reveal to launch has been FUCK UP AFTER FUCK UP and yet STILL manages to sell 1 million. Aside from launch games, my question has to be WHY?

And this is from someone who initially was going Xbox instead of Plyastation after the ps4 reveal.
gamers are hungry for a next generation of gaming experience.

If we didn't know the ps4 numbers this would probably be the biggest launch ever for a console. It's very positive for MS even in the face of being "beaten" by sony.

It's amazing that if you question the numbers then people imply you are a fanboy. I owned all consoles last gen and I will own all consoles this gen.

Chill with the accusations.

I'll pull more people's cards if I have to.

While I agree on chill with accusations. I'd just like to state that owning all consoles doesn't magically exonerate you from having preference to one over the other.

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?
Good numbers to see, the console industry isn't dead yet. I have a feeling Sony has a good shot at taking this gen (It really depends on how much market share MS can get in NA. If they do anything less than the market domination they had here last gen, thats a pretty big blow to them) but a great start to the generation as a whole. Hope everyone is enjoying their Xbones, and hope the bluray drive issues turn out to be as minuscule as the blod stuff turned out to be.

Seriously though, I still think that removing the DRM did A LOT for them. I know many, many people that refused to buy the system when it was announced and now they are, at the least, considering it.

Yup. It went firmly from something I would never buy and do my best to convince others to never either, to something I'll likely pick up in 3-4 years when the price has dropped enough and they've finally accumulated enough actual exclusives (aka not ones I can play on my PC :p)

I still think even considering it cost them a lot though too. I would have been squarely between the two (and perhaps even leaning towards the xbone) if it wasn't for that whole fiasco. But the fact they even were trying to attempt it pushed me far far into the sony camp for at least the beginning of this gen. And I know quite a few people feel the same way.

So when are we getting precise numbers, that don't come from Sony/Microsoft? NPD is like once a month?

The November NPD report tracks sales from November 3rd, 2013 through November 30th, 2013.

So, we should get the first extremely precise report of USA PS4 and Xbox One sales on December 12th, 2013.
