I'm really digging the character designs. Playing with lots of JRPGs starting from way back, this distinct design will just give its own unique flavor against the other JRPGs.

So guys, how are you reacting to the character creation?

I lost my hype after seeing that we aren't going to follow a specific character story like we did with Shulk.

I like it and am totally fine with it. not a detriment at all. That said, I'm open to both and have trust that the direction & story will be fine no matter the choice to go with silent or characterized.

I didn't like Shulk as much either, so maybe that helps.

I remember seeing "Space Rihanna" in the twitch chat.

That kind of thing is what made my view on the player-created character shoot up to vastly "in favor of it." Watching the stream, seeing the character be a purple-haired space Rihanna but with a male name, then the high pitched Japanese female voice, all made me ready to cast aside Shulk in favor of this.

Looking at the Class list so far for the main character we have

Drifter

Assault
- Samurai Gun
-- (Unknown)
- Shield Battler
-- Heavy Striker

Command
- Sword Fang
-- FullMetal Jaguar
- Long Lancer
-- Star Crusader

Forcer
- Psy Seeker
-- Elite Planner
- Blast Fencer
-- Galaxy Knight

They said the names aren't final so they might be different in the full version. Apparently every character is supposed to have their own set so I'm not sure if it means some are shared or not.

Yeah, just from those small tidbits I can already tell I'm going to spend a lot of time making my character.

Never heard of the composer. I hope the music turns out good

I posted a couple of his tracks earlier.
Hiroyuki Sawano is the composer for X, and he's done some incredible work.

Until today, I didn't know a decent number of people disliked his music. The Attack on Titan OST seems to be one of the few things about the show people generally agree on liking in the off-topic section.

I'll take Sawano over Shimomura any day. Of course, I'd rather have Mitsuda back. Hopefully he does the ending song again.

How could you hate Shimomura this much?! She da best

This man knows his shit:

finally somebody picked the best song (next to most
Mechonis field themes
), and I thought I was the only one who loved it.

-----
To clarify, I don't exactly dislike Sawano, just what I've heard has been pretty mediocre. Nothing memorable.

But to each his own!

I feel that Sawano's track are either overly grandiose or pretty one-dimensional in tone.

I'm not quite sure how his music will sound like in Xenoblade X's Satorl Marsh/Valak Mountain areas, though it may just fit better due to movement speed getting an upgrade with the dashing and the mechs.

Hang on, there's recovery arts in this video. Why did the Treehouse guy say the only way to recover was with Soul Voice?

The recovery arts only work on you/the character your using. Soul Voice is the only way to recover team-mates who don't have recovery skills of their own.

I'm not sure why anyone's complaining about the music. If a track isn't how Takahashi wants it to sound he'll send it right back and tell Sawano how he wants it changed, same as he did with Xenoblades music.

I think it's more a vocal minority than anything.

From what I have seen, I love everything and I know that the game will only get more polish before its release. If it is even a 10th as good as Xenoblade, I will be more than happy. Plus, I am a big sucker for character customization and I can't wait to dig in and see what character I can build.

Only negative, it comes out next year, but I am fine with that. Nintendo already has me wanting three games before the end of the year, so I can afford the wait.

What an odd thing to say. Of course Takahashi will decide which kind of direction he wants the songs to go, but he can't do anything about the composer's style. If you don't like how Sawano songs sound, no amount of directing or interference or whatever from Takahashi will make them better.

It's a weird thing though. I don't know what it is about Shimomura's songs, but I usually recognize them, like without even knowing why. Sometimes I just go "this sounds like something Shimomura would compose" and check the game's wikipedia page and lo and behold, it is her.

Took a screenshot from the second gameplay-video, love this camera angle, they're so small down there. We know how large the town is and that's still small compared to the area.

Game gives me some really strong Outcast-vibes, I love Outcast.

he is a god. You should check out soundtracks from Attack on Titan, Blue Exorcist and Killa la Kill to get an idea of his sense of epic...his compositions are crammed with so much emotion it's unreal

What. Shimomura is a GODDESS!

In all seriousness, she's my favorite game composer (probably not surprising considering how much I love Kingdom Hearts tho lol). Mitsuda is way up there, too, though.

It could be something like White Knight Chronicles, in that you create your own character but there are other main characters who drive the plot and do important stuff.

I hope X handles it better than WKC (which was executed poorly). My character in that game was always in the background always making a disinterested/nonchalant expression no matter what was being said or going on. I didn't even care to control that character.

The gameplay looks a lot uglier than the very short clips and gifs all of gaf was orgasming over a while ago. The character models don't look that good, or the terrain (that foliage - ew), a bunch of other things. It could still be a great game, but visually unappealing to me, I wonder if it got a graphical downgrade since the first few clips, or if those just looked so much better for being hand picked (and compressed to shit gifs that hid the low res textures)

I hope the "Forcer" line of classes is based on magical stuff. I just really want some variety in how you can play. Melee-based, ranged-based, tank-based, magic-based, etc. That's one thing I think Xenoblade did well. I could switch to any given character and have a new play style. Or I hope you can control the other characters in the party if nothing else.

I'm not seeing this at all - it looks exactly the same (or better) to me.

There was no graphical downgrade. The graphics have only improved since the first video.

It still says "Huge succeeded" even now in the IGN demo??

Lots of pop in, look at that IGN video right after they beat the three armored thingies at the end, literally all of the grass takes a second to fade in.

This has made me go back and start playing through more of Xenoblade Chronicles on the Wii. Hot dang, the combat system is good. I like that it starts off simple, then slowly starts unlocking things the enemies can do, like spike counters and such.

Huge succeeded probably won't be fixed until they have a localized build.

Hopefully the pop in will be fixed/improved in the coming months though.

Xenoblade had a lot of pop-in as well, so I'm really not expecting that to be fixed at all. Maybe they will improve it somewhat, but with a world that large and a view distance that long, it's to be expected.

Most areas weren't THAT bad about pop in. Makna Forest was the worst and that whole new area was like a Makna Forest redux.

Kakaka no wonder people keep the Bloodborne trailers press only and the E32009 Monado build behind closed doors. We have a year left in development, and what was shown just as may well been from an older build.

Strangely enough, there really is a LOT of pop-in, but the framerate seems pretty solid. I haven't noticed it dropping much. Just hope that they can make an E32009 to a final release type of leap before the game actually ships out.

What? You can zoom out that far?

I mean, there will be situations where some of your party will be in mechs and some will be on foot, you'll need to be able to pull out farther than that when you have that scenario on those giant brontosaurus style enemies.

Honest question, Skyrim is huge, but does the map also come with creatures as big as this roaming it? I "played" Oblivion but I never saw any giant creatures. I know Skyrim has dragons, but they're nowhere near as big.

Through mods it does.

The bolded. My gut instinct says that this game will release around the same time as Bayonetta is this year. So they have more than a year to get better and pass Nintendo's QC... hopefully looking as good as Zelda U ;)

I have a feeling that I'll really enjoy the characters in this game, since the main character is actually just you, it will leave more time to develop the side characters, even if they dont turn out to be these amazing characters, the character interactions will surely be good, thats mostly why OG xenoblade's cast were so likeable despite not breaking any ground.
