Xbox One sells one million+ (sell through to consumers) in all territories worldwide

Who cares about the exact difference at this moment? The fact is that it isn't a bomb and Sony's not going to dominate alone with no real competition to keep them giving and honest. No runaway console monopoly in sight, basically. So, I feel that this is very good news, all things considered.

Exactly. It was the competition during the PS360 gen that drove Sony to become a better player (or at least give off a better image that has resonated better with gamers) this gen, while the lead-up to this gen forced Microsoft to reinvent their approach. All in all, it's good for gamers.

Spain is about the 4th market in that list, and there must be about 15k-20k X1 allocated. The 80% of this sales must be for US + UK .

i don't have a number break down and i am not claiming anything. but when you look at it from the outside. 1 million in 13 countries isn't that big.

then again this doesn't mean anything. systems are just getting started. who knows what will happen in 1 year from now.

Does the PS4 have a single JRPG out? I don't think it even has Japanese titles yet.

The Only Next Gen JRPG's that I can think of are Final Fantasy 14 and Kingdom Hearts 3 and both of those are also available on Xbox One. Neither would I call a JRPG machine.

Obviously not, but we do have announcements of Deep Down, Yakuza, Tales, Dynasty Warrior and Lily Bergamo for PS4, and of course Final Fantasy XIV. Japanese support for PS4 is obviously far stronger than for Xbox One.

While again I think these numbers are good and it was never going to bomb, I think MS have saved some face here by being able to at least hit 1million sales in those territories. It's no mean feat, I'm sure, to launch in multiple countries/languages and hit the magic million in 24 hrs, but it would have looked bad if MS couldn't have hit that in the face of their competitor launching in just one territory. Sony's numbers here look even more terrific.

Will be interesting to see the US split but we'll not get an idea of that until NPD.

There's no point dividing it by the number of countries. I doubt Sony will achieve a bigger average shipment per country for their launch phase 2.

If MS can ship and sell as fast as Sony, they won't stay far behind, regardless of where they're selling to.

FF14 isn't available on the Xbox One

One Million Dollars in 24 hours hits the sweets spot. It gave them bragging rights and can use it to give publicity.

800K,900K would look like the system bomb. I'm glad it didn't crashed and bomb. I want to get a White One next year.

Edit: I seemed to confused the games, Is it Final Fantasy 15 then? The one that was called 13 versus before.

Again, day 1 sales numbers are not indicative of future success. Most analysts and quite a few gamers expect them to offer a kinectless sku and drop the price $100 maybe as soon as 6 months from now. I am very curious to know how many of those 1 million units were sold in the US as well. Europeans are kinda getting the shaft with the stripped down features and higher price.

It's to early to tell .

Yakuza Ishin, Natural Doctrine, FFXIV, Tales guy said they have a concept in the works.....rpgs in general take a long time to make and so usually come out a year later. PS4 will no doubt get more jrpgs

I'm impressed. I expected the console to bomb outside of USA and UK, and selling 1M+ there at 500€/$ is a huge achievement.

Yep. PS4 would never be as good as it is, and Sony's much-improved attitudes would never have happened if it weren't for having to seriously fight it out with X360 in the first place. Competition, no matter how seemingly similar in many ways, is essential to getting good things. Otherwise, all of these motherfucking corporations would give less and less for more and more (than they currently are, anyway).

MS Selling 1m+ at the price they're at is impressive. It shows the brand has power, now to see how the coming months turn out.

The brand also has the loyalty of their most hard core fans. Much like Sony but with a different position in structure. This is not surprising but I would also liked to have seen numbers for the US as they coupled all their countries. We all want to compare and contrast.

I hope with the lack of PS4 releases the new Yakuza will get a port to the US. Sega if you do all is forgiven for not releasing Yakuza 5 over here.

Eh, you seem to miss the point that, at the current moment we are in, there is no one-sided domination of the new gen taking place. Yes, there can be a significant difference in sales, but there is no threat currently of having one corp tell everyone how and what to do in console gaming. That's going to be essential in keeping things going the right way.
It's to early to tell .
Of course, I'm not making long-term assessments here, but this is a pretty damned good start for what the echochamber on GAF seemed to have painted as a one-horse race.

Well, if 600-700k of those were sold in the US alone, the Euro numbers don't look so hot. I agree with the guy above who thought about 80% of the sales were from US/UK.

Eh, I think we all understand your "competition is grand" argument. You have repeated it enough times now. I don't think everyone is so keen on seeing MS thrive in the gaming market after all their bullshit the last few months.

This is a battle of virtually meaningless numbers ( unless you're Nintendo), but please continue to work hard to make the other team feel bad over a successful initial launch. Your life depends on it.

Okay, man, do you really understand my argument when they changed due to competition from Sony? That's the effect of competition and it is grand.

Yes, they executed the greatest pre-launch product revision in consumer electronics history, and for that, they must be punished!

Look at his pro Xbox post history. It's not surprising to see what he said.

I don't get the downplaying of the sales other than the coupling of 13 countries. I would like to see individual numbers.

Good luck with that. See "Sony family" for the past four years. These companies obfuscate when their sales are not flat out numerically superior. Hell, Sony simply stopped giving press releases on NPD days. I'm looking forward to the guy or gal who writes their releases being released from their dungeon for the December report.

Some Japanese devs even blankly refused to support the XO since they believe it wouldn't make sense financially
Compared to the time with the 360

I'm glad both consoles did well even when most of the world's economy isn't really good.

I am still very unhappy that there's no news on South East Asia for Xbox one.

Edit: I understand that they are trying to "configure" the xbox to the countries cable channels. But come on...most of us just want to play the games, you can always "patch" in all these cable stuff later.

You sound disappointed that Microsoft didn't crashed and burned. If Microsoft crashed and burn the days of PS2 won't magically return, you would get the days of early PS3 with an arrogant Sony.

Competition is great, Look at Microsoft they though they where at the top of the world. But Sony provided a much appealing product with the PS4 forcing them to rethink themselves like happened to Sony in 2006.

Now you can bet Sony's UI will improve with time, since the Xbox One is so much better. Microsoft is focusing on exclusives. Everyone wins except the haters.

This... This is not true, multi gigs? Or is this sarcasm?

Xbox One is a great system with a lot of cool features, certainly has that wow factor. I'm expecting it to be a hit over the course of this generation.

Great to have the system in hand now to cut the bullshit.

So, you are willing to reward Microsoft for trying to ruin the console gaming industry? I'm not.

Dear god, this self proclaimed notion that you and your kind are the vanguards of gaming is getting old. You don't represent the will of gaming industry. Many here want to see a console that enriches gaming with all these additions to succeed, there's no bringer of doom just a different direction.

I spend my GAF time posting about the console that interests me, news at 11. Since when did that become an epithet?

We would all like to see the country by country break down. We are not going to see it. You can accept that or continue to bang your head against the wall.

"First day" is a shit indicator anyway and these companies can say whatever they want...no third party verification. Why get so worked up about it?

First month will be the first chance at decent, rational discussion and even that will be limited because NPD has gone to hell.

As it has been said several times before. That comparison wouldn't make sense. Both Sony and MS shipped about 1M on their initial launch day and sold most of them. MS probably shipped less in the US due to their global launch, meaning they sold less than the PS4

We all knew and know that both consoles will probably be sold out until Christmas. What comes beyond will be interesting.

This would have been a better way to kick off your contributions to this thread than your other posts.

It would very much make sense to get a barometer. We know Sony sold 1m in 2 countries vs MSFT's 13. That's all we got right now.

that what Im saying these companies are here to equally humble each other if one goes full lunatic berserk with crazy ideas - this is a good thing for gamers - I am excited both of them are doing good so far and I can't wait to see what happens in the future.

Not sure if you can tell a whole lot about this stuff during release. I think you can say more by how many consoles did not get sold in certain countries compared to what did.

If they sold out, then there is no way they could sell more and thus they reached there limit based on what they could offer during launch. This doesn't give an indication as to which console is more preferred.

How is xb1's UI so much better exactly? They both serve their purpose quite well and are improved from their predecessors. Also, buying third party exclusives is not exactly considered focusing on exclusives.

Look, monopolies aren't a good thing, but I'd be lying if I didn't say that reading "competition is a good thing" over and over wasn't annoying.

I'd prefer Sony to compete with someone else other than Microsoft. That's how I feel.

On topic: nice launch, Microsoft.

One (not THE One) might have sold a bit more but all i read are good numbers. Console gaming is doing good and competition is healthy. Next-gen is now!
