Thats not how Nintendo likes to run its buisness ie. writing blank checks. Even their greatest coup from this generation obtaining the RE franchise Mikami said that Nintendo didn't really pay for the series as much as they just had an arrangement (Capcom gets to play with the Zelda franchise while Mikami pimps out RE's for Cube). This is imo their biggest flaw being their unwillingness to write those checks in an age where MS will surely put some dollars in yo back pocket for ya hair grease.

As for Sony they are the industry leaders so if they have paid for exclusives it wasn't for many or much. I'm no insider but one of the Rockstar Big-Wigs use to gamble over at Horseshoe Casino by Chicago and he use to brag about how Sony paid top dollar to get San Andres (and perhaps future GTA's) as reasonable timed exclusives. I believe the number thrown around was between 200-300 Million but as we all know, where GTA goes 12 Million fans go.

Right, because I was completely wrong that the lack of OoOE logic was hurting performance more than expected..(I wasn't). I also said there were issues with the yields (which there were...and thus my speculation about operating frequency), but IBM has since fixed them.

How do you "know how it is?" Do you work for a Japanese developer? Are you a part of their monthly meetings that focus on company strategies and platform development? I would like to know.

If you're going to say that employees for Microsoft are going around Japan flashing BIG AMERICAN DOLLARS in the faces of all Japanese developers, because, somehow, the Xbox 360 just isn't an attractive console to develop for AT ALL, I would like to see you qualify a statement like that with something to back it up - something concrete.

Of course not they learned their lesson from that with Xbox. I still remember the story about how Kojima was pissed he wasn't offered money hats for the MGS game that he promised for Xbox while some other Japanese dev was bragging about all the money MS had given them.

Wtf? I have nothing against the 360 at all. Without the excessive courting through money and other means, many Japanese developers would be much more cautious in their approach to the 360, purely based on Xbox 1's failure in Japan.

I think it's common knowledge that the majority of Japanese developers announcing big titles (i.e. Sakaguchi, Mizuguchi) were given a large amount of money. Can I show you a check or a earnings report that says "MONEY TO TEH JAPANESE DEVZ", no, because MS will roll it into "Operations" costs.

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with it, it's what MS does -- buy what it can't get on its own.

yes because there is a rule set in stone by the united nations that japanese devs that make games for MS CANNOT release their games in any territory but japan. Therefore MS has to pay these devs to recoup their losses. Team Ninja gets around these rules setfourth by the UN by including that 30 second treaty in the boot sequence all of their US XBOX games.
