I think I am reaching my breaking point with this game. On chapter 5 and combat is just starting to feel like a real slog. I think the battle system isn't so well designed. Like they want it to be streamlined and yet everything behind the scenes is convoluted with all the different variables. In the heat of battle it's hard to tell how optimally you are performing.

I know enemies have different resistances but the game does a poor job helping you keep track of that. Let alone letting you know if your attacks are infective. The thought of needing to go in the menu to swap weapons between enemies types makes me to drop the game.

Try looking up a build guide. There are a few online. Getting your CPU team (For the Main story it will be Lin, Elma and Irina 90% of the time unless you want to fill the Irina role as healer/buffer yourself but thats one thing the AI does really well and the battles are too fast paced to keep up at times.) All working together and allowing the player character to be high DPS is the way to go.

Duelist and Astral Crusader are the two best player classes by far. In this way the AI will automatically heal Shield and Debuff you. ELMA will have high DPS and
Infinite Overdrie
and you can just focus on positioning and DPS

I can post a few links if you want.

Also. Id suggest Rushing to chapter 9 before doing any more non manditory sidequests. This game becomes a huge Drag when you have put in lots of hours but are still virtually powerless. At least then you will be around level 40 and able to handle most enemies on foot. From there you can grind to level 60 in under an hour and then ease through most sidequests mechanically while leveling up afinity with previously unused party members

I am currently a Mastermind but will consider pursuing those classes if it will lead to a more enjoyable time. Sure, post the links and I will give them a look.

I have generally stayed away from side quests but that is good to know.

Thank you. :)

Here are the two pages i got my most recent builds from.

https://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/701151-xenoblade-chronicles-x/73023441

https://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/701151-xenoblade-chronicles-x/73179135

Found some OP mastermind builds while doing a quick search.

Its called a Blossom dance build but seems more endgame then right now.

Once you MAX out a tier 3 class you should change to another. Arts are Tied to your weapons so you can start building XP in other classes but keep your same arts build.

Once you get your Arts and Passive skills sorted. The next step is weapons and Auguments. The easiest way to do this is unlock as many arms manufacturers to as high a level as possible because they allow you to buy rare gear with useful Augments already inbuilt

Then just match weapon damage type with your art/paasive skill damages and you are set.

Hope that helps.

Ps. Affinity missions are great, they are basically this games equivalent of Mass Effect 2s Loyalty Missions. Its where most fall in love with this game. They are a drag at lower levels but once you are overqualified to do them they are great as you can power past enemies and just enjoy the world building

Sorry for the double post.

Just got done with chapter 6 and wanted to post a few thougts.

1. Man this game really is Systems on Systems on Systems. I had been completely negelecting the soulvoice system up until now.

2. Tatsu is everything people said Jar Jar binks was when star wars episode 1 released.

3. This game does such a good job forshadowing every future reveal once you know what to look for. Suprised i missed most of this stuff on my first playthrough.

4. Now time to get some skells, then rush through to flight mode. Do some quick level grinding, then time to get caught up on all the sidequests i've been avoiding until now

5. Seeing the
Telethia
up close in the cutscene was really cool. Its such a shame Monolith had to downgrade the game to fit it within the WiiU's specs. The Artstyle is great and doesnt need changing, but man a real current gen lighting engine, Volumetric clouds ect that stuff would have been incredible if it were possible

Got done with chapter 7 earlier today and just got done with all of the prep work to be ready for chapter 8. Just a few thoughts.

1. While i have been skipping most of the regular missions i did do one for the pathfinders. Skipping most of these Regular and Afinity missions takes so much away from the story. The one i played today involved a regular soilder coming into contact with a giant enemy mech that threatens you and forshadows some of whats next.

2. Irina in chapter 7. Without much context her actions seem gung ho and brave. Just typical JRPG anime stuff and Elma contextualising her actions later makes sense buf as exposition. Knowing Irina's journey from all the sidequests in my first playthrough.

The Writing in this game is incredible. Its such a shame this game actively makes it so difficult for the player to see all the incredible work Monolith Soft have put into this title

3. While many of the food jokes in this game grow stale very quickly. Looking at you Tatsu. The Manons love of Pizza is great

I'm gonna be streaming this in about an hour, just doing normal/basic missions - what level should I aim for the party to be for Chapter 7?

Also, what is the best use of miranium & money at this point in the game?

28 and one player has a skell worked for me and was relitively painless.
Edit: level 30 is a requirement for chapter 8 and you will probably have completed the other requirements already just in the process of playing. So may as well get everyone to level 30 and get chapters 7 and 8 done in relitively quick succession.

Spend Mirranium on Arms manufacturers to get better gear and the social "give others mirranium quests from the bulletin board to quickly level up character affinity." Consider doing those with under leveled characters that you likely rarely use like Lao and Gwin since both have mandatory afinity requirements at some point in the game.

Once you hit level 30, a party full of skells can grind to level 50/60 relitively quickly so get a few and do that if you want. Although thats easiest after chapter 9. Level doesnt really matter in this game. Arts, Skills, Gear and Augments are far more important. So start to work out you end game build and work towards that.

Finally. If you havent already done this, you have likely fully leveled a tier 4 class by now. So change to another class but keep the Weapons and Arts of your first class to increase DPS. (Duelist, Astral Crusader and Mastermind seem the most useful so work towards maxing them out)

Cool, thanks for the tips - currently at level 24 in the middle of Chapter 26. Despite the fact I managed to clear out quite a few normal/basic missions, I didn't even level up!

Yeah the games experience scaling is very dependant on the player beating higher level enemies. Beating enemies that are the same level as you or lower has very little effect.

The first time i played through every possible sidequest up to around chapter 5 or 6 and was still underleveled. Try and find solo enemies that are a higher level then you that you can grind on. The smaller the better as they die faster.

Decided to come back to finish all the remaining affinity and the first quest I do deal with Nopon getting killed and eaten, complete
with corpses and bones
.

I forgot how brutal this game could be sometime

The default Skell frame does suck. Can anyone tell me which frame and equipment I should be aiming for?
Go for a level 30 Amdusias. Yes, it's more expensive than the others and doesn't give you access to the most exciting builds, but it will last you all the way until you hit Level 50. Min maxing the DPS is an activity for the end game. For now, go for something tanky that hits hard.

With all the blue skies, nightglow forrests and Jurassic Park style indigens its easy to forget that these characters lost their homes and almost everyone that they cared about when earth was destroyed and they have been hunted and on the run for years on end up against a superior alien force. Mira is basically a blue sky World of Ruin

This is especially true for Elma and Irina who are basically Battle Star Galactica's Starbuck and Apollo. Aka elite combat pilots who have been going up against relentless waves of enemy mechs and overwhelmingly poor odds almost constantly since they left Earth.

Dont do this. Buy 3 Verus skells. They cost half as much as the Amdusias and they come with the G buster weapon already equipped. 3 of these plus your free skell should have you up to level 50 in no time and then you can sell them off to buy a powerful level 50 Skell

Edit: just got done with chapter 8. Forgot that was chapter 8. That was awesome. Time to get on to chapter 9

Going to double post since its new info.

-Beat Chapter 9. Probably should have leveled up a little more as i had to turn down the dificulty on that fight, but for now its all good. After that rushed through the the flight module mission and grinded up to level 50 nice and quick thanks to the G-Busters attatched to the Verus Skells. So Now Im just doing Side Missions.

Doing side missions at level 50 is fun. Combat is still suprisingly challenging. The best part about it is that you rarely feel overwhelmed by large mobs. Ive also been mixing in Gwin into my party. He dies alot since he's barely level 30 but he will be up to speed in no time.

-Cecelia is giving me Melia from Xenoblade Chronicles vibes. I didnt use her much last time. Going to remedy that this time since my main team could use a good Psyrocorrupter.

Time for more sidequests, and saving for that level 50 Amdusias. Im excited. Going to start focusing on frontier NAV and upping my take home income

I got the urge to start this game fresh and play from the beginning and not even give a care in the world to the story missions. Zelda and Persona are coming soon though. Need more gaming time!

I used a guide to get a bunch of money all at once. I didn't even have the optimal probes to do it. It's like this:

site 316- Booster 2
Site 321- Booster 2
Site 315- Duplicator
Site 318- Research(I used 4)
Site 312- Research(again, using a 4)

I didn't have two booster 2's either, and I still made a bunch of cash.

Ended up just going through chapter 10 after completing a few sidequests. Being overleveled and starting to better understand the mechanics of it all helps. Blew away that boss like it was nothing.

Other thoughts
-man i felt really bad for lin after doing the repair job. Everyone is having a rough go of it, but she just cares so much.
-i got an NPC killed by ignoring a problem in a regular mission. Choice and consaquences are a real thing.
- Gwinn is like a non shitty version of a Bioware love interest

Finally. Im just working out how each party member has an ideal weapon damage build (fire, beam ect)

Could use some help. I'm trying to do the Sparking a Smile quest with the Nippon caravans and Jitsu at one of them has a question mark over his head and won't do anything except ask where Brotherpon Tatsu went...

I can't accept a quest from him or anything. What am I supposed to do?

Edit: the Sparking a Smile quest is fine I'm just confused about this dude who seems like he should be giving me a quest.

Maybe put Lyn in your party so Tatsu is tagging along?

So I picked this back up again last night.

I dropped the game at about level 42 after I finished chapter 10 about 9 months ago, mostly because I got frustrated with the amount of systems and things in my way of making a combat build that had decent flow to it.

Well I decided to tough it out and get everything together to actually try out combat as it was intended by grinding out the last 4 classes I had left (the commando ones)

My build wass kid of a mess. It's all the photon saber garbage I could mount on and a ramjet rifle with melee boosting skills and TP gen wherever I can get it.

When the build works I feel unstoppable but if something happens and I get stuck with less than 3k TP vs something big I am basically dead.

What really helped was looking up ways to build my teammates so they're actually useful lol.

I am slowly beginning to see the inner workings of the game and I kinda just wanna rush to end game asap so I can really get to tinkering.

My todo list right now as far as priority goes is
1. Max all classes
2. Do missions to get skills i want but am missing
3. Get level 50 skells
4. Finish main story
5. Grind things for augments to put builds together
5.5. Figure out how gear actually works (right now I just stack one damage type every where and because of that I have basically only used one kind of photon saber, the one with melee boost on it and high base damage and TP gen)

It's a lot of work but I am motivated, any of you guys have any suggestions or comments?

I made a poor financial choice. Sold all my Skells to afford a level 50 frame and it wasn't worth it. Only could afford a cheaper frame and it is not going to be enough to farm money. :\ This might be my real breaking point with the game. Stuck on the chapter 10 boss fight too.

Start by building your arts palate. Find arts that compliment eachother. Then support those arts with the best passive skills that have synergy with those arts.

Each main NPC has a specific ideal weapon damage. Ie Lin = Thermal ect. So take that into acount. Upgrade all your arms manufacturers to level 5 and get gear with inbuilt augments that dont suck.

That should be more then enough to clear the main game. Remember fighting enemies lower leveled then you wont really help you level up. So grind up an OP main party (lin elma Irina is the simplest and easiest) then just use them + skells to cary your 4th low level teammate to level up the 4th party member until they quickly reach your level. Its relitively easy to use 3 skells to quickly grind to level 50 and it wont effect combat balance all that much.

Finally if you use a lot of TP skills you want Potential auguments and at least 1 teammate with last stand to quickly rebuild it.

Cool thanks for the advice, I reworked my team which makes things way easier (still mostly just elma, lin and Irina but it works) and I managed to get my level 50 skell and it's so much fun, the rest of my team doesn't do anything in their level 30s. The fight against prog ares was kind of a joke lol. I've got pretty much all the major classes done, but now i've realized what a fucking pain credits are in this game. Thankfully I really only ever spent money on skells so I had just enough to pick up a 50 one but since I only make 100k from frontier nav I suspect money is gonna be a huge point of annoyance in the near future.

I made a poor financial choice. Sold all my Skells to afford a level 50 frame and it wasn't worth it. Only could afford a cheaper frame and it is not going to be enough to farm money. :\ This might be my real breaking point with the game. Stuck on the chapter 10 boss fight too.

Wot? I just got a level 50 Lailah and threw on some random level 50 intergalactic stuff I got while grinding out rank and if shit some how survives past the g-buster then they've got a phoenix coming in hot that wipes them.

I've been grinding level 64s with this thnig lol.

That sounds brutal. With the level 10 boss fight it has weak points on the side/back, so you can leave your party to tank damage in the middle and take it out virtually solo assuming you have the flight module by now. Use weapons auguments that do extra damage on the back/side and against robots

If you really want extra money/extra skells, the easiest way is to leave your wiiu on overnight/for a few days. Then buy a few low level skells. Either that or there is a cave in noctilum with lots of diamond items that you can just run around for a few minutes and reset

Woo just beat the main story. What a series of insane events lol.
The pacing of this games story was all over the place, it really didn't feel like teh story was kicking in until the last 4 missions or so.

Anyways on to the post game! Time to get some real gear lol. Any idea where I should start?

Some of the best ground abilities are hidden behind character afinity missions, so id suggest building a new 4 character team and start doing the basic missions you have left to do and start leveling up character afinity.

Some characters are better then others obviously so maybe google a little or just pick the ones you like the most. Plus doing extra afinity missions really rounds out the story. Im doing my 2nd playthrough and the the amount of stuff that is foreshadowed by going all in on the side missions is noticible

It forshadows practically every major event in the game including the Wow moments at the end. Plus a lot of the supporting characters are great so thats a plus. Google Blossom Dance build its an OP ground gear setup you might like.

Finally shelved the game and I feel relieved. Game was eating up too much of my little free time, and I honestly wasn't enjoying it all that much.

Yeah I started working on that stuff last night, I got zero zero and I am working on phenomenon at the moment. It's crazy how support missions speed up most of the grind of the game. 2 minutes for 48bp is nuts.

I ended up renting this game as I wasn't sure if I would like it I have few questions, does the combat get more advanced? Is their no way to turn down/off the music is so annoying ?!

Edit: After searching every menu and google it seems you can't change the audio settings WTF Monolith Soft?! I can't hear the dialog at times as the music is to loud! itit kills the atmosphere...what a load of fail I'm sending this game back.

Just finished the 2nd last chapter. I suppose this is where a huge part of the Narative dissonance takes over. I still need to do a bunch of sidequests and buy a level 50 skell that i cant afford yet.

I have a lot of thoughts on this game, so i will probably put them into a Rppt thread. If anyone has any catchy title suggestions let me know. So far im thinking

It really needs to be taken slowly, and not rushed through. I'm going to do a second playthrough and just focus on normal and affinity missions.

I've been playing FF XV, and it makes me really miss the sidequests from XCX. I think this game rivals Witcher 3 for the amount of meaningful side content in it, but will probably never get the recognition it deserves for coming out on a failed system.

I gave the game another chance and I can handle having no sound settings, I did a lot of reading about the game mechanics and finding it a lot more fun now. I am only on chapter 3 doing some side quests & exploring I like the world of mira and its strange aliens.

Few questions as I am planing ahead:

Are the AI team mates good cable of being a Tank/healer class? Or should i focus on my charter being a tank?

Any tips on ok choosing a class for a certain role? or choosing a AM for certain class?

Anther other tips for complete noob to series would be helpful!

Edit: Just reached Rank 10 on Drifter

Is there a way to refresh squad tasks faster? Or do I just have to wait until after the timer hits 0 and then I get new ones given to me randomly?

Edit:

WOW I GOT THE ARES 90 AND HOLY SHIT LOL I DONT NEED A PARTY ANYMORE

THIS THING IS ACTUALLY 100 TIMES STRONGER THAN MY LEVEL 50 SKELL, IT CAN 1 HIT KO LEVEL 80 THINGS THAT WOULD PROBABLY HAVE TAKEN ME LIKE 15 MINUTES TO KILL

WHEW THIS IS NUTS

I feel like the game is finally starting for me.
