Xenon Controller revealed? (Apparently leaked pics inside)

It'll probably be awesome but only for the two games miyamoto is planning to produce. Fucking Nintendo pisses me off sometimes and I'm a fan.

5 more weeks…

No more A/B/X/Y buttons then? Looks like they're just colors now.

I wish every console maker would adopt letters for their buttons.

It's interesting to look back on the first mentions of this kind of styling/design from Kotaku (I believe this was the first?):

http://www.kotaku.com/gaming/gossip/xbox-2/xbox-360-revealed-033435.php

The Xbox 360° will be about winning over gamers of all persuasions, with a customizable look and a kindler, gentler Circle of Light marketing campaign.

Our Cali source says that the console is a sleek silver device worthy of countertop display, and features an inhaled design that turns the harsh angles of the original Xbox into sweeps and curves. The device will also be able to stand upright or on it’s side, much like the Playstation 2. The side of the 360° is dominated by an oversized, back-lit power button called the ring of light, and the rest of the case can be customized with colorful designer face plates that pop on and off. The 360°s dashboard will also be customizable, making each console a thing totally unique to its owner.

Perhaps the silver was dumped in favour of something more white like this. Though to be honest, you could class the controller above as "silvery white" ;)

What exactly would an "inhaled" design look like? The customisable snap on faceplates would be neat..different games could come with new ones in limited edition packs etc. Kind of like the RE4 faceplate for GCN in that Euro bundle, but extended.

No. Take a look at the picture again.

Looks like the buttons still have the A/B/X/Y on 'em.

While it's nothing "revolutionary", I quite like what they have done with new controller. They have kept what works and fixed what doesn't. Moving the black and white buttons and making them digital shoulder buttons (along with the triggers) is a great move. People always bitched about the Z button the GCN controller but I thought the placement of the black and white buttons were far far worse. I still can't believe Sony insists on keeping the D-Pad (which is shitty to begin with) in the primary position on the controller and having those awful shoulder buttons. Also the sticks are too lose ;p. Very overrated controller IMO.

This Xenon controller really is the best controller layout that I can imagine at this point in time. If it were as comfortable to hold as a GCN controller it would be just about perfect!

it wasnt just the placement of the black and white buttons that were horrible it was also the fact that they were different than the other buttons and when you pressed them it felt like there was no resistance. you can thank pelican for the "make the black and white buttons shoulder buttons" idea

Well i guess that confirms it, all the pics are gone now :)

They are? Though this could possibly happen later when MS lawyers wake up ;) That said, it's probably too late, and it keeps people speculating about X360, so..

White controller, launching before much hyped Sony machine... it really IS Dreamcast 2.

its even got high key sega developers!

when i was younger i would always say "someday microsoft will buy sega" and it seems little by little they are, just without the name.

also is that a trackball in the center? (360 omg!)

Yeah, I know that pic, but the design neither looks "sleek" (i.e. swept curves) or customisable faceplates (though it's hard to tell..certainly THAT one doesn't look to be sporting any snap-on plates ;)). So I'm hoping that's just a prototype and that the real thing is closer to what is suggested in that article..

Though the finish on that one could be similar to the controller. Similar colours anyway.

Battery compartment = Wireless :)

This looks like a controller in the final phases. They're probably testing it for feel, etc. It doesn't look like a render or nothing, but the PSP does make it suspicious...unless this guy's only connection to the internet is a PSP....

Controllers have probably been sent out to developers now, so that's probably where this is being leaked from. If not, hopefully the guy who leaked this can also show us what the final console looks like ;) I'd say it's very close to final, bar aesthetic alterations and some polish if and where necessary.

I only have one complaint and that is the kind of plastic it uses. I prefter the matte finish plastic because a) a little grip, and b) sweat on shiny plastic like that causes it to become extremely slippery and hard to handle.

Very interesting, it could really be it (except for the shiny plastic surface, this could only be a cheap prototype).

By the way, doesn't this look very similar to this previous "leaked" image? (sorry for the watermark, it's from my site: I coudn't find the original image)

Except for the Back and Start buttons that have now been replaced by the big central circle and for the presence of a connection cable, I'd say it's quite similar.

The all white one is a photoshop by one of the people in that thread at TXB. :lol

It's the exact controller from that pic with the two side by side, he just bleached the color out.

Noone read through that thread I guess.

Why does everyone keep getting confused about the PSP in these pictures?

The whole point is it's supposed to be mysterious and viral, right?

Many the the oc.net photos with the ant logo had PS-related stuff in the background.

Ourcolony.net said that the "winner takes all". TeamXbox is top of the leaderboard so I am guessing they got the scoop or something? What with their logo in these pics.

Edit: erm, or something. (???!)

I think it still does have the Start and Back buttons in the middle (to the left and right of the circle, which I think will be xbox branded). I think this is just a quickly made mock-up 'shape' of the controller, not a functional prototype, so I suspect the buttons are all solid and not-pressable at the moment.

I like this design though, I think it's probably the best compromise on controller design they could have gone for. Moving the black and white to shoulder buttons is a great move. I like six face buttons, but only when done properly (ie. Saturn controller).

Yeah right, I noticed now that the two buttons are aside the great one. And yes, I agree about the mock-up hypothesis: if you look at the four buttons on the right, they seem to be "painted" upon white plastic.

That glossy finish is probably more expensive than the more tradition matte plastic one. But yes, it may only be for prototypes and glamour shots..since as pxleyes mentions, such a finish may not be conducive to good grip in sweaty conditions. A finish that felt "grippy" while looking glossy would be the best compromise IMO, if that's even possible.

what's the little circle top centre? placeholder for an xbox logo, or a little trackball in a stupid location?

I mentioned this earlier - it doesn't look like a trackball to me at all. Far too flush with the surface of the controller. It's speculated that it's a on/off button for the controller, since it's wireless. The ring around it lights up when you turn it on ("circle of light" etc.). Makes sense.

looks like a 3rd party xbox controller... but it could be real...

That look pretty hot. I bet the console looks hot as well.
From all the info we know now, it seems the xbox 360 is going to be a great console. I wonder how things will turn out (:

About as much improvement as I expected from them. More of the same....but atleast it looks to be very comfortable. The black and white buttons are gone which is a great thing, those little shits piss me off so much!
I don't much like the colour, but of course being a prototype its not yet finalised. Looks decent.

That looks pretty faithful to the ourcolony shots minus white analogue sticks (which hopefully will be present in the final version)

I like it, as people have said it keeps everything the S did right and gets rid of everything it did wrong...looks a bit bigger than the S too...RETURN OF THE DUKE?!

Wireless is sweet too, i wasnt expecting it for the official pad seeing how much money nintendo raked in from it...but does that mean no rumble?

I guess it might not be the pad shipped with the console.

Since thats where the original Xbox had it's logo I'm going to guess that the circle shape at the top is indeed the actual Xbox 360 logo itself. Would make sense wouldnt it? Give me a few I'll put together a mock logo ...

Looks exactly like I'd expected it to, given all the button placement information quoted above. I was thinking they'd make it more like that black prototype as far as shape and color goes, though. Perhaps they felt it would make it look too much like DS2. I think this shiny ipod white only works on flat surfaces. On something as bulky and rounded it looks somehow fat and greasy. I tink the final color will be silvery anyways, I'm pretty sure CNN guy said the console will be in siver color with black details.

Good lord, are some of you kids blind? There are quite obviously letters in WHITE on those face buttons :lol then again, those pics DO suck. I like the design, though.

In these blured as hell pics, they looked like coloured circles. It was a good assumtion considering the system is called Xbox 360...

x360.jpg

Based on that circle on the controller ... could look something like one of these ... even though I put these together im not a big fan if the logo looks like this :/ it looks, feels, smells apple

If that's the real deal, I'm disappointed that the shoulder buttons are above the triggers rather than on the underside below the triggers. I tried a 3rd party xbox controller with shoulder buttons, and although it was nice to be able to use your index fingers for the black and white buttons on the shoulder, it felt weird to pull the triggers with your middle finger rather than your trigger finger. If you were to move your index finger down to the triggers as you normally use them, then you can't hit the shoulder buttons at all.

I was hoping they wouldn't just slap the shoulder buttons on above the triggers without considering this.

What if the Xbox 360 is white and glossy just like this controller?

My opinion on the controller: Don't like it. I like the rough texture on the Xbox controller, this one looks like it could slip out of my hands while playing a game.
