Yakuza 0 coming to the WEST - "PS4 Console Exclusive"

While I'm happy we're getting O, I'm still a little bummed we never got Kenzan for PS3. I'd buy that in a heartbeat.

I still think Zero will see a Euro release. 5 is seeing a Euro release and that is on the PS3 and I can't see it doing all that well sales wise at this point in the year, at this point of the PS3's lifespan. If all that effort was put into localising 5, then I think 0 will get localised as well.

It'll be a pity if it doesn't, then again this IS Sega... I'll just import the game, not like I haven't already done that once this year with the Japanese version!

If it's technically Atlus publishing, then it might just not be for Sega to comment on and will leave it to the European publisher. Either way, we'll get it late at best I assume.

Everyone better buy it now no more excuses EG it came out too late or its digital only I don't care ! I just wanna see 6 come out in English I bought 5 and 0 before and will buy the English versions again no more excuses or I will find you and I will kill you O_O

If you're European and can read English (and are online), then this not getting a official release over here isn't the end of the world, what with buying games from foreign PSNs being such a doddle.

Hype levels: Through the fucking roof.

I mean, I guess I could track down all the previous gen releases and play through them in order, but that's a bit of a time and money commitment, don't you think? :P

You need to play the first just to experience how much of a kind, macho badass Kiryu is. You can get a disc only copy on Amazon right now for $5.

this is something that i personally did this fall so i'm recommending it under the same circumstances. video games are a time and money commitment, period, and if youre wondering where the best place to start Yakuza is, its with the first game.

I'd love to, though the cheapest copy on Amazon.ca is $25, and I'd rather have a case and cover if I'm buying a game. :P

Well yes, but there are degrees of commitment, you know? Some are greater than others, and a single game verses a series is quite a bit of difference, wouldn't you agree? Thanks for the advice, though. I guess I'll skip it if it's not a great place to start out.

if you don't buy Yakuza 5 you ain't a fan, full stop

also apologies to zelda/uncharted/persona etc fans for getting their games bumped from 2016 GOTY like this...it's a good cause though gents

So is Yakuza 0 a good starting point for the series? I want to recommend the series to people but it's kinda hard when they either have to watch long recap videos or start from the PS2 games.

The short answer is yes, very much so.

Source: I'm like 80 hours through into JP version.

actually lets rate the best places to start Yakuza

1, 4, 2, 0, 5, 3

IMO

1 is the best place to start because everything afterwards builds on what was established in the first game. sort of goes without saying and its pretty cheap in EU and in NA.

4 is more convenient if you dont have a PS2 and also introduces a lot of new characters. its not as good a place to start as 1, but it could be worse.

2 is the best game in the series and is sort of an isolated story anyway. there are lots of references to events and characters from the first game, but in terms of the series as a whole it doesnt have too much consequence. still this is IMO a better place to start than 3 or 5 or 0, but its expensive in NA, less so in EU.

0 is a prequel, but again it builds on what you know about these characters and youll like it more if youve already met them. plus its a year away, you shouldnt be without yakuza for that long.

i have to confess i havent played 5 but since the cast comes largely from 4 and 1 you shouldnt really start with it. you should play 5, but only after you understand whats going on - there is no recap feature in y5.

3 is, imo, the worst game in the series, suffering from pacing problems and since it relies heavily on the events of first game for dramatic purposes it not only would give you a sour (imo) impression of the series' potential but it would mean less to you than if you saved it til after AT LEAST y1.

Sure it is. 0 is a prequel to the entire series so there should be no story complications.

The plot line is literally 0 to 5, with Kenzan, Ishin, and Dead Souls being spin off games. Each game is well-contained enough that you don't NEED to play the others, but it does help.

Yes and yes, you can start with it! Quite honestly, you could start with any of them. For the most part they are like episodes in the characters' lives. Zero would be ranked high on my list of ones to start with.

Start from 3. Yakuza 1 is being remade to bring it up to PS3 graphics standards and it's likely Yakuza 2 will receive the same treatment.

So go 3>4>5, then 0>1>2

and then 6

That's a really awful random order lol.
