I got up to my first real real bossand I ended up fighting him for close to an hourBig guy with the face and allout of nowhere the fight just ended and somehow I won. Really really empty victory, can someone shed some light?not really doing damage, because he wouldnt get knocked over and for some reason NONE of my chain combo QTE things would land. I have no trouble doing it in regular battles, but they wouldnt land for almost a full hour...So I got no topples and
The break / topple combo only works during a chain attack in that fight (it tells you in the beginning). It's the same for some other enemies. If you tried it while using a chain attack, are you sure you started with an ability with the break property? In that case it should always hit.
Also, you kept fighting for an hour? Damn...
That's the thing..I couldn't get any chain QTE's going at ALL no matter when I timed the button. Trust me I had plenty of opportunities to get it during the battle and it just wouldn't register, except for when the fight first started I had one somehow, but no topple. Pretty confused as to why I seemed to be missing the QTE cue.
You don't need to chain the QTEs. If the blue bar in the top left is full, go to the art in the center (Monado) press down and select the blue button. That will initiate the chain attack. The QTEs have nothing to do with break/topple.
ah ok, so that's the problem. One of my party members was constantly dying and thus, I never sustained 3 bars for long. Understanding that makes me feel a bit better.
You can fill up the bar before the fight by fighting the normal monsters around there. It will slowly deplete if you are not it combat, but it may help for initially starting one.
Graphics are PS2 level and hideous haha.
What? I found the voice acting to be spot on. I am particularly enjoying the British accent and vocabulary. The gameplay in this is great so far, but I just can't get over how terrible the writing and the voice acting are.
It is crazy the amount of systems going on at once too, slowly diving into a few at a time.
I am not far in the game (just left Colony 9), but I didn't find a single useful item when trying to trade with any of the named NPCs there. I'm hoping it becomes more worthwhile later.I went through 40 hours of the game so far...only to just realize you can trade with people by pressing Y....

Um I think (ABOUT a certain character)There is a spoiler on the "reverse" box art. You see Fiora alive and with new people. I'm only about 4 hours in. I'm almost certain she comes back to life. Shulk probably can change the past some how or something
Holy Christ the live banter after battles is terrible and repetitive. Seriously took me just a few minutes to tire of it.
I like the voice acting otherwise. Pleasantly surprised.
I just went back through Colony 9 and traded with everyone I could find, during both day and night. I did manage to find a few collectable items and parts that I didn't already own. There didn't seem to be any immediate use for them, but I traded my extra stuff for them anyway, just in case. Trading did help with one collection quest I had (brog oil, I believe). I traded for the items instead of hunting. I also saw some armour that I could have traded for instead of buying, but I have better stuff now anyway.NPCs will offer more/better items as affinity of that area goes up.

Got in a solid 2 hours last night. Really digging it. Last 20-30 minutes I finally went into Colony 6 to sell/trade/buy/get quests. Only quest I went out to complete that wasn't an auto complete already was to kill that named slug thing on the coast outside of town.
I think I was level 10 and well equipped when I fought it, and it was missed 4/5 attacks on me, and the only real threat was when it hit me with it's Art that did 400 some damage raw and I was like oh shit! Beat it finally, and called it a night.
Does the game eventually have better conning for enemies? Starting out it's a bit off that a level 5 named mob was pretty much unbeatable for me until way better equipment and being 2x its level. Going to try the named bunny on the hill later tonight too.
All around, game is a blast. Gives me that nostalgia feel of good ol PS1/PS2 RPGs, while impressing me with shit like I can swim and jump, plus NO load screens? :O
Game is ace in the 3 hours I've played.
Whaaaat. I love it.Holy Christ the live banter after battles is terrible and repetitive. Seriously took me just a few minutes to tire of it.
Yes, it's there. I almost ordered it myself, but I just purchased the game at GS instead. What's this stuff about Xenoblade being available on GameFly I hear?
If you think you can predict the twists by looking at some concept art, you're in for a surprise. You're also way off.
Well, after 4 nights in a row of staying up 'til 3 AM, I can safely say that this game is as amazing as everyone has ever said.
I had been enjoying myself up until this point, but over the last two nights or so something just clicked. I'm not sure if it was the introduction of some new characters to spice up my party, switching the V.O. track to Japanese, or realizing that I could actually skip travel anywhere I wanted (not just to landmarks within your current area), but this game has started to get ridiculously fun.
I had thought the art design was a little plain at first, but as soon as I arrived at, I changed my tune. What a gorgeous experience. Monolith Soft managed to capture that feeling of marvel and spirit of adventure that has been missing from most modern RPGs.Satori Marsh
What? You can do that? How?
The huge spider that crawls up from beneath the cliff edge atOk folks, I want to hear your "oh shit" stories, because I can't tell you how many times my exploration expeditions ended with my party dying by getting poked by an unexpected level 70 monster. One that made me jump was finding this observation platform on the Gaur Plains and taking in the sights, only to get annihilated by a giant bird thing that flew up behind me, or walking along a beach and agroing a level 70 fish!
methinks you've forgotten what many PS2 rpgs looked like.
Use the shield art with the Monado. One level above the Queen wouldn't hurt either.
I just bought this game because I wanted a new good rpg, and to help supports its western release (in hopes of more western releases).

One thing I immediately noticed is that this game hits the disc drive a lot. I'm hoping the drive in my Wii isn't wearing out, but it sure does seem to make a lot of noise when accessing the disc, which this game does almost constantly. It seems to stream all the menus, voices, models, etc straight from the disc.
Also a tip to new players: every once in a while, go into the menu and check the tutorial section. Re-read the parts you don't understand and look for new sections. I repeatedly found new sections added during the entire Colony 9 sequence. It would be easy to miss these, since the game is inconsistent in pointing them out.
What's this stuff about Xenoblade being available on GameFly I hear?
Right, doing that (per tutorial), but I get raped (as Shulk) really quickly by something else. It's hard to grasp what's happening, everything is so fast I feel like it's out of my control. I'm not one with this battle system yet.
I did some quests and am now level 14 and have a lot more equipment, so we shall see.
I'm getting dominated byAny suggestions? I'm level 26.Xord
Haven't played the game (yet), but all this talk about how massive the game world is makes me curious about how it compares in size to other large game worlds, like those in Skyrim and Fallout.
Focus on the other Mechon around him, and remember to use Monado Enchant so your other party members can damage them. You can only really do serious damage to Xord when he's toppled, and you can only really topple him via a Chain Attack. In order to build up the party meter to chain, you're going to need to beat up on those little guys. Xord himself is pretty slow to attack and will give you a lot of free reign, only attacking infrequently.
Once you've got the party meter built up, switch your team's attention immediately to Xord and fire off your Chain Attack. Break with Shulk, Topple with Reyn, if Sharla has a Daze attack, use it, if not, just wail away on him. If Shulk has Shaker Edge he should use it after Xord is toppled to try and Daze him. Then just all out attack. If he manages to get up and unbroken, go back to the Mechon minions and start the process over again, although you likely would have built up a lot of the party meter already from your attacks on Xord.
Rinse and repeat, shatter any visions if necessary, and you should take him out. If you're still having issues, go get a level or two. Xord is level 25, so it shouldn't take much.

Antagon said:Also, you build your party gauge quicker by spamming your directional attacks from the right sides. If you need a monado art otoh you shouldn't use special attacks for a few seconds as that gauge fills on auto attacks.
