XBOX or Playstation 2?

First lemme say that I'm not a gamer AT ALL! I like games, whenever I see certain games it piques my interest, it's just that as far back as I can remember I just can't seem to play em for too long. I'm 26 and I have some sort of ADD. It's like I HAVE to multitask all the time. As I type this I'm watching TV and holding two other converstations. I've tried to play games on this PC and I find I'm wanting to pause it and minimize the screen to check a message board or something.

This means the only games I can ever be too interested in are games that don't take a long time. Games like Tekken and Tony Hawk. I can sit down and play those games for like 15 minutes or so, sometimes a tad longer and then stop playing and i've got a lot of enjoyment out of them. Being that I have this problem, that means absolutely NO RPGs

I'm good with first person shooters, racing games, one-on-one fighting and so on. Also I don't do sports games. With the exception of tony hawk or snowboarding games, I can do some adventure styled games but they have to be really interesting and not a lot of downtime. I remeber an old NES game my cousin would play and it was boring as hell. It'd be like a monster approaches you and hits you, you don't get to defend yourself, just let it hit you till it's your turn to hit back...dumb as hell

So here's the real question. I'd like to get a console system. I don't need the newest thing cause i'll prolly stop playing it after a month or so, so I'm going with either XBOX or PS2 so given the types of games I like...what system has the most to offer? I sort of lean to XBOX because of Halo2. i played Halo a bit on my PC and liked it, but it was my PC and I kept minimizing it. Obviously i wouldn't get an XBOX soley for Halo2, i'd wanna be sure there were plenty of other games I could get into.

I would say go with your gut and get the Xbox, especially if Halo 2 is the single game you want to play most right now. It's indeed a game that can be enjoyed in short sessions, both online and off and there are plenty of other games for the system.

A GBA/DS or GC.
Warioware seems perfect for you, and the DS seems to have alot of pick up and play games.

On the GC you also have WarioWare, Mario Party, Mario Kart, Donkey Konga, Monkey Ball, Super Smash Brothers, all of these are games that you can play for just a few minutes, and you don't need to progress in.

This is true. You should consider the GBA/GC since both have games that you can play for 10-15 minutes and enjoy.

PS2

Xbox is only slightly more powerful -- rarely noticeable -- and sees its exclusives come out less frequently than the PS2's. The breadth of the PS2's library, encompassing every genre, also makes it an irresistable purchase. While the Xbox is a decent system, you'll often find yourself at Blockbuster or EB wishing its library was as diverse as the catalog of titles the PS2 has. Owning both, my Xbox is hardly touched, the last game I played being Halo 2.

Do you really want an ADD person on XBL?

You: "Cover me"

*you get killed*

You: "WTF man?"

Him: "Sorry I was ironing my shirt, doing my taxes and talking on the phone."

Xbox is the only decent system for shooters. And it has a lot of good racers as well. Since it's the occasional "big" release your most likely to play I think it's the clear choice for you.

PS2. It will have a longer shelf life than XBOX

- more great games coming.. RE4..etc
- great backcatalogue that's more than Halo1+2+T+A games
- you won't throw your controllers at the wall playing the POS that is NG. You'll fap to the GFx but you'll swear like a sailor
- unlike XBOX.. PS2 dev support will continue but XENON is coming so soon. Not a good investment..

XBOX
- if you chip it. Yes. XXOXB

Nah, it'd be more like:

"Cover me!"
"Okay!"
"WTF?"
"Dude, have you driven a Warthog? It's fucking awesome!"

I say Xbox. Unless you're really into the genres the PS2 excels in (Mostly japanese RPGs, strats, and stuff like that, which it SOUNDS like you could never sit through) then the 'edge' the PS2 has in exclusive content goes down dramatically, perhaps even favoring Xbox in many occasions.

And DOA >>> Tekken.

what's DOA?

I had a Playstation in like 1999 and played tekken 3 a lot. I liked it because untill that point I had only played mortal combat and streetfighter 2. The tekken charactors were a lot larger and much more fluid.

If DOA is similar but better i'd be willing to check it out.

My mother-in-law won a PS2 in a drawing a year ago and never touches it. if PS2 is fine for what I want, then I could prolly just buy that off of her for really cheap.

yeah....ADD

I remember seeing a fighting game where you could throw people down hillsides and junk too...what was that one?

If you have ADD you should play Wario Ware, it's the perfect game for people with ADD...

I was gonna get it in the local game store, and its $34 :(
I'd get it for $19 in a heartbeat.

PS2.

If you have to ask, you're probably one of those folks who won't care about the obvious positives of owning an Xbox over a PS2.

And of course, the PS2 has many great games, so I can't see you being disappointed unless the system breaks.

PS2. Better library; lots of great games available that are *CHEAP*. Online is free, so you won't feel guilty about wasting a $50 year subscription.

Nintendo DS with the instant sleep function sounds like it was made for you. :)

But, if you want Halo 2, then the Xbox is the system for you.

Dude I got frazzled just reading that post. You're not a caffiene addict are you?

Same here. It actually pissed me off to the point of wanting to say "Ok, calm the fuck down."

That said, PS2. Shitloads more choice means better chances of finding something that suits your personality.

He likes 1st person shooters, even mentions Halo, likes racing games and one on one fighting games and snowboarding games (Amped2 this guy would dig) but absolutley no RPGs and most likely won't use the system for more than a month or two. This has Xbox written all over it.

HAHAHAHA...I never realized that. I kinda type the exact same way I'm thinking it so it just comes out that way.

I think there are a lot of great suggestions here. I believe it'll end up coming down to econimics though. I might have mentioned before that my GFs mom has a PS2 I could prolly buy off her cheap. If it turns into something I stick with, I might be able to justify buying an XBOX in the future.

Till then I can always bit torrent Halo 2 for PC right? heh

PS2 has plenty of racers, too. WRC, GT4, and RRV, to name a few. PS2 has great exclusives -- many more than the Xbox -- that hail from every genre. The only reason he should choose an Xbox is if Xbox Live and a negligible graphical edge matters.

WEll this is easy...xbox all the way, ps2 older and stale..xbox beats the ps2 graphically...with eaaaaaaaaase i might add :D

Better quality games on xbox too!!!!!111112 :D

I would say Xbox, the graphical edge is not negligible IMHO, especially with games that use normal mapping. Plus you don't have to pay for a memory card, better controllers AND you get two games for free.

Unless there is a PS2 exclusive you're really interested in, almost all new games come out on Xbox as well along with a nice bunch of exclusives.

I'm good with first person shooters, racing games, one-on-one fighting

Xbox has better FPS and Racing Games

fighting games PS2 has the edge but you can get Street fighter AC and Soul Caliber 2 on the Xbox which is enough to satisfy most fighting game fans

You can’t go wrong what ever you chose but judging on the genres you mentioned I would say Xbox.
