Just thinking about it after a round of Dota 2.

An XCOM 2 announcer pack would be pretty legit.
Too bad Beaglerush isn't a household name in Dota. He would make a hilarious pack.

I mean his fans basically cut out anything he's basically ever committed into audio form on the internet into a sound pack for soldier voices. It's amazing.

Is this for XCOM? I'd play a Long War playthrough with this just because.

Pretty sure he plays LoL, anyway.

Exalt missions aren't my favorite, but I almost want to see them return so I can get some payback.

Guys...they took my dollar. They took my fucking dollar.

GMG has a nifty -25% code for pre-ordering a bunch of 2016 games, including this one. Seems like a no-brainer at this point, so I went and pre-ordered it. There were some other big names on the list where that code applies, but I'm well stocked with this and Dragon's Dogma.

25PERC-2016GM-WTHGMG, (* Valid until 16:00 UTC 12th January 2016 Terms and Conditions apply)

Digital Deluxe version is $53.41 at Funstock Digital with 20% off code. I'm thinking about cancelling my standard edition preorder there and getting a DDE one instead.

Soooo....
My PC meets the minimum requirement but not the recommended.
What are the chances of this coming to PS4 and/or ipad during the year?

Lacking in CPU and Video card but still tempted to get the PC version..

I have a Intel Core2Duo E7500 @2.93 GHz and a GeForce GTX 460 1GB video card.
Recommended is a 3GHz Quad Core and GTX 770/HD 7970 or better according to CYRI.

Well the minimum requirements are a Core 2 Duo E4700 2.6GHz and exactly a GeForce GTX 460 so I guess you will be fine at lowered settings. There are no plans for a PS4 release as far as I know.

It probably will eventually since they haven't ruled it out, but in essence the game would end up vastly different to what the PC version will likely become. Firaxis are going all in with modding tools and workshop more than most games, so the game and its contents are likely to change quite a lot over time vs its original state at release

It's PC only. If you want to read about why it's PC only read this article:

In truth, there is no way to know for certain whether it will or won't eventually come to consoles. Power wise, it seems unlikely that current consoles couldn't hand it (with perhaps some minor compromises). But the UI is clearly much more PC optimized this time. I get the sense that it may come to consoles, but that it is a low priority for Firaxis, and is more likely to happen later (2017?) rather than sooner.

It's not coming to consoles.

Jake Solomon has said that the console versions are possible after the PC release. So, yeah, there is still hope*.

Focusing all of Firaxis’ efforts on the PC made logistical sense to DeAngelis, too. “Internally, with a relatively small team for the size of the game that we are, to be able to say we can focus on our platform that the studio has a pedigree for, and that X-COM: UFO Defense has a pedigree for, as PC-only... it just made a lot of sense, and that's how we wanted to dedicate our time.” XCOM 2 runs on a heavily modified version of Unreal Engine 3.5 (Firaxis’ customizations are too extensive to easily move to Unreal 4), which in some ways has been rewritten to the point of being “unrecognizable,” and it’s much simpler to make that work on one platform than three or more at once.

...

As for the chances of XCOM 2 making its way to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 at some point in the future, Solomon wouldn’t rule it out, but it won’t happen any time soon. “We're certainly not opposed to that, but I can assure that's something we're not even discussing yet,” he said. He added that the PS4 and Xbox One would likely be technically capable of running XCOM 2, but developing all of these features for multiple platforms simultaneously would be impossible for Firaxis to do.

But if you read the rest of the article, he clearly says that the game is being designed as a PC game (even going as far as not adding gamepad support), and that they are not considering a console version in the near future. The game didn't even sell that well on consoles.

Thing that's going to make or break the PC version's longevity is the mod scene. I'm not too sure how that's going to work on any hypothetical console version.

Fallout 4 kinda does something like that, but then again that's on a different scale altogether especially if XCOM 2 is as customizable as Solomon says.

Like I said, there is hope. As far as I know Solomon has never rule out the console versions. Instead he has focused on giving a good image to the PC release how the game is designed as a PC game etc. And this is perfectly understandable because let's not forget that in 2012 there were small but vocal minority who whined how Enemy Unknown was dumbed down because the game was released as multi-platform.

To be clear. I'm not claiming that we are _definitely_ going to see PS4/X1 versions nor I would drool over these versions (I have already pre-purchased the game from GMG). But simply saying that the game is PC only doesn't give the full picture.

The continued console port begging is becoming insufferable at this point.

That's just a given with PC exclusives on gaf unfortunately, it's tolerated more so than console port begging.

I'm glad they're focusing on building the game for PC first because the UI and controls of the first clearly suffered from being designed for controllers and it was more awkward to play with M+K than other similar games because of it, and I suspect that some tactical options were limited to play better with those systems. Hopefully we get the fullest extent of the developers' vision with this one.

In what way was I port begging?
It was a question.
don't be a douche.

Thanks otherwise for all your response.
I guess I have to try the PC version and hope for the best.
I guess the mods might up the requirements...

anything i need to be aware of if i am buying from cdkeys considering it is the cheapest i have seen?

I've bought loads of them and never had any problems they sell gutted European copies of the games hence why they are so cheap. I'm planning on pre ordering from them too.

Hmm so we're definite on the no gamepad controls thing? That's a real shame I loved streaming the game onto my TV via Steam :(

Still buy it though because the last game was so good after getting it via PS+ I wound up buying it on Steam to eliminate the loading screens!

I'm gonna be all over making a steam controller profile day 1.

Wait, for reals? I've been on a fairly large blackout for the game so I didn't know this was the case. :(

I enjoyed playing X-Com 1 with a controller. It was pretty fantastic.

Same. I always play the previous game on PC with a controller on my TV. Shame there is no option but if it expands the game's ability to be more tactical then I am all for it. I found the last game's interface to be clunky with M/KB since it was clearly designed for controller use. I have a BT Mouse and keyboard that work well on my lap and chair.

Yea, that was pretty much me too. The PC controls weren't to my liking, which was always strange to me as I largely prefer KB&M for most games on PC aside from a select few genres.

Ah well, as long as the controls are improved, I suppose I don't mind too much.

I'm sure the Steam Controller will be fine for this game, I also plan on streaming it to my TV.

Don't have one. =/ I use a DS4 for my PC controller needs.

Outside of Z-fighting for cursor selection making for a few messed up moves (wanted to move to balcony, moved into the pit below) on that one abductor UFO, KB&M was my preferred method of input.

I wasn't even talking about you specifically.

But for the record, asking "is it coming to consoles" when it's been clear for some time (read th OP?) that it's PC exclusive for the time being with no news about a console port is what I would consider as port begging.

This is probably the first game I'll buy day 1 since bioshock infinite. I don't buy many games day 1. Maybe 5-6 games in the last 5 years.

Also, my expectations aren't even that high (as in leaps and bounds over the original) but I'm still stoked. But I am expecting much much higher replayability.

Same, I tried with a 360 controller and while it seemed equal at first it, it soured very quickly.
