Xbox reportedly moving away from Physical Media

Digital only gamers seem to be the same as vegans. Mostly seem to be an American thing. Rest of the world still like physical media.

Yeah, a bunch of large retailers in the UK are carrying Gears of War Reloaded for PS5 (Amazon, Smyths Toys, The Game Collection), but there's absolutely no sign of an Xbox version.

In the UK a big move away from physical, and it's just the way everything seems to be going here, from cash, to your monthly docket to Gas bill with are all now going paperless thanks to Climate con

Yeah, the climate con is the biggest con I've ever seen to be honest. Pity so many people/politicians fell for it. It's the cleverest money making / laundering scheme ever

Digital is good but its also a double edge sword , physical media has more sales

during the holiday season , kids and parents would rather buy a console and physical box game instead of a thin cardboard printed xbox gamepass download card with $50 value

Gears of War reloaded, outer worlds 2 and many more only have physical releases on PS5 here in Australia

Xbox versions? Digital only.
It makes sense. If the vast majority of your userbase will play these on GamePass, why bother printing discs? Also they have few consoles with actual disc drives.

I'm sure I read that Xbox as a platform is more digital than Playstation anyway, but I think Microsoft have said that their most successful hardware this gen is Series S - which doesn't have a drive.

Take into account that some players on Series X (that chose the SKU with the disc drive, not the digital only one) prefer digital, or have gamepass for first party games and you'd be producing discs for a fraction of your userbase.

All the games I've bought for my Series X have been digital (and I have gamepass) and the guys I play with AFAIK all buy digital, so I don't find it hard to imagine that Microsoft might not consider it a necessary way to get games to their customers.

I don't even know if that's true now. Parents like the idea of handing over a physical item, and everyone likes opening a present, but loads of kids spend their pocket money on V-bucks. I reckon loads of kids are entirely at ease with digital purchases because it's what they've known their whole lives and on top of that, would rather just have all their games ready to load up without messing around with ejecting and inserting discs. You'll doubtlessly find some people who don't agree, but I tend to think that physical media is generally speaking an old person's preference, outside of things like Vinyl records, where the aesthetic and analogue process is part of the charm.

Its just an excuse to tax and get more money out of people from corps and GOV. While the super rich and politicians live the high life

I'll take climate changes seriously when China, India etc. are taken to task. So far it only seems to be targeted at white countries/Japan being the exception(which ironically are the smallest polluters). Gee I wonder why

There comes a time where the society has to move on to improve. the gaming climate isn't going to get held back by a handful of physical people.

Yep, and I'll take it seriously when our superrich and politicians give up the internet, their smartphones, the new suits and dresses and all fights abroad Ect. All to save the planet

Until then, we all know it's a con LOL

You might be surprised how many "Collectors" are out there.

I've been reading about Manchildren harassing retail workers about farving Pokemon cards.

Have to admit the climate thing is what started me looking into solar power and to be perfectly honest I am quite happy in the long run I did go full off grid solar

Several years ago we had a pretty bad ice storm that knocked power out in my area for about a week and living in a pretty secluded area it was close to two weeks before utilities were working and at night it was getting well below zero

Some of our in laws stayed with us while their house froze up and busted water lines

Last year alone between storms and a drunk driver we lost power 7 times that lasted more than a few hours so to me it was well worth the investment

Plus adding in my truck is an F150 Lightning EV that I can charge now for free.

All a side note to the original story

China is the global renewable energy leader though. There's no other country doing as much as they are to adopt clean energy.

Never said I was against solar, electric. Not at all, I think it's great if people do that, if it's what makes them happy and works for them, then that's awesome. What I have an issue with is people/governments etc. trying to force it down people's throats, tax people etc.

That's why I'm saying it's a scam. Going electric out of your own or solar on your own decision is what matters.
