)
I've played only with Shulk
;(
Edit: With Reyn and Sharla.
Did I play it wrong?
Has there ever been a game with a plot point where a character creation system served as a crux for the character?
I was hoping the reason you were in a pod was because you were an artificial being, but that doesn't seem to be the case here.
One thing is certain; they will never top the setting from the first game. The two giants concept was amazing.
I can't get over how bad the character models look in the game.
It's not just the technical side of things, it's that the art doesn't translate well in 3D.
(yes, it's the same game, I double checked it. It's even in the trailer)
It's not a technical thing, it's purely a design choice.
Character models can look quite good
(the trailer just isn't very flattering...)
is it true the graphics took a hit since the initial reveal? that gif in the op looks amazing still to me.

I actually ran up all the way a few days before the game originally launched in Europe because someone was asking the same thing. I can't exactly remember but it took about 45-55 minutes. It's probably still somewhere in the original OT...
apparently not in Europe (yet)
The thing is.. besides the visions, every other char could basically do the same thing, one way or the other + they were more interesting to play. Especially Melia and Seven were pretty overpowered... even if Seven is probably on top when it comes to maximum dps, Melia on the other hand is versatile as fuck and can do pretty much everything you need: buff your comrades, kill mechon (without the Monado or anti mechon weapons), stop fatal attacks, ridiculously high dps and she also completely breaks the game with her kick.
The games biggest flaw is how well it sets you up with the initial party. You feel save with shulk, reyn and sharla without realizing that it's basically the worst combination possible.
(I beat all the post game 100+ Bosses with Melia, Dunban and Seven btw)
I felt Nintendo's treehouse showcase of the game wasn't done correctly at all, showing off a lvl 1 gunner character is like the worst thing you can do to show off the battle system. More noob friendly to play yes, but not exactly exciting to watch.
Hoped someone actually knows the game in and out from MonolithSoft would demo it instead.

Can't find it in the german eShop.OMG OMG treehouse X in 1080p on my TV eShop
YESSSSSSSSS
The character wasn't a gunner character. The character can switch between melee or ranged attacks depending on the distance they are from the enemy. The reason why they chose range was because they were not strong enough to take out a lot of those monsters without dying or being badly injured, so they had the CPU do most of the grunt work while they played back-up. If they grinded more, than they could move in and do more melee attacks.
It wasn't about them not knowing the game, but more about them not wanting to die multiple times since they only had so much time to show the game.
The live stream did no justice
I wonder if we will have multiple races in the chara creator, that would be nice.
I agree wih you because the poor tester from Tree house did what he could since he didn't know a bit of japanese.Hoped someone actually knows the game in and out from MonolithSoft would demo it instead.
Yea, and I would say they are not well prepared if they don't have a save file that was created specifically to show off the battles better and/ or show some more high level stuff from monolith. It is not difficult really unless they have not made anything yet for higher levels.
I generally used Shulk, Dunban, and Seventh for the late game and 100+ bosses, iirc.

Same here. It's my ending party of choice. With skills like criticals heal, double attacks are criticals, etc, this party is really above the rest as far as I'm concerned.
But through most of the game, I just main Melia.
It would melt my heart. For that reason alone it won't happen, this is Nintendo after all.Any chance Nintendo bundles this game with the first Xenoblade ala Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2? THAT WOULD BE A SMART DECISION RIGHT?

Also a tip for new owners - DO NOT USE SHULK, REYN, AND SHARLA THE ENTIRE GAME. Worst combo! I mean, it's functional, but very boring and fights are actually harder in some ways. And don't use Shulk full time either. Switch characters around often and try new people - they each have a different playstyle which adds a lot of variety to the game.
I guess showing the full 40 minutes of time they had as a starter player and the reasons for doing so is ok, but the first impression for people that doesn't know a thing about the game would have the impression that the battles is just like that (stay out of the hotter zones in general to not die and looking quite blend comparing to what I was used to in xenoblade etc), which is kind of the way it would look when you are talking about the game and playing at the same time for some people, that's completely fine, but just doesn't serve the game right imo. for one I know that I wouldn't share this video to my friends due to how they are playing it in the battle parts.

Everyone talking about which 3 characters make the best party, only serves to further reinforce my conviction that RPGs need to have at least 4 character party compositions, minimum, in order to have truly robust and engaging battles. I prefer 5-6, but thank goodness Monolith had enough insight to give us 4. Tank/Nuke/Heal: Take Nap.
It really would make sense for Nintendo to HD port XenoBlade. Like really.

Well if they can outsource it without taking anything away from the X team.Agreed. Release the HD remake this year so the pain is lessened waiting for the new game.

I think Xenoblade's combat is something you need to experience to be sure if you'll like it or not (assuming you're skeptical).
Even though it can be compared to MMO's, Xenoblade's combat didn't really feel like one to me. I think that's partly due to your vocal comrades and how they interact, as well as the Future avoidance mechanic as well as having many arts that require either working with your team to pull off (Topple) or require proper positioning to achieve their full effect.
It also helps that every character plays differently. I'm assuming they'll be improving on these aspects in Xenoblade X.
this post is begging for an avatar quote lol its cool man you have choices that is important, they gave us choices![]()
That guy doesn't look like he should exist in a world with Nopon and cat people, haha! Or even when he's standing next to Elma it looks weird since Elma has an anime-ish look.

I think the demo was really great in terms of showing a lot of things without spoiling too much of the game. Let us remember that this is a JRPG and a demo build. Hard to cover everything while not revealing too much. Basically it showed a lot of new things to excite Xenoblade fans, and the beginning is needed to be shown to see the new concept, which is creating the main character. For newcomers it's usually easier to appreciate the game once you are playing rather than watching.
This is one of my complaints about 'modern' RPGs, the reduction in standard party size from 4 (or 5) characters to 3. During the PS1 era it was done for technical reasons... the system wasn't powerful enough to render 4 characters, multiple enemies and backgrounds at the same time. But that limitation no longer applies.
That said, it really depends on the battle system/gameplay, and some games work fine with 3 character parties, especially if you can swap out characters in real time (FF X) or change jobs on the fly (FF X2).
Is it confirmed that X has 4 person parties? While I didn't really mind the 3 person parties in the first game, larger parties would be welcome.
