Newb question.. But why is it being held in Japan? When its main market is in America?

because microsoft actually wants to succeed this time in japan? and to do that, you need actual japanese developers and real japanese games?

They want to compete in all 3 regions, the Japanese region is beneficial to them since their gaming industry is responsible for great games and they want some love from the Japanese consumer, so this is a neccessary step towards acceptance.

Anyone wanna guess how much money Japanese developers received from MS for the 2005-06 fiscal year? :)

Gamespot claims Sakaguchi was paid $40M and Mizuguchi $20M, not to mention the others...

But really, I think it has more to do with Microsoft simply creating better relations with Japanese developers than paying them. Thats the impression I got reading Okamoto's blog today, anyway.

to be honest, I believe this whole360 launch is so rushed, that Jap. developers won't have many finished tiles. AND probably launch date over there will be delayed, so if I keep my expectations low... that way I can be surprised :)

The battle for nearly frozen market growth and unpredictable demand begins!

What does the future hold for the Xbox 360 in Japan? And the week after that? And the week after that? Stay tuned to GA News.

Japan was irrelevant, until now!

Hahaha, watch it be irrelevant again if nothing significant is annouced. When I say Nothing Significant, there needs to be more then just Ridgeracer, and at least one significant exclusive from a japaneese 3rd party.

That's money lost in the couch compared to what they want to accomplish. They just want to be safe, just like Ms. Duff is

probably the same as Konami, Rockstar, etc. were paid by Sony...

The 1 dollar question is:

Will there be any Japanese publisher that isn't going to support the 360? I don't think so. That in itself is a 1,000 times better situation.

The $1,000,000 dollar question is:

Which big time franchises are going to the 360? Sony's already got MGS and a guaranteed real FF, Tekken (?), & DMC. Microsoft has got DOA, the Mistwalker games, and they're splitting RE5.

Any of the following would be huge for Microsoft:

Final Fantasy
Dragon Quest
Onimusha
Tekken
Virtua Fighter
Ridge Racer (looks likely)
Next Gen Sonic
Phantasy Star
Winning Eleven

Other less huge games would be

Silent Hill
Dynasty Warriors
Saga RPG
Ninja Gaiden
Monster Hunter
Ace Combat

That makes no sense. What is rushed about it? Why would Japanese developers be any less prepared than western developers?

Also, in their financial conference call the other day they said they are still planning to launch worldwide before the holidays so I'd say there is about 0% chance of a delay in Japan.

In your list sonycowboy, are you refering to that being big if MS gets one of the above as exclusive, or as a port?

oh great, so i have to go to a meeting at 1:30!? fantastic :(

My prediciton :

This is MS's big chance to put themselves on the Japanese game map by showing Japanese games content and showing that they have stuff at least up with the Sony showing...

so... inevitably...
they'll show all the Velocity girl shit again and WANK IT UP like the cock masters they are.

If they haven't learned anything from E3 they need a fucking good kicking.

Who's to say port? What's RE5? I'd say they're equal PS3 / Xbox360 unless we know different. Certainly getting exlusives is the best, but removing a franchise as one of your competitors competative advantage is the next best thing.

There's not going to be many "exclusive" games next generation. Never forget... Resident Evil exclusive on Gamecube!!! GTA exclusive on PS2!!!!

Tis true, actually I was thinking about that the other day...
Its not going to be nearly as hard to port a PS3 -> Xbox 360 and vice versa as it was last generation. I'm not a tech guru, but I think they are more similar hardware wise this generation.

Which is an advantage and disadvantage for sony, they missed out on a ton of good PC content last gen, that may change, on the other hand they may get less exclusives beacuse its now more cost effective to port.

In which case its a mater of who gets them first. To most of us on here (perhaps I should not use most, hehe) Then its a mater of whether or not its worth wating for the other version for better graphics or features.

on a side issue, if most companies do go with X360 as the base machine, what issues/problems might there be with porting up to PS3? (or vice versa)

How reusable will the code be between the two architectures?

I'm not sure, I think until a single developer gets both final dev kits, we won't know for sure.

probably the same as Konami, Rockstar, etc. were paid by Sony...
Different situation though..

MS is literally paying devs to make ANYTHING for the 360..

Paying for exclusivivity of a given title seems less...desperate..

My hint

Sega Rally 3 (aka Sega Rally 2005)
Afterburner
Scars of the War (Square Enix)
Final Fantasy XI (Square Enix)
One game from Game Republic
The still unannounced game of Mizuguchi-san
Lost Odyssey
Ninety Nine Nights
Blue Dragon
Resident Evil 5
True Fantasy Live Online
Shin Sangoku Musou (Koei)

and all the E3 stuff (Full Auto, NFS, Condemned, etc)

According to our Japanese correspondent Anoop Gantayat, Taito announced that they will bring World Airforce to Xbox 360. Also, Konami announced that Pro Yakyu Spirits is currently in development for the new console. The Spirits series is a baseball simulator that will most likely not be seen stateside. No other details about these games are known thus far but we'll keep you updated as information becomes available.

Nothing major yet.

Both were timed excusives - and there'll be a lot of timed exclusives this gen. Funny you should mention GTA.
