There is only one playbook at MS and it's EEE. Literally the only thing they know how to do. They will grow their third party offerings, accumulate absurd power being the largest publisher, and then use that to extort platform holders while pushing their own agenda.

I'm not lumping Nintendo with anyone. Nintendo game sales are great. Though they likely would have overtaken GTAV with a game or two had they gone multiplatform.
If Sony exclusives sold as well as Nintendo exclusives did maybe they would have stuck to being exclusive, like Nintendo.
PS4 + PS5 combined to sell something like 170 million units, yet the best selling PS4 game is only in the area of 20M.

I was not on GAF back when the writings were on the wall for Sega Dreamcast and then going 3rd party. For anyone here who was already on GAF back in those days, I'm curious, did you see the same stages of grief from Sega fans as we are seeing today from Xbox fans or was it different back then?

I think it depends on how big the games are and how much people are okay with waiting. There is a reason why Sony don’t release their first party games day 1 on PC, they know some people will jump in instead of waiting.
But personally I’m over all this. I’m going to play Xbox and Playstation games on PC. It’s ridiculous to invest in hardware to skip timed exclusivity on a handfull of games, imo.

And the majority of GTAV runs on PS4, with each copy getting Sony 30% pure profit. This is made possible because of their hardware dominance, which was possible because of 1st party games.

It will be. Microsoft always covers for both narratives; this is the same.
- If someone says, "big games will also be multiplatform", they will point out to Phil's podcast that it is just these 4 smaller games.
- When the big games eventually come, they will point to this tweet, saying "yeah, these big games were already confirmed to be multiplatform."

Don't think the twitters intern quite conveyed the message xbox want to put out with that tweet. On their wire post yesterday they said "The biggest games in the world will be on Xbox" as their #1 "this is what it means to be part of xbox" reassurance in a list of 5, which is as meaningless and non-committal as any of their recent claims it's safe to ignore as PR fluff, but "The biggest games will be on on more than one platform" is a gigantic backfire when the faithful were having it rough trying to come to terms with the acceptance phase.

The only game that Microsoft has that I can see people plopping money down for their hardware (as opposed to waiting) is CoD and that's under legal obligation to remain multiplat for the next decade. Folks aren't enticed to buy Xbox hardware now, so taking another reason to buy it away is continuing to pour gasoline on that fire.
Whatever significant competition existed between the two is largely over.

Shocking only at first to learn huge franchises were going to PC, but everyone got over it, same will apply here. Microsoft is a massive publisher now and some of their games will be better suited on Switch, others on PlayStation and others will remain on Xbox only.

But xbox didn't say what you suggest. Their twitter said "The biggest games will be more than just one platform" as a sub-tweet to the news that 4 smaller/older games are coming to Switch and PS - that lands differently.
Your mistake is assuming that they are referring specifically to XBOX games when they are not.
They are referring to the industry in general and the trend towards multiplatformity. And yes, that statement can cover many narratives... -if MS announces the arrival of FF to XBOX in June, for example, this tweet could also be used for reference? Also yes .
-If Sony announces the arrival of its first parties to PC ( or "other platforms")? Also yes.
Because precisely that is the message of that tweet, that games launching on a single platform are going to be increasingly rare. And that is precisely why they have not eliminated it.
We can discuss the future and multiplatform strategy in the industry and we would all agree on that same phrase. But of course, it is made by the Xbox X account and it is too difficult to miss the opportunity to sharpen it or a different context.

There are far more successful first party games sales wise between Sony and Nintendo than there are third party.
There is only a handful of third party games that do those sales volumes.
They're trying to set a narrative to soften their failure and new forced strategy.

No one has hinted at such a thing, in fact Xbox is probably the platform where fewer games are released compared to the rest.
That is not what is being said, and that is certainly not the context of that tweet. It's just that the times where you needed a specific platform to play a game are going to be a rarity. It's that simple because some of you are choosing and wanting to take it to another different narrative.

That tweet is not referring to Sony or Nintendo going to launch games in the competition. It simply means that games and especially big budget ones are clearly going to be a rarity that are only released on a single platform.

They just announced PSVR for PC after "announcing" that all their games are going to be released on PC and at a greater cadence..... And you tell me that multiplatformity is not a trend on PS.
