I think the new console is just called "Xbox" and the "Series" is just the version of it, so for example the "series X" will be the premium most powerful "anaconda" version (like the xbox one x), and the "series S" will be the "lockhart" less powerful slim version (like the xbox one S). Name makes a lot more sense if you look at it like that.


Basically just replace the word "one" with "series" and its the same naming convention as it currently is.

xbox one x = xbox series x (Anaconda)
xbox one s = xbox series s (Lockhart)

MS just got rid of the "one" branding is all.

Which quite frankly is what XB "One" was already suppose to be - a ONE ecosystem, ONE family of devices, ONE operating system, hence the whole name. I guess they really, desperately want to get away and cut themselves from that terrible initial impressions left by Don Mattrick's leadership, and start basically the same idea from scratch, under Phil's umbrella.

One thing is for sure, that naming is going to confuse 'regular' consumers in the same way Wii to WiiU did.

I have watched four reaction videos this morning and all of them thought is was a redesigned Xbox One X.

I think this is a BAD name and I hope they rethink it.

It's an objectively awful name because of how confusing it is. When I saw the reveal I groaned at the name as I realised I'm going to have to break it down to every customer that comes in to buy an Xbox and then explain it again and again as they continue to mix it up with the One X. It's already annoying enough having to exaggeratedly pronounce S and X since they are so phonetically similar.

I'd ask how they managed to approve such a poorly thought out name but Xbox has a terrible track record for console names.

I still think there is a high likelihood that Series X is just the branding which will cover/include the family of different xbox consoles. If that's the case, it means that when the consoles release in 2020 they'll have a different naming convention than just "Series X." Which means all the previously speculated names are still no the table (Xbox Infinity, etc.)

Xbox Scarlet Series would be way better. I think if they get rid of the X, it will reduce the risk of confusing from the common consumer by a grand margin. It can be pretty difficult for some parents, especially when the date of release for the new consoles is marked to Holiday 2020.

Xbox One is a terrible name. I loved the rumored Xbox Infinity name. I actually think the X surname is pretty good.

The Wii U is the absolute worst godawful name in history of consoles. Nintendo fucked themselves so hard with that console and it started with the terrible choice of name.
