I'm away from my PS3, so I haven't had the chance. It's my next game, depending on whether or not I want to finish The Witcher.
No one plays Yakuza games.
You shut your whore mouth! My next game is going to be a Yakuza 2 replay, Dead Souls gave me that itch again.

Hah same here, only it makes me want to replay Yakuza 4 and try to get 1 or 2 trophies if possible.
Just started Goda's and holy fuck these zombies are in fucking riot mode now.

Well on the one hand, this game plays very differently to the previous ones, so if the next game goes back to the original formula...or gives hints to it, it may sell more.

Here's hoping. Has Sega put out any PR post-release? I get the feeling that the numbers are probably down from Y4, and those numbers were probably somewhat down from Y3.

if I'm not mistaken, there was a rumor that most decisions for localizing a SoJ game is that Europe won't release it if the US doesn't as well, due to Project Altered Beast's poor performance.

The Yakuza numbers are shockingly low. I mean I knew what the series was selling, but seeing these 550k like that really puts things into perspective. DS sold like a low tier handheld game, and mainline titles do barely any better.
Can't be mad at them for reusing assets like nobody else.

the yakuza team has a knack for turning around games quickly and on the cheap. they don't have to sell millions to break even.
i REALLY hope we get a full featured yakuza 5 here, or else i will force myself to struggle through it in japanese if i have to.

What do you mean full featured? Cuz they can cut out that shitty hostess club and the game'd still be awesome.
Is that 550k worldwide, or just the West? If it's just the West, it's alright. I honestly don't see it doing much better than that despite the series' cult following, and this one is somewhat a spin-off.
So hopefully it's worth their while to keep releasing these games and I'll keep supporting them. I've got all the English PS3 games, but the only game in the Yakuza series I've played is Kenzan. >_>

Beat the game yesterday. I agree with everyone that this is probably the worst Yakuza game. I only played through it for the story. Never do this again Sega. Should've given us Kenzan.
And man, those shots of Kenzan in the ending destroyed me. =(

The last time Dead Souls charted in Japan it was sitting at 400k on the dot. So sub 150k for everywhere else. That's not really impressive but it's better then Binary Domain numbers.

I'd agree it's the weakest, but on lower difficulties it's fun as a run n' gun shooter.
Besides you get to play as Majima Goro, no way a game that has him playable be a bad game.
Today's the last work day of the week for me so this weekend I'll aim to complete Goda's substories and his chapter if possible.

I finsihed the game on normal yesterday. Now I'll start a premium adventure game and finish the Akiyama substories, subterrania missions, hostesses and a few other things that I missed. I thought I'd get to play as him a bit more and advanced the story.

I enjoyed the hostess club stuff. Better dating sim than Persona 3 at least!
It's certainly quicker, if nothing else (it's not better).

YEAh I disliked them but only a few gave you little reaction time, and in the harder difficulties it's almost spilt second. I actually had to press the PS3 button to pause the gameduring qtes to land them XD.
Still I overall liked the game and if I ever replay it, it'd be on Normal difficulty.
To say it's my least fav. would be lieing; I kinda like the run and gun mechanic of the game, reminds me of Metal Slug. Plus YOU PLAY AS MAJIMA GORO, HOW CAN ANY GAME WHERE HE IS PLAYABLE IN SUCK?!
....No, just no. The hostess club is the worst part of the Yakuza games, waste of in-game money and time.
...and in what way is it better? You just pick a response, feed the bitches, waste your money on them, and then maybe kill zombies just to get laid.
I mean that is no way special or outstanding...

The hostess thing is long winded, a 3 stop minimum assuming you got maximum game
I do like that you can take them out in battle, and they have all skills available to pick from.

Forgot I finished it, lol.
Started on hard, but it was easy. Hard part was qte shooting, like 0.6sec for a random button press. Fucking annoying. Fun but very repetitive, but maybe it was because I like fighting much more then shooting. But the thing where you had to go to the same areas 10000 times shooting the same enemies that stand in the same place was the dullest thing that ever happened in Yakuza game. Painful. After a while it was just long walk to casino or a shop while avoiding enemies as shooting was just waste of time. Best part was Goda - badass. I finished his all substories just because it's fucking Goda with trenchcoat and chaingun arm.
But overall it made me want to replay yakuza3&4.

It's still boring and lame, and really anything you can do WITH them you can do WITHOUT them, so it isn't a big difference.

Just wondering, where do you go to pick up the DLC items/weapons?
And, if you play on easy, do you unlock Extra Hard when you beat the game? Or does it have to be Normal?

Does Easy unlock Dead Souls mode at least? Then you can go Easy -> Dead Souls -> Extra Hard? The only reason I ask is because I already started an easy game hoping to breeze through it... I would rather avoid replay the first chapter if I can. lol

DS' trophy guide states starting on Normal to unlock Extra Hard, as such I assume Easy doesn't unlock it.
Just get the Yakuza training gear from Hasegawa and beat it Normal, it's not that hard, hard wasn't that difficult when I played.

Ah, I guess I'll do that. Losing 5 hours of progress sucks hard though. I should have known, but it just completely skipped my mind that playing on Easy would screw you. :/

dead souls is a new difficulty, you can't new game + into it.
you will have a tough time if you go from easy to dead souls, you will have to form strategies that aren't necessary at all on easy

Well, I'm just not sure if it's worth giving up the hours I've already put into the game just to restart is thing. If it's at least possible to go into Dead Souls, then at least I don't have to worry about it until I get to that point.
They really should warn you up front that Easy mode will gimp you if you want to play the game again. As it stands, I guess I have to take the trophy guide's word for it and restart... but now I just don't want to play the game any more.

Just beat the game on Easy now, the ending will be worth it...and Majima too!
If it unlocks Extra Hard for you then bonus. Really this is the kind of game one could play once a year...at least I would ^_^;

Bosses for the most part are awfully designed.
WAY too many QTEs.
Sucky QTEs on the last boss
The awful slowdown throughout the game
The only somewhat "good" part is the kiryu part and the last part minus all the awfully designed bosses. And the credits song.
If I wasn't such a trophy whore, I would have stopped playing and I also can't stand having a YAKUZA game not being on 100%. I don't want to know how awful Dead Souls mode is (I played on normal).

My understanding is that Dead Souls is half about gimmicking the game at some points - so using the DLC items to get a crap load of money to get bad ass weapons as early as possible.I just played through Yakuza Dead Souls.

I started that way on Dead Souls mode. Could afford sniper rifle right at the start.
BUT who the hell thought unskippable cutscenes were a good idea? Most substories feature voice acting (which is good), but aren't skippable because of that. Why.
And the friendly AI is completely braindead. I'm talking about worse-than-Sheva-level.
Dead Souls Mode is really crazy. Zombies will overrun you all the time. Sega needs to create a REALLY great Yakuza 5 to win me back. Why did I buy this crappy game
