Xenon Controller revealed? (Apparently leaked pics inside)

Me likely for the most part.

The only thing I don't like is that it looks like they shrunk down the controller size some more. The original Xbox giant is way too big but the Controller S is just about right. I wish MS would use the controller S design, take out the black and white button, then add the two shoulder buttons with the triggers.

They've only cut off the unused bulk in the middle of the controller, that things defintely doesnt look smaller to hold than the S.

If you go to ourcolony.net and click on one of the links (humanclock.com) you will find a picture of the xbox 360.

it looks like it would feel quite similar to the controller-s except it will be more filled in to the bottom of your palm. (which should, in most cases make it more comfortable)

I don't see how it'll feel like the Duke... remember.. that was FAT. This one looks about the same size of the S but with more filled in handles.

Nah, the handles of this next-gen mock look ever less comfortable.

And I thought MS learned their lessen with the Duke.

Nah they didn;t learn their lesson and you're getting the same brick for a controller. Why bother posting?

Yeah, that leaked prototype was definitely real.

(I still remember all those people who swore it was a knockoff Taiwanese controller and that they had seen "hundreds" of "that exact controller" before...)

Not a fan, but it looks like an improvement. Let's hope it doesn't inherit those thick, mushy face buttons. Also, this thread reminds me how much I hate the DC controller and both Xbox controllers. Ergonomics do matter.

apparently the controller is still only a prototype and not the final...

though considering how they are already working with nicer plastic now i'd say it's close to final

and i'd probably assume those buttons are "painted on" and will be using the s-type controller buttons with the letter inside the plastic.

and stuff.

Xbox controller S is probably the best controller ever made. (up until now anyways)

Just the black/white buttons are in an awful awful spot.

DC for the time might have been ok but was pretty damn bad. You held it inverted, which would hurt your wrists... the buttons were cheap and the plastic was garbage! (blisters ahoy!) though the analog stick positioning was proper and the triggers was an awesome idea.

It all depends on the plastic. If the plastic sucks (which xbox 1st party pads have had awesome build quality so far) then the whole controller sucks. I'm fairly sure they can get the feel down though.

I love the DC controller, but hate the original Xbox controller. With the amount of time I've been putting into my S controller, I love it. I think it's really great, and is vastly better than the PS2/1 controllers. Those things feel too damn small in my hands.

This looks like everything I want from a controller. Analogue Stick in the main position, shoulder buttons AS WELL as Triggers, nicely laid out face button config. It's like the ideal version of a Dual Shock to me, I'm hoping that Sony make similar changes (not holding my breath). The only concern I have is that the handles seem a bit too large, other than that it looks like it'll be awesome. Funny thing is that I think the controller will sell me on Xbox 360 over anything, it seems nearly perfect to me.

its like you read my mind, i agree with everything you said 100%

I've done my best to gather up all the facts, speculation, etc., link it to previous reports, and form a coherent article from it all. Let me know if I'm missing anything / have incorrect info.

(Assuming this is true): I'm glad they got rid of the black and white buttons in favor of shoulder buttons. Those are really incoveniently positioned on the current Xbox controller. Also, the whole "ring of light" thing around the power button is neat.

I don't like the idea of having to buy batteries so that my freaking controller can work.

What if it's a rechargeable battery? There's also a plug at the bottom of the controller, so maybe you can connect it to the system if the battery is dead to recharge it? Also, that might act as a wired solution to people that don't want to worry about the battery recharge issue. Could be a good solution that I'm sure MS have thought about.

Is this meant to be some sort of message - Xenon controller displayed on PSP, regardless of if it's real or fake....... as if PSP is gonna 'own' Xenon ??? :lol

perfectly said! i absolutely agree! this is exactly what i was wanting to. the only thing i disagree with you on is the handles being to big. i think they really needed that, as the current xbox controller sucks in this regard. you need handles like that for your palms to rest on and give yourself control. i love it! that has always been a big complaint of mine.

this controller is exactly what i would have designed and what i've had in my mind as a "perfect controller" for a long time. i mean, wireless too! holy shit! :faints:

Gotta love that Junior Member logic

Did you ever find out if the new Xbox got a bump to 512 mb of ram? I did a search awhile ago and couldn't find what you had said(if anything).

Yeah, I forgot to mention wireless from the get go. Good job on that MS. As for the handles, they seem to big to me...I don't know how they'd feel until I try one myself. I said the same thing with the Type-S until I tried one, the handles on that were just right and this controllers handles don't seem all that much bigger. I'm sure it'll be fine, but the overall layout is just perfect and that's what matters the most IMO.

Sweet. If there's one thing MS is totally getting right, it's the controller (in every aspect). Funny too since they totally dropped the ball with the original Xbox (Duke was a monstrosity). I don't really agree with their micropayments plan, and no BC is kinda dissapointing, but the other than those quibbles I'm liking the direction that MS is taking the next gen Xbox. It also helps that they've got Q entertainment on board :)

This would make sense. I had been thinking about something like that for a while, where the standard controller would be wireless, but with the ability to recharge its battery by connecting it to the console. I hope to see this concept implemented on all of the next generation systems.

MSFT is well known to get in a market and get their feet wet, then make continual improvements where needed till they get exactly what the people want.

they messed up with their controller and didn't waste time getting a replacement. now with this new controller they definately took it all to the next level. fixing the bad (bl and wh buttons) and improved the feel (longer handles that angle outward instead of inward) and brought the next-gen to it (wireless).

i couldn't be more happy if this news is real. that is my dream controller right there. can't wait to try it.

So i dont suppose xbox 1 controllers will be backwards compatible if the standard controllers are wireless?

well... there is probably wired controllers too. Like that rumor where there is 2 controller ports like PS2 but you can have more players with wireless.

So it all depends if the xbox 2 controllers use the same ports and if the xbox will even allow handling them. I'd probably say it's unlikely they will use the same connection. They're using USB 1.1 ports on Xbox so i would say they're probably moving to USB 2 or maybe something more advanced.

Also if you look closely... there's no room for memory cards so it's probably quite true that the memory card ports will be on the main system itself this time instead of the controller. The live headset functions (jack/volume/mute) is probably built in the top there but you can't see it.

I think I've only replaced the batteries in my Wavebird once, maybe twice in the last two years. Even if this takes AA's, I can live with the occasional battery swap.

I hope thats not it, its just ugly. And the triggers are up way too high.

look at the controller S... i thought the same but then i looked at the back of my controller s and it's exactly the same positioning.

well luckily MS isnt stupid.

you heard of rechargeable batteries right, you know the kind in PSP, DS, GBASP, cell phones etc

but NO.. it's going to require AAA batteries! 4 of em!

the glossy milky white is ugly, and i dont like the d-pad. but it does look sleek, and they kept the triggers, good. implemented shoulder buttons, good.
rechargeable wireless? hot.

not AAA but AAAA!

rechargeable batteries are pretty much the norm nowadays. no worries. besides, most controller's batteries nowadays last over 100 hours. there's one i know that lasts 300 hours. charging will not be a problem.

You can't play holograms with that thing!

Thumbs-down...
