You talk to
Juju
and he will tell you the 'location' of one of the items and will usually give you insight into who else to talk to about the other items required for a specific step to upgrade.

Maybe I don't have enough people. I don't have more people because I need the items but I need the people to find the items which I need to get more people.

Yep. It basically closes off to you after your one trip through it. Plenty of annoying unique monsters too.
And they all seem to have Titan Stamp, Black Matter, or both, or other terrible attacks :(

No it doesn't. The close off doesn't happen until
you fight a "new" face mechon you haven't even met yet.

They haven't been doing that for me at all.

From my experience so far they just tell what zone it is from, not anything more specific. In a lot of cases though if the item is a drop it will have the monster's name in it which gives you a good enough hint to start looking. The blue orb items are the more tedious ones, though.

It's not a great system tbh but I am still trying to stick to the
colony 6 reconstruction
because I have a really weird love for this specific game mechanic.

It should be noted though that it can be (or maybe all, I am not sure) nameless NPCs and they are not out all day. For example the NPC who tells you the fossil monkey is in
Makna Forest
is outside the headquarter gate and is only around at night. You have to do a lot of time switching and make sure you talk to everyone to find the hints.

Well, I would definitely say this game is living up to the hype for me. I just got to my first really huge area (
the Bionis Leg
), and spent a lot of time running around. I'm enjoying just doing a ton of side stuff, but the story is pretty good, too. The characters are coming together, and I've liked a lot of the smaller scenes that just spend time building the world and the cast. I feel like I'm really getting sucked into the world. On top of that, the game keeps dropping in new systems. It's a lot to take in, but I love how much there is to do.

I'm always happy to have some Reyn time to play this game.

Yes, there is a cut off point. A specific cut off point. But it closes very early compared to any other region from point of first entry to where it cuts off. You basically have one run through. There's no more story to be progressed without ending the area.

Oh man things are about to get real!

I'm about to get Fiora back in my party :D

Aw man I got a little teared up when she was reunited with Shulk ;_;

I love this game.

I'm almost at the end of this game now after taking a break from it. I really wanted to do the whole
Colony 6 reconstruction
before finishing it off, but I just think it is all dealt with really badly.

I'd been led to believe (can't recall where I read it) that all important items had the white cross next to them and so could sell or trash anything else. But that really wasn't the case at all. And now I'm missing a ton of items that I have no desire to go farm. That plus I have had to take to checking a wiki and writing down everything I need.

That is a shame and really goes against how well the game does pretty much everything else. So on with trying to beat
Lorithia

If you haven't
even beaten lorithia yet, you can't finish the C6 rebuild anyway. the last items are in the last room before you meet the real endboss...
and the game NEVER said it would mark ALL items ;)
also I don't understand why you would sell them all, it's not like you could buy a house if you got 4 million in cash at the end.

The problem I have is that I'm entirely out of inventory space for Materials and I'm just going down the
Ether Mine
.

I'm confused as I had the impression from various folks that you didn't need to worry about inventory, but mine is entirely maxed out and I have no idea what materials I can safely discard.

Yeah I simply ran out of space because I was hoarding everything. I reached said destination and recall asking online somewhere (don't think it was here) which items I should be hanging on to, as I knew what was coming up, and several people were under the impression at the time, that items with a white cross were the ones to keep and anything else could be sold. So to free up inventory space I sold items with no white cross, and low and behold I needed them later on.

I'm stuck with needing to reach level 4 next with each requirement and just can't muster up the energy to go farming for stuff.

It just seemed so oddly set up compared with how side quests are dealt with so slickly. It does beg the question, what does the white cross signify?

Ugh the worst part of the game are fetch quests related to blue orb items. It's great if you happen to have all of them before you initiate the quest but when you don't and you actually have to look for them it really sucks the fun out.

I don't know how much I have into the game, but I finished the
first invasion on Colony 9 since the huge battle

So not too far into it really. So far I love the damn game. I'm messing around the whole world exploring more than anything. Killed my first unique monster. Felt good because before I killed it, it had killed me 3 damn times.

The white cross marks rare and really expensive materials, and they are not necessarily quest items either. The one thing I did when I ran out of space was:
sort by price, go to the last page and sell all small pouches without a mark (the small ones are worthless and common drops)

Most, if not all blue orb items can be traded with NPCs. This is especially useful for
colony 6 reconstruction
. Just google around for guides who to trade to for what item if you want to do that without going crazy.

Trading and
Colony 6 restoration
sometimes help make this a little less obnoxious than it would otherwise be.

well 14 hours in and i'm finally
at colony 6: the actual colony 6, after beating xord. level 28 right now

overlevelled slightly at the moment, but i'm looking forward to just kinda hacking away at things for a while. then i'll go back to the leg and take care of some of those level 32s that were causing me trouble earlier.

glad to finally be in a new area though.

As the resident Arcadia fan, what do you think of the
restoring colony 6 quest?

I'm past 40 hours. I stopped playing for two days now. I'm starting to feel a little disconnect with the main character. I hope that doesn't remain the case later. Hope to get back to the game soon.

You have to say "Fiora, Fiora, Fiora" for every day you haven't played.
Voila, you're back in character.

I think I have one unique monster left and one collectable (Delirium Foxglove or something, I can't find it AT ALL), so I'm just gonna say fuck it and finish the whole area.

I cant believe people are still getting those little colors popping up. I had that happen to my launch Wii for leaving Wii connect 24 on (so pointless anyway) And Nintendo fixed it for free. This was probably in 08 though. I remember the system would be so hot from the Wii connect 24. Worth a shot to call nintendo and tell them and maybe they'll fix it. They transferred all my games and saves as well.

Playing this game makes me wish more then ever that the Wii U would do some upscaling of any kind when it comes to playing Wii games on it.
Your HDTV inherently upscales the Wii to its native resolution. Do you mean "filtering" or "anti-aliasing"?

i noticed i could buy some of the intermediate skill arts but not all, (30hrs in) how do i acquire the rest?

On my first playthrough, I completely missed a lot of Melia's intermediate skill because I missed the Nopon merchant right outside Colony 6, so don't forget to go back there and check him out.

Only briefly played...finally...the other night and made to the first Outpost (I know, more like 'barely' played). I was playing with the Japanese voices and subtitles. I did not have the volume up too high as the wife was sleeping on the couch. I am fairly sure I looked through every menu selection, but I could not find an option to turn down the music volume. Is there one?

I don't mind the music constantly playing, but it is generally mixed too high in volume in relation to the voices. Granted, I am more sensitive to this, being hard of hearing. But due to that fact, even if I turn the volume up, it will only increase the sound level overall. That won't help my bad ears differentiate between music and voices.

I may even try the English dub, but I have always enjoyed playing JRPGs with original voicing and subtitles. Subtitles are always on in any game I play and I have headphones for the 360/PS3 downstairs. I Have headphones on the TV itself where I play the Wii and would just have to move some wires in order to use. But again, same issue. The music is at a too 'overwhelming" level.

He means the Wii U outputting the game at a higher resolution.
Natively rendering Wii games at higher than 480p? Not going to happen. I suspect Nintendo won't even upscale to the Wii U's selected output resolution. It will just dump the same old Wii 480p anamorphic signal without modification.

Game is so good. Just got Riki and beat that dinoboss thing. I tell you one thing, when you defeat a boss in this game, it's so satisfying. Right now my party is Shulk, Reyn and that magic girl. She hardly ever gets hit and she has really good buffs. I'm loving the whole jungle area and how fucking wide open it is. And then I see a bunch of level 90s and I haul ass it in the other direction

Do you not realize how useless it is to simply spoiler-tag an entire post with zero context? smh

Some character notes:
The AI does a poor job of handling Melia. Really the only party member that the AI has significant problems with. She is most effective as a nuker, and she can rack up some of the top damage in the game, but she has to be handled in a very particular way to do it. Check out this post for some detailed analysis on Melia's abilities.

I don't think it's going to happen either, but sure would be nice.

This for sure. It really sucks in
Agnirintha
since you have do ALL of the quests there in order to unlock its Secret Area.
One of the quests has you searching for an item that's a Collectable and it has a low appearance rate. Spent like 30 minutes getting enough of said item, no joke.

And of course, some of the
Colony 6
stuff has you hunting down rare collectibles that VERY RARELY show up at all. Definitely worth looking into stuff to see if you can trade for said items.

Just got my affinity to two stars in Colony 9. I just spent a whole session running around talking to people and doing a handful of sidequests. A lot of the ones around town and such are pretty neat.

Well people are really sensitive to character and plot progression. I try not to take any chances.

Yeah, that's why you give some indication outside of spoiler tags so that people know whether or not they can highlight the rest of your post. Otherwise, it's useless to anyone who hasn't beaten the game or just doesn't care about spoilers.

The world design in this game is just fantastic. I can't stress enough how easy it has been for me to just start wandering around and get lost in each one of the areas I've been so far. So many great touches. The higher level monsters are so incredibly imposing, they make this huge impact whenever they appear. It's similar to dragons in Skyrim, but with better art, fewer bugs, and more fun.

I have the whole weekend ahead of me in about 4 hours where I'm just going to go dick nasty on this game. Going to take my 4 hours of playtime and push it to 20+ I hope.

You have to play to the AIs strategy when it is controlling that party member. Meaning its most effective when
you're about to use a chain attack since AI goes with stacking 3 summons then discharge after waiting about (unless you mash the attack order then it discharges then all ASAP). 3 summons means 3 white Arts on Melia's turn in chain attacks=easier multiplier maxing.

I really hope everyone at Bethesda plays this game. They can learn a lot.

F'real. Every little nook and cranny of this game is jam-packed interesting things to see and do. Feel like I'm gushing a little, but I just discovered the
Divine Sanctuary
in
Makna Forest
, and I'm standing gazing out over the scenery realizing why everyone falls so deeply in love with this game.
