Cutscenes CAN be skipped, there's an option so that pressing Start skips them.
...and yeah DS diff. is a pain in the ass and drove my bonkers, but I did it in the end.
Yes, that's like that in all Yakuza games (at least on PS3).
BUT the ingame-cutscenes with voice acting CAN'T be skipped. The ingame-cutscenes w/o voice acting can at least be fast-forwarded. In Yakuza 3+4 I enjoyed the substories. In this game I'm almost always skipping through them, if possible, because the game is that awful.
I will just grind the stupid Dead Souls mode a bit. Yakuza 3+4 can be beaten on highest difficulty even w/o leveling up at the start or buying guns etc. I really hate it, when a game is so awfully designed that you have to grind. And the QTEs take the cake. In Dead Souls mode they are so short, that my reaction time is not good enough most of the time
What I really don't get is: they created Binary Domain. BD has somewhat okay controls. So wtf happened? And if AT LEAST the stupid character wouldn't shoot in the direction he is facing and instead would shoot in the direction the camera is facing, then the game wouldn't be that bad.
I just killed the zombies in front of the casino with a partner, who was switched to COVER ME mode. I killed the big monster last, so of course the stupid game forced me inside the casino, which resulted in the drop getting lost. Not that much of a problem. I go outside again. What does my stupid partner do? RUNS INTO A ZOMBIE HORDE and gets himself killed. Why did this happen? because the FUCKING STUPID PIECE OF SHIT GAME switched him automatically to "Do whatever you like" instead of keeping MY SETTING.
Oh and all the zombies respawned of course, so even switching him to my previous setting is a nightmare, because within 1 second I'm surrounded by zombies. Great fucking job Sega. How hard is it to save that setting in memory? You couldn't afford one fucking byte?
IIRC, if your partner's health is low/critical they won't obey ur commands.
@jimi- which part of the game was that? My partners for the most part survived much of my treks in the game.
My partner was at full health (health gets restored inside) and even when entering he was near full health. I was at 1-3, so almost right at the start. It was my first partner. Although I'm playing on Dead Souls Mode. So this stupid behaviour gets him killed REALLY fast.
Just had the "joy" to play the first chase sequence.
I mean was Sega insane, when they allowed this crap to get released? Seriously. Is this a beta?
Chase Sequences were never really good in the previous Yakuzas. But they weren't completely broken. The camera is going completely crazy in this one. There are even ZOMBIES, which are a pain on Dead Souls mode anyway. You shoot with R1. Which is also plain broken. At least in my case R1 is seriously delayed. I press R1 and it takes around 1 FULL SECOND for him to fire a shot. Which means most of the time, you need to press it in advance to have at least a chance to hit a zombie. And on Dead Souls those zombies rush you and if you get unlucky, you will get stomped on the ground for seconds, which means your target gets way ahead. This combined with the camera that goes berserk every few seconds and the bad framerate makes it almost unplayable.
At least some grinding paid off. I'm now at 1-4 and it's not that bad anymore. I won't get killed within 2-3 seconds. Still the controls are a pain in the ass. Did some sidequest with an old man. had to protect him. And the game really does its best to troll you. I was nearly at the target location and I got rushed by maybe 30 zombies. Without upgraded shotgun, this wouldn't have been beatable at all, especially because the dumbfuck weapon controls get stuck sometimes. I mean I face away from the zombies, I then turn the camera half-way and press the aim button (and would like to aim the last bit manually to save time). Sometimes this works somewhat, but sometimes he will just point at the direction and the left stick won't move the camera at all. It will get stuck there, so I need to let go off aim button and try again. Maybe it's some sort of lockon and a zombie is behind 2 houses, so obviously he should lock on there. Idk. It's plain broken.
Worse yet, if you are followed by a horde of zombies, you need to point the stick to the direction of the zombies to aim there, which means you will face the zombies. Which also means you will possibly fire one shot at most, then they will reach you. It's really a pain to play. And they even added artificial borders, which means you will be restricted to a tiny area just because fuck you (yes, I know Yakuza 3+4 did this somewhat as well, but those games had working controls and in those games you were blocked by crowds not by virtual borders).
What I also "love" is that the game knows that I played Yakuza 3 + 4 and even got platinum on those. BUT IT STILL FUCKING SHOWS ME THE CONTROLS FOR POOL and it's not possible to skip them directly, you have to fast forward all the text. How difficult would it have been to implement START to freaking SKIP control tutorials. OMG.
If anyone considers buying this piece of crap (even for 10pounds) - STAY AWAY. Buy Binary Domain instead.
Well, completed the game on Dead Souls mode yesterday and did the endless subterranea till level 51 today.
What a horrible experience.
Endless subterranea at level 40+ is almost impossible to play, because of the horrible framerate. It's around 10-15 fps I guess - and during those levels, the framerate is that low all the time - I guess that's because the game spawns 1000 zombies somewhere and the engine can't handle it. The framerate is bad in the normal game already, but endless subterranea is even worse. And that whole part of the game isn't well designed either. It seems the levels are randomly generated, which is fine, but some rooms have zombies that will spawn around 4-8 times. AND when the zombies crawl into the room, they are invincible. Which means you need to wait around 1-2 minutes in total just to kill them all and then continue. Because if you don't, they will rush after you and attack you from behind.
If anyone tries to get the trophy, take at least 4 batteries with you. ps3trophies lists 1-2 batteries at most, which is total bullcrap. It also says that you should "rush"/run to the exit, which is quite impossible on the later levels (level 20+). I had to play 5 levels in total darkness because of too few batteries. And if you are leveled up and got the best armor, you need 2-3 healing items only. ps3trophies proposes 6-8, which is absolute overkill unless you are awful at playing the game. I used 2 in total, also health items are sometimes found within the levels - batteries are not. Just use kiryu, use his super-sniper (take at least 8 ammo packs with you, additionally a normal sniper with 2-3 ammo packs for taking down molotov zombies, brutes etc.).
I got used to the broken camera and broken controls somewhat, but it just isn't fun at all. I also completed all substories. The only one that I found Yakuza-like was
the zombie hostess substory
, which was quite funny, but that one consisted of cutscenes only. I mean really. You activate the substory, get around 5 scenes and huge loading times inbetween and then you get "substory" completed. Is that a joke?
Almost all the other substories are really boring. It's go to place X, kill zombies. Sometimes the substory will end then, sometimes you need to go to place Y afterwards and... kill more zombies.
And the hostess stuff - that I really enjoyed in Yakuza 4 - is somewhat broken as well. I mean for one club, you need to go through the zombie zone for around 2 minutes. Then meet the hostess. And for the 2 dates and the final mission, you need to exit the zombie zone (!) and reenter it. Which means wasting 4 minutes everytime just to get a phone call. And strangely e-mails are received while being in the zombie zone. It doesn't even make sense.
Also: having the best modded weapons makes Dead Souls Mode really easy. Still all the finisher QTEs took me around 20 tries. I mean seriously. I beat them hammering one button and hoping that the game will use that button for the QTE. They are not beatable any other way. Maybe my LED-screen causes some lag, i don't know. I tried to press the right button, it's not possible. I even tried to push the same button as soon as the QTE pops up. I failed also all the time. Hammering was the only way for me.
I mean everything that is good in this game is actually copied over from Yakuza 4. Everything else is bad. Even most of the music is bad. Some tracks got really on my nerves. They sound like bees trying to sting you. The only 2 tracks that I really liked were played during the credits. My final rating 6/10 and that's even generous.
Does anyone know a good way to finish the slot machine challenge where you have to get a net profit of 777 tokens? Dunno how the fuck to do it. Apart from the occasional minor 13 token payout, I can't seem to get any tokens.
He was prob. just messing with him...and in all seriousness it's Goro, so whatever reaction he has makes 100% perfect sense. ...and I loved that side mission, heck Majima's scenario is the best in the entire game, his dialog is just perfect.
Just got to Kiryu's part in Dead Souls mode. What a load of fucking cheap bullshit. You can't do shit because the zombies instantly knock you down and crowd you, preventing you from taking any fucking action. Also, they can interrupt your moves, but you can't do the same to them. And fuck the zombies that do nothing but shoulder charge you over and over again.
I've been talking about this game elsewhere and a kind soul has offered me there old review copy of this. I've just bought Yakuza 4 so will play that before trying this. I heard about Y5 getting localised. Is there any release date for that yet or is it just 2015 at the moment.

IIRC Summer 2015.
Hope you like DS, but keep in mind that when a lot of explosions are going on, framerate dips heavily lol.
I still enjoyed it and Majima's scenario was the best.

Lol. Looking forward to it. Just watching the recaps on Y4 before I start a new game. As for DS from what I gather are that the controls are a bit of a pain in the ass but besides that it seems quality.
