Always wanted to get into the Yazuka series, but pretty impossible to start from the beginning at this point right? No PS2 anymore.

how impossible is it to get a PS2? I played through Y1-4 this year and would seriously, seriously recommend anyone interested in the series do the same.

If you had a PS2 I would say it isn't hard at all! I started them in September and it's been a blast from start to finish. If you really want too though I would recommend starting with 4 and just watch the story recaps in the game, or the full story recaps online if you REALLY want to get deep into the story.
