Yakuza KIWAMI |OT| Translator's Note: "KIWAMI" means "EXTREME"

How do you do the action move things when the enemy is glowing a certain colour? So if he's glowing pink I switch to Rush mode, but then what? I completely forgot what I was told during the tutorial and I've missed so many of them since.

End of Chapter 3:
That Shimano fight is boring as FUCK!

You have to unlock them back again from the Soul Wheel abilities, since Kiryu lost all of his abilities after Chapter 1. The abilities are right next to the first ability you can unlock by lower path.

Oh right. I've been standing next to enemies pressing every single button there is. Fucking idiot.

Thanks!

That's why people should play Zero first. It adds a lot to the characters.

Agreed. I think it's fine to start with Kiwami if you already own it, I guess, but Zero fixes so many issues and adds so much great stuff to the story of the original that by doing Zero > Kiwami you clearly get the best experience.

Like, coming from Zero
and having liked Nishiki a lot there despite thinking he was a lame character originally, I still thought his added scenes would do nothing for nothing for me in Kiwami... But nope, I feel pretty terrible for him and his descent feels natural and genuinely tragic, it's great.

How do I buy weapons in the city? Ch4
I was able to get a sword from the loan shark sidestory to let me fight Officer Majima, but if I hadn't done that, I have no idea how I would have been able to trigger the fight

At chapter 4 right now. Haha wow at these implanted movesets from bosses in other games. Not that there's really a problem with it for me, it's just funny when I realize it.

There's a particular person from which you can purchase info. about a business that's a front for another business... and it's not about food! :)

It's in the adult video store, you have to know what title to ask for. The original info. guy is right around Pink Street.

I just met Goromi-chan. God, I love this game hahaha

Exactly. It makes the story and characters of Kiwami much more relatable.

How do you trigger that?

I got the email, but
whenever i go to Shine, freaking Rina shows up.
I didn't do anything special.
First time I went there was Rina and then the second time (I went back immediately) Goromi showed up
. Maybe you just have to rank up the Majima Everywhere first? I currently have a D rank.

Do you get a special message or anything when you enter Shine and Goromi is there? I've tried multiple times after I got the text message and it's always just Rina.

Would the sensor react outside of Shine?

Hmm. I have an E rank BUT I did get that phone call telling me that
Majima built a structure and is hiding in plain sight
.

Do you remember where that is? Maybe I have to do that before going into the club.

I'm rank C, and still nothing unfortunately.... i hope it's not a glitch

MMM. Looks like they really built on the systems from 0, can't wait to dive in.

how does it change the style like that?

You have to look for
random oversized traffic cones across the city.
Some will have him inside and others won't.

While Zero was partially too much of a walk in the park even on Hard, I had to dial down Kiwami to Normal after the first few chapters. One really shouldn't play this before 0, but kind of look at it as part 2 of the latter. Especially since despite the harder difficulty, the game expects you to understand all the styles by yourself.

I'm going to bed for now but when I wake up tomorrow, the first thing I'm doing is booting up Yakuza 0 to do some dancing in the club then continuing on with Kiwami.

Oh shit, thanks.

Maxed all the skill trees except for the dragon grid. Now I've fallen into the beetle battle arcade game. Had a surprise opponent as well.

Maybe its just me but bosses and sub bosses feel like tanks on hard. In Y0 they didn't have nearly the same health as in this one. Makes fights a chore.

Not sure then, I got it well after receiving the cell phone message in chapter 5 or 6 when I was walking past for something else and I got the 'kiryu-chan' chime when walking past and went in. Could be the cell phone message comes before it's triggerable?

Bob the Clown who is located outside of the front arch entry of Karmurocho

Not really though there's a lot implied. For that and the reason of his personality differences from Zero to Kiwami
Majima was known as the Mad Dog of Shimano before the events in the games and in Zero lost an eye and was tortured for a year, then was forced to serve under the Omi Alliance in order to get back into Tojo Clan and was under surveillance all the time. He was being punished and was forced to act that way. Nishitani recognizes in Majima someone who is much like him, wild, erratic and who lives for the thrill of the next fight whether they win or lose it as long as it's a good fight. By the end of the game he dedicates himself to living life in the way Nishitani does and knows that's who he is and he couldn't live a regular civilian life or drag a civilian into his life without putting them in danger.

He knows Kiryu is the Dragon of Dojima and what Kiryu did during Zero, even meets him for the first time in thep ost credits scene. In the beginning of Zero they added a little to show that no matter how Majima goads Kiryu Kiryu stands by his principles which Majima respects. While it's not spelled out, Majima is a guy who lives for the thrill of the fight and measures himself by the best fighters, has a personal grudge against the Dojima family, is fascinated by Yakuza with higher ideals, they both share that they'd been out of the Tojo Clan and brought back in, etc, it's not surprising he's obsessed with the Dragon of Dojima. Kiryu already had a reputation as a strong fighter and they shared a mutual history in Zero, and in the beginning of Kiwami stands up to Majima in front of his men despite Majima being higher ranked.

I mean I'd love for something to fill in the intervening time between the games,
like the interactive comic was supposed to but doesn't, however after Zero it's not surprising that Majima would be following Kiryu closely.

In other words, it's because he's a Kiryu fanboy.

I can accept that.

Shimano
is actually even harder in this version of the game, if such a thing is possible. He now regens as well as powers up, long boss battle is long. And no "hurt" animation, he just absorbs everything you throw at him.

Nah, I don't think there was anything special like that. I just went there, said that I wanted to go in
the club
and Goromi just showed up. it didn't even give me the option to choose between
Rina
and
random girl
, it went straight to Goromi.

Yeah, those are the big
traffic cones
in the city. He is hiding in the one that is shaking.

Hmmm... have you also found him in the
bar
and in the
traffic cone
? I had found him in those places before trying the
Shine Club.

Yeah I just Goromi and it's indeed just random. Nothing indicated I'd get her over other hostesses and thr sensor didn't react outside of Shine.

What a sub story though lmao,
can't believe this is canonically the first semi heart to heart conversations they have in the series haha.

Lmao.

But the callbacks to Zero were really nice.

This is my second Yakuza game and I'm already loving it just after one hour. It's a bit sad that I need to skip 6 to avoid spoilers, wait for 2 to release and play it, and then play 6. This release order is a little confusing.

Hes easy to read but the fight became such a bore because it took so long. Think im just going to turn the difficulty down if it effects health.

I might have forgotten it was possible in 0 (once you learned them), but I didn't think you could just change styles using the d-pad. I guess it being instant opposed to a slight delay is my mistake.
Yeah, in Zero there is a noticeable delay when you change the styles, but in Kiwami there are certain upgrades that let you change them instantly in certain situation.
So for anyone interested, there are five upgrades that let you quickly change between styles after doing certain things.
  • After throwing a weapon
  • After evading
  • After performing a finishing blow
  • After a taunt
  • And after getting hit (without being knocked down)
These are all part of Tech upgrade sphere btw.
Does Kiwami not include arcade games? Worst Yakuza confirmed.
To my knowledge the original Yakuza didn't even have any arcade mini game outside of the crane one. So, that sexy bug game that is in Kiwami is actually a new addition to what there was in Yakuza 1. But yeah, if you are talking about arcade games from Zero, then Kiwami doesn't have them.

A lot of those come back in Y6 tho. And you'll also get Puyo Puyo Tetris and Virtua Fighter 5!

So I've just finished the
funeral
and it's been amazing so far, but I also spotted someone selling Yakuza 0 on Amazon for ~$40 after shipping.

It arrives next week... now to see if I can hold off from playing Kiwami. It's so good!

The Pocket Circuit sidestory continues in Kiwami?

Oh wow.

And the Bacchus bar was that opened by Y0 Bacchus, right? He mentions opening a bar I think, but the bartender just says that it's named after some god

Re:Style switching, you can also change your style as you're getting up off the ground without the animation lock.

I think only some are prerendered
Yeah, some of the ones that have the cinematic subtitles are rendered in-engine. A few jumped out to me as obviously in-engine, the most obvious being the cutscene with Yuya outside of Stardust.

yes i did everything of that, you can't level up your rank if you don't by the way

You can always pick up a PS2 and Y2, PS2s are usually around $15-$20 usd. Or emulate on your pc.
Yakuza 2 still looks great

Kiwami 2 will ideally come out in 2018, but it might not be until 2019.

I feel your pain though, the release order is very inconvenient for new players.
