Huge XCOM fan very much anticipating this sequel, and first time in the thread. Had no idea until now that gamepad support is potentially a no-go. Both my PCs are hooked to the TV(s) in my LR and BR. Not ergonomic for me to play via M/KB for the most part, especially in bed. I simply assumed that like most modern game releases, that this would ship with full controller support. Ouch! I'm hyped enough for the game that I'll deal with it I suppose, but hopefully there are some decent 3rd party (xpadder, etc I guess?) plugins that let me use my 360 controller.

A new (I think?) alien showed off for a bit at IGN. Looks rad, as do most all of the aliens. Looks cute, but then AoE zombie.

It's a cross between a cyberdisc and a tentacault. I dig it.

People will have ad-hoc controller setups for the game posted soon after it comes out. If you have a Steam controller it might more or less be workable right from the get go from the menus.

I wonder of the Gatekeeper zombies turn into Chryssalids, too. If so, this thing gets a high spot on my "KILL IT! KILL IT NOW!" list.

Remember, a Chryssalid zombie in XCOM 2 does not become one Chryssalid. It becomes THREE.

People called Romanes they go the house?
I'm so glad that there's so much more alien variety in this one. Should really help keep things varied in terms of how they react and such.

Is this the thread where we shill our OT title ideas?

just 30 more days until we can scream over missed shots again

I'm actually curious if they'll implement that system again where missing shots secretly adds to your next Chance to hit. If I remember correctly it only happened on normal and easy modes in the base game.

Honestly, most of my time with the first one was on the Long War mod so I'm not too worried about that.

The long war devs are making their own game and will most likely not create a mod for XCOM 2. We'll have to see how the game turns out but I hope actual mod support can get a team of new modders to expand and flesh out the base game.

Well, it's not a zombie, it's a gross pulsating sac.

Pectoids get the zombies.

Went to double check, and yup, no more Chryssalid Zombies.

But since really the zombies were generally more of a liability to the aliens than an asset, that just makes them more dangerous :/

Oh, and they posted a few new environment snapshots, so I'm gonna update that thread.

Pre-ordered weeks ago. I already know that this will be my most played game the next three years or so.

Quill18 and Northernlion are running full series' (minus cutscenes) as well.

Certainly says something of Firaxis' faith in their product if they're find with putting full at-home gameplay out there a month before release.

Yeah, after seeing all this I've decided to pre-order it.

Is there any reason to get the digital deluxe version instead of the regular version?
Seems like the price hike for some extra DLC is not worth it for me.

Edit:
Bought the regular version on cdkeys.
Was the cheapest way and the only option I had, since I'm a bit short of money and not really sure how my computer will manage the game.
hype has begun.

Not if you don't think that the DLC is worth it, no.

Duh.

I do think that list bit will be worthwhile, though. Shen's Gift.

You get the OST (which probably won't be sold separately and would have to be pirated if you don't buy the DDE) plus some pretty good DLC.

Also, if you order on GMG using their 25% off code, you basically pay the MSRP of the standard edition.

They may never do it.

Unless it ends up on consoles, in which case they have no excuse.

Well, I mean, they have said multiple times controller support won't be ready for launch but it will come post launch.

It would be pretty shitty of them not to do it at all.

That said, I don't know when we should expect it. (Keep in mind when they said it wouldn't be ready for launch, that was when the game was launching Nov 15.).

Either way, I have a steam controller, and I kind of want to wait and see if I can play this on my Surface Book when I get it. However, the hype is indeed getting to me.

I'm pretty sure they haven't said that it will come post launch, but that maybe they will support controllers post launch. But only maybe.

Honestly, most of my time with the first one was on the Long War mod so I'm not too worried about that.

And while that mod was great it had a vital issue... longevity. Boredom of playing the same map for the fifth time, especially. Boredom of approaching almost every single mission the exact same way. Even replaying base defense was pretty bleh because of the same exact map and routines.

I liked long war, and I also loved the base game unmodded. They both suffered from replayability. The procedural generation of maps will likely be the biggest difference.

that puzzling face
Yoooo, procedural generation and workshop additions tbh.

I'm currently doing a Hail Mary grind for Continental Fellow. Started it on 4 different occasions across the years, gave up halfway, forgot which continents I'd already done.

This time I'm being smart and doing it with vanilla XCOM, so no meld, no exalt missions, no stupid time-wasting base defense. That plus imminent XCOM 2 means I'm certain I'll nail it.

(Also going backwards from the bottom up in case I luck out and it counts all the old shit I did)

"In fact, IGN reports that Firaxis is currently planning to launch XCOM 2 without gamepad support, although the studio aims to add it in eventually."

Can't find the IGN quote I believe its from their IGN First coverage.

And as always remember that CDKeys is a greymarket keyreseller.

If you want from an official source GmG still have it at 25% off until 12th of january.

Being without controller support is slightly annoying as I don't have a table to use when playing on my 55" tv. Looks like I'm going to have to borrow the breakfast tray again!

I happened to play across different Long War updates and they changed the spawns several times if I remember correctly. It helped a bit with the flow on those maps but other than that yea, procedural generation should be awesome for replayability.
