[XDA] Google Pixel 6 Leak

The Google Pixel 6 and Google Pixel 6 Pro are the next set of flagships from Google. The Pixel line as a whole has prioritized the experience over just hardware, so everyone is indeed excited about Google finally bumping up the hardware in all the right ways. While Google will be officially launching the devices on October 19th, a massive new leak has corroborated practically everything we have revealed, along with giving us more information on the upcoming flagship duo.

In the past, we at XDA have brought you several exclusive pieces of information about the Pixel 6 series. We wrote an exclusive report about the likely specifications of the new Tensor chip on the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. This includes the core configurations as per benchmarks as well as some other tidbits like codecs. We also covered an exclusive Google Pixel 6 leak with information directly from the phone itself. Now, UK-based retailer Carphone Warehouse has accidentally published full marketing pages of the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, as spotted by @evleaks.

There’s a lot to unpack here. The pages are expansive, so we recommend checking those out if they are still up. If not, we’ll cover some of the major points that hadn’t been confirmed so far.

Pixel 6 Pro LeakPixel 6 Leak
Kicking things off, the marketing pages confirm that both of the phones come with the long-hyped Magic Eraser function, as we had revealed in our Pixel 6 Camera Features leak. Magic Eraser can be used to remove photobombers and unwanted objects from your photos. The face deblurring feature is also mentioned, now with its marketing name “Face Unblur”. The new Pixels will also be able to take better portraits that capture true skin tones across the spectrum. One of the images also mentions “Learn what’s new with the Pixel Camera, Google Apps, and more” — the choice of words is interesting, as it specifically mentions “Pixel Camera” instead of “Google Camera”.

The phones will also come with an unspecified 50MP primary rear camera, which we had mentioned was the Samsung GN1. The MP count of the other sensors has also been mentioned, and if you want to go beyond and know the exact sensors that are being used, you know where to go.

Image-218-1024x490.jpg

Next up is charging speed. Google is finally upgrading charging speeds, now maxing out at 30W wired for both the devices, according to the fine print on these pages. Wireless charging speeds are capped at 21W and 23W for the Pixel 6 and Pro respectively, but on the Qi-certified Google Pixel Stand 2nd generation. To get either of these fast charging speeds, you will be needing to make a purchase, as Google will not be shipping a charger in the box. Furthermore, both the new 30W USB-C adapter and the Google pixel Stand 2nd gen will be sold separately. There is also an official translucent case that you can spend money on.

image-1024x436.jpg

Some other tidbits mentioned on both of the pages is the inclusion of Gorilla Glass Victus and IP68 on both devices. Interestingly, only the Pixel 6 Pro is mentioned to have an LTPO display with a 10Hz – 120Hz variable refresh rate, in line with previous leaks.

image-1-1024x606.jpg

Another Pixel 6 Pro exclusive is going to be Face Unlock, which is a feature that is missing on the security-related graphics of the Pixel 6’s Pixel Security app. Note that the front cameras are different on both of the devices, as we had previously mentioned.

Live Translate feature for the Google Pixel 6 series

Thankfully, the other software features mentioned appear to be common across both devices. There are mentions of Live Translate, Live Space widgets with a flight card and running activity, and more. Google is also promising “at least 5 years of updates“, though it does not specify whether this relates to just platform update or platform plus security updates. This longer update cycle is made possible thanks to the control that Google wields over its own Google Tensor processor.

If you look beyond the page, as Nils Ahrensmeier did, you’d also spot mentions of a Bose 700 offer. This lines up with a previous leak which had the Bose 700included as a pre-order bonus. This in turn adds weight to the leaked starting prices of €649 for the Pixel 6.

There’s no doubt we’ll be hearing even more about the Google Pixel 6 in the coming days. Until then, you can check out some leaked Pixel 6-exclusive “Motif” wallpapers.

Wonder what the hardware will be like, I also find it funny that Google says it is protecting personal information.

I really want this but I’m not going to pay the crazy high price, I’ll probably just get a 5a

Pixels are good phones, I had two, but with Google privacy being so bad, had enough. My gmail account was banned because I had explicit covers in YouTube Music, which I had bought from iTunes years prior and uploaded. Took two weeks to resolve, to be banned again because their AI was quicker than me to delete the songs. Just ridiculous. Never again and I sold all my Google gear and went back to Apple.

Yeah ok but where the fuck is my pixel 6 tablet?!
I had the Nexus 9 back in the day. Unless Googoo got better with tablets, you're probably better off getting a Samsung tablet. I've not used it personally, but have heard great things from coworkers & friends.

I'm actually on my third Google phone right now and I'm switching too. Sooner I'm out of the google ecosystem the better

Samsung and apple are overpriced and the only one that remains is huawei and they kinda stinks.

Unfortunately you only have those 3 who made high end tablets...

I don't know about the other 2, but Apple offers refurb products at a decent discount:

I've bought a couple of items refurbed and they look & work like new.

I wonder if that 649 Euro price will mean $750 USD for the phone.

I just want a mid-range, vanilla android phone. I've been a OnePlus guy for a while, but I was looking to get out of their world. Around $500 would be great.

Google scares the hell out of me with this kind of thing. They banned my YouTube account and I have no idea why.

I absolutely love Pixels. However, my Pixel 4 XL died after six months and honestly I don't know if I'd ever return to them. I went full Apple and have zero regrets.

Yeah but who really cares? Do these sell well? I don’t even know if they exist outside the US. Google and hardware are a terrible combination.

My upgrade is due at the end of this month, just in time for the Pixel 6.

However, I'm in two minds. I can't decide between this and the Sony Xperia 1 iii. My current phone is a Pixel 3 XL, and although I love it for the software, the hardware itself is a shoddy build. The Sony phone looks fantastic, but I've heard the battery life isn't that great.

What is great about Apple is how easy is to get a replacement, repair or refund when something is wrong. Sony phone needed repair, no place to turn to.

They certainly aren't good phones for the price they are demanding. Bare bones phones with hardware that always seems to be behind everyone else, while charging premium prices. The Pixel 2xl I had was a travesty, in particular the screen. Move it a few degrees and the thing was washed out in a blue haze. I swapped out three phones and they all had that issue. The one I stuck with then ended up having burn in after 6 months. And 4gb of ram. Come on.

This would be easier to handle if they were priced aggressively like Nexus days, but that isn't happening. Google is attempting to be like Samsung and Apple and they just aren't there yet.

It seems to be primarily targeting people of color based on the marketing materials. Perhaps the Pixels are outsizedly popular with that demographic.

After the Nexus 6P, all the Google phones I ever had could do everything except make a bloody phone call. Never could. Tried different phone apps, and always screwed up. Used the Pixel 1, 2 and 3. All f'd.

No thanks Google, you're good at software, but this joke's on you.

PS, 3.5mm headphone jack for life.

Agreed.

Been thinking it over and I'm not going to get another pixel phone.

I've had the pixel, pixel 3XL and my son had the pixel 3a. All three were poorly built and had hardware issues in under 12 months.

I love the software experience on a pixel, but the hardware is shit. Not going to get fooled again.

Decided to go Sony this time. I've gone for the Sony Xperia 5iii and I upgraded my son to the 10iii.

They had serious balls jumping into the hardware game and then charging iPhone and flagship Samsung prices. 5 iterations of the pixel and they still can't get the hardware right. It's mind boggling, but hey, maybe they will get it right this time. I have zero hope this will actually happen but wouldn't mind being surprised.

I tried the pixel XL 2 a few years ago. I wouldn't call it a bad phone, but I certainly overpaid given the comparable hardware. These phones still are kind of meh and compete against iPhones. You'd think with 100 billion in the bank they could manage to churn out competitive hardware.

They're almost sort of reference models for Android, in the way Nexus phones used to be. But this year we're seeing a tighter integration of hardware and software with the new SOC. I don't want to oversell the benefits of Tensor, as in some cases it's more a question of efficiency than whether or not a feature is possible but it's done jg some interesting stuff.

Google has been laying in the cut for a couple years but Pixel 6 is the start of a more aggressive hardware strategy (and more competitive hardware).

I was a huge fan of the Nexus 6P which I've used for 4 years, changing battery once. I now use a Pixel 4 for nearly 2 years and I hate it. I hate the battery life, the build quality (the 6P was like a rock), the lack of fingerprint.

Nexus was GOAT tier during the Nexus 5 which was extremely cheap and one fine ass phone for it. Pixel is premium priced but shittier quality than Nexus by a long shot.

Yeah ok but where the fuck is my pixel 6 tablet?!

I waited a long time for a Nexus/Pixel tablet too, but I eventually bought a Samsung S5e in early 2020 and its the best tablet I've used in terms of price and quality, 1440P OLED and 4 AKG speakers. Its not much different from the stock android hardware.

I’m going to wait for real use reviews. I’m still on the iphone 6s so I’m either going with the regular pixel 6 or grinding another year out of this phone until the iphone 14 comes out.

Fuck. I've been burned twice, but I'm seriously considering going for the Pixel 6 pro.

I just got an Xperia 5 iii, but the phone is so narrow I worry that watching films on it will suck compared to my 3XL. Not to mention that Sony phones aren't really setting the world on fire. Nobody buys them and their market share is tiny. I worry they'll do an LG soon and just leave the Smartphone market. I have 14 days to change this Sony phone for a pixel 6......shit, I'm so conflicted.

In the future they'll probably just be Samsung and Apple anyway.

I'm kinda kicking myself because I wanted the Pixel 6 Pro but I'm stuck with this OnePlus 9 Pro, which isn't a bad phone. Just wanted those guaranteed firmware updates.

Return it and get an s21 ultra. Absolute boss of a phone. As a former nexus/pixel user I can't imagine going back now after having an s21 ultra.

Plus we can be s21 ultra bros

These Pixels seem very nice. But of course Google will not allow me to buy one since I don't live in one of the 8 countries on the planet they deem worthy. It's absolutely infuriating. Not only do they not sell the phones in most countries, they actively prevent you from importing one from another country (even within the EU - is that even legal?). No other big company behaves this way, all other relevant phones are sold here in Sweden.

In short, Google fucking sucks.

Just pre-ordered the Pro.

For reference: My first Android phone was the Nexus 5. Absolutely loved it. Once Google went the Pixel route, I found a better "value" option and bought the OnePlus 3T. Amazing phone until it stopped taking a charge, so I waited until the OnePlus 7 Pro, which I've been rocking for 2 1/2 years. The 7 Pro is absolutely amazing, as well. However, OnePlus is not the company it used to be. They're no longer the "value" flagship-killer, and their OxygenOS is going the way of Samsung's OneUI, so I was already mentally checked out on OnePlus.

And here comes Google with an actual flagship phone that has all the high-end features I want, and a stock Android experience. Price is $150 more than I paid for my 7 Pro, but hey.... I guess that's inflation. Can't wait to have a nice camera, too. OnePlus's cameras were not great.
