XCOM 2 (PC/Mac/Linux, Firaxis, November 2015) announced [Up: New info/screens in OP]

Hey guys, I need some input.

I'm a total PC noob, owned Macs all my life and had to buy a Windows laptop for school. So only recently has PC gaming opened up to me. I know that laptops in general are less powerful than desktops, and what I have is hardly top of the line, but it can run Enemy Within with most settings on medium or even high, so I figured it was a safe bet that I'd be able to play XCOM 2.

But now that the system specs are out, sites like Can You Run It and Game-Debate are telling me that my computer is good to go in every field except GPU. here's my laptop. The minimum GPU needed is a 1GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460, I have a 2 GB GeForce 940M.

Game-Debate changes from a flat no to a 'maybe on low' when I factor in my laptops 1366x768 resolution.

I just need some input from people in the know as to whether or not I can expect to be able to play the game. If it just means I have to play with settings on low, I don't care. But obviously if it's 'playable' in the sense that it'll run at 3 FPS or something, that'd rule it out.

Thanks.

Maybe on low

there's a possibility they'll release a demo, EU had one

hnnnngggg that is some amazing box art

Really digging the new base... I like some of the changes to the bar, or how your actual soldiers now appear in the lounge area. I thought the gameplay functionality was already pretty sharp on EU and EW so if their upgrade focus is more on aesthetic and general 'base life' (dynamic to your gameplay) then that would be great.

Ever since Diamond Dogs and Mother base in MGS V, I feel such an urge to play XCOM haha not sure why, maybe just the general industrial feel of the base and recruitment/management process of 'your soldiers'

Here's a video from Angry Joe, showing the base and customization elements, as well as one full mission. It looks fucking awesome, the only game I will need next year. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HVw-QOU06WU

43 minutes long.

This is a great video, shows off some stuff I haven't seen yet like the Recruit screen (you get a little backstory on each of them as well as seeing their face. Can't see the whole thing, but there's a dude in a blood-splattered hockey mask who might be an escaped maximum security prisoner) and the Guerilla Tactics School, which seems to be the equivalent of the Officer Training School.

How well would this run on something like a Surface Book? Have specs been released? It look ssiiiiiiick.
They have, they're on the Steam store page for XCOM 2.

As for minimums, these are the highlights:
MINIMUM:
OS: Windows® 7, 64-bit
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E4700 2.6 GHz or AMD Phenom 9950 Quad Core 2.6 GHz
Memory: 4 GB RAM
Graphics: 1GB ATI Radeon HD 5770, 1GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 or better
DirectX: Version 11
Storage: 45 GB available space
Sound Card: DirectX compatible sound card
I don't know what a Surface Book's specs are, but that's what you have to compare against.

Yeah, pumped for this but waiting until I purchase my Surface Book. Going to get the absolute top tier SB, so unless I am missing something, it should run this rather well..(Xcom 1 runs on my iPhone..)

Got further into that Angry Joe video, and he mentions that Interceptors are gone... are they gone gone? Or is the air game something that gets unlocked later in the game? The stuff he says indicates the former, but I haven't seen anything talking about interceptors before. I mean, it does make sense, since you're not fighting off an incoming invasion anymore, but still.

Maybe your allies will down them for you.

Considering how the scenario being inverted with the aliens defending their assets from XCOM this time around, I would not be surprised if THEY are the ones with Interceptors this time. And considering that the Avenger is a flying base, I'd say Alien Interceptors would generally be really bad news.

I wonder if you can arm the Avenger?

Could be. I doubt the various resistance factions will have much in the way of air power though.

Oooh, fun possibility: partway through the game another level opens up in the strategic game, where you start taking and holding territory from Advent. At that point you can start building hangers and whatnot on the ground.

Now this is a fun/terrifying thought, lol.

I really like that cover.

Do we know yet if there is any kind of UI scaling?

The UI will definitely scale. By that I mean that the UI will be the same relative size regardless of resolution. As for whether or not you'll be able to manually shrink or enlarge the UI, I doubt it but who knows.

Actually, I think this is guaranteed based off the dark events that they have shown.

I wonder what the countermeasure is when that event finally fires. Does a UFO appear on the strategic map and you have to avoid being in the same region as it, or is it just "Too bad, here's a base defense mission" as soon as it fires?

I frame-by-framed through that bit where Garth swiped over the Tactics menus and here's what I found:

Integrated Warfare

Stay With Me

Specialist: Cool Under Pressure

Est. Time: Instant

The class bonuses all sound pretty OP.
I dunno, the Sharpshooter one is pretty eh, but they all have pretty high rank requirements, so I think you're not going to be able to afford them before mid-game, when you'll probably be facing Archons and maybe Andromedons, making them way less OP.

Boy, I feel I am going to regret not ordering this thing during the Black Friday pre-order sale... I grabbed Xenoblade instead because I was worried about the rarity. After watching all the Xcom2 material I had no choice but to start up yet another round of Xcom1 ;)

What's the deal with the advent troopers? I mean they look human, but then it seems like they speak some alien language and have alien looking blood? Some kind of chimera?

Eh, 10% extra crit chance? That's pretty impressive. It's not particularly sexy, but could be lethal as hell.

Actually, I think the really broken thing might be that Exo-Armor. Shit's gonna have to cost a ton, otherwise I am absolutely churning out enough for the whole squad.
